Op flashpoint 9800 pro issues

Recommended Posts

i'm not sure if this is a common problem but after maybe 15 minutes gameplay my system locks hard and a restart is necessary.

This did not happen with my old ti-4200 so I assume it's something to do with the radeon...

do you guys have any tips to improve stability?

By posting this in troubleshooting?  wink_o.gif

No seriously, the radeon card produces alot of heat. So make sure that there is proper cooling mounted on the card. Oh and good air flow inside the case. You could even try running ofp with the case partly open, just to see if things improve.

sorry if this is the wrong thread crazy_o.gif

the card is not overclocked and the case is already open... should I try re-seating the card heatsink and fan?

Moving to troubleshooting.

In the meantime post a comprehensive list of your system specs smile_o.gif

hmm... system specs... okay

AMD Athlon 3000XP

MSI K7N2G n-force 2

1024mb DDR 2700 (11,2,2,2)

Sapphire Radeon 9800 pro (fastwrites disabled)

2 x Seagate barracuda 120gb Sata in raid 0

Windows XP

The system ran op flashpoint fine with my old ge-force ti-4200 so i'm assuming the current problems are radeon related

I have heard the stock cooler on these sapphire 9800 pro's are very underwhelming performers so I may invest in something a little better

Sorry If I'm hijaking this thread but I'm also having issues with a new 9800pro so I've gone back to my Geforce2MX untill I can fix it. A bit depressing as when it's working Flashpoint is so much nicer to play at maximum possible res, almost twice what I get out of my GF2MX.

As of now the two cards are on separate macines, the GF2MX on my 2.4ghzP4 running 2000profSP4 and the 9800pro on my buddies 2.8ghzP4 running XPprofSP1 and with CAT4.1drivers (have also tried 3.7).

SPECS.jpg

sorry, no specs for the older machine

The problem is that on the XP macine I have an addon limit (a small one @that with only all BAS stuff and Frenchpoint stuff so far) and if I add anything more Flashpoint refuses to load and will come up with this error:

ERROR.jpg

But no matter what resolution/bitdepth I run it @ or what preference setting I change It will still come up with the same error untill I remove

said addons and go back to the limit that I found by installing addons individually after a fresh install of GOTY up to 1.96 (note: problem persists with "all" other versions of GOTY).

FDFmod,CSLA2 will come up with the same error and all I have tried so far is the -nomap switch on the .exe

As it is my friends machine I am reluctant to rip his card out and test it on my 2000prof platform or to install 2000 prof on his unpartitioned HD.

I have been reluctant to get a 9800pro or XT for myself because of this.

Sorry again If I have hijacked this thread.

Any thoughts?

Guys sorry to tell you this:

OFP doesn't like Ati. It works far more stable on any GeForce GPU's.

Ati cards win benchmarks but GeForce works better.

I have a Radeon 9800 pro 128MB and have no problems with OFP.

System-

Asus P4c800e

P4 2.6c

2x512 ram

Radeon 9800pro (Sapphire)

Did you uninstall the previous video card drivers before installing the new card?

I also have a 9800 Pro 128Mb, and all I can say is that it runs picture-perfect.

So what Kroky says can't be right.

I'm running with the unofficial Omega drivers (www.omegacorner.com), should you wish to try them.

Running a 9800 Pro with no problemes.

Just make sure you add "-nomap" to your OFP starting link.

Oky I got a radeon 9700 pro, for maximum FPS what speed should I haev my AGP setting at? Should I enable fast write or not? Also I can only seem to set AA & AF to x2 or higher, is there anyway to disable it?

Not a major problem, but with a low amount of memory recording in game with fraps is a real hassle.

Sounds promising.

I'm hoping 2000prof could solve this whole issue with my mates machine

and mine when I'm convinced that I won't be throwing away 200quid (approx) on a card that won't let me play my favourite game.

What brand is your friend's 9800?

Slightly off track but if you haven't bought your 9800 pro yet best price I've seen so far is here 9800pro 256mb ram Å199.99 inc vat.

That is bloody cheap! the cheapest I've found here in NZ is Å273

Powercolour, but I thought they were all the same :/

I think I'll wait a couple more months to get a new card

although at some point I'm just going to get sick of

playing Flashpoint @ 1024x768.

Well in theory they're all based on the same chipset but some brands have better reputations than others, powercooler have problems with certain motherboards, I'd suggest their troubleshooting forums as well as googling smile_o.gif

Yeah I'd call it worryingly cheap, it's only Å6 + vat more than I paid for a regular 9800 from Ebuyer, note on that site they don't say who made the GFX card, may have a relevance, maybe it simply is a genuine bargain but personally I'd want to know more about it, that's why I tend to deal solely with Ebuyer as they have customer reviews and such like smile_o.gif

Bought son a Sapphire 9800 pro 128mb card to go into his:

Asrock P4AL-800 mb(ali chipset),Pentium4 2.6 800 bus cpu,512 Corsair pc2700 ram.80 & 40 gig hdd,cdrw and dvdrom

He played with it for a day or two and was experiencing the steady lockups, most always within a 3d event (game/video benchmark) every 15 minutes or so it would lockup,we tried everything from aperature, fast writes, memory timings, old and new drivers, you name it we tried it,I suspected the video card may be bad, form reading newegg reviews a few got bad cards

I put the card in my computer:

Asrock P4VT8 mb (via chipset),Pentium 4 2.8 533 bus cpu,2 x 512mb ddr pc2700,80 & 60 gig hdd,cdrw

It locked up at first 3dmark,I disabled fast writes and it worked ok for a few hours,we then swapped motherboards and he reformatted at the same time

STILL same problems !! After a few days he got totally frustrated and relinquished the card.

The games that he was running were things like counterstrike and some webstuff,he didnt even install  hardly any games.

I have had the card a few days now in my computer (still with his mb) and it did lock up at first but with fast writes off and at agp4x it has been reliable and gets same benchmarks as it did with 8x and fast writes.I have played Ofp for upto hour at a time,Bf1942 for several hours at a time and Morrowind for hours if not upto a day at a time,I am not experiencing any more lockups for at least 2 whole days

Things are VERY smooth, the card is a screamer, gets 5400 3dMark03 (my same setup with Fx5600 Ultra gets 3200)

Go figure ,the only thing I can think is my generic pc2700 ddr ram maybe? Or the 800mhz bus cpu is changing some timings somewheres, the fact that I have a fan that cools my case?we are still working on it

Right now he has my good reliable fx5600ultra (i have a other fx5600 that is not so reliable)

I got my 9800 pro from www.komplett.co.uk for Å135

they are not doing the offer any more though and it did not come with any bundled software... but it still rules blues.gif

EDIT: it seems adding -nomap at the start did the trick

what exactly does this do?

Uses different technique for memory management, if you search you should find an official word from Suma about it smile_o.gif

Oh I paid 219$ us dollars just a few weeks ago from Newegg.com

http://www.newegg.com/app....&depa=0

I also noticed they have some refurbs for cheaper (most certainly was tested)

Think I saw a ATI 256mb refurb for about that same money.

They status is still the same,I am not experiencing any unusual behavior altho my son has.Its running well.I used a laser pointer thermometer and the card is the hottest part in my computer (of course I can only laser my cpu heatsink,if I could laser the cpu that prolly would be)

The chips I think are too hot and because I have case fans must be why it is reliable in mine and not my son.As I said earlier we even swapped mb's.
