Thud_and_Blunder 0 Posted March 1, 2004 Obviously designed to coincide with BAS Week(!), Flight International carries the following announcement: "The US Air Force is to unveil a low-risk development strategy for its planned new medium-lift helicopter, to enable it to field a replacement combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) capability as early as possible. To be announced on 4 March, the USAF's acquisition stratey for the new Personnel Recovery Vehicle (PRV) calls for a contractor to deliver between 3 and 5 test machines and up to 132 production aircraft to replace the Special Operations Command's ageing fleet of around 105 Sikorsky HH60G Pave Hawks. The air force plans to issue a solicitation for the requirement later this year, with the contest expected to involve aircraft such as the Sikorsky S92, Lockheed Martin/Agusta Westland US101 and NH Industries NH90..." The article goes on to say that the initial "Block 0" aircraft will have the same weapon system capabilities as the HH60Gs, with testing of up to 2 PRVs in "Block 10" configuration shortly afterwards. killagee 0 Posted March 3, 2004 Of course what they should really do is buy NH-90's, the best tactical helicopter in the world! ... ( holds hands over face to ward off the mud that is gonna be slung my way with this post!)
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted March 3, 2004 NH-90 and S-92 are VERY good choppers. The S92 is can be changed into a lighter version of the pavelow. Adding larger side-doors and a few M134's should do to make for a great CSAR chopper.
killagee 0 Posted March 3, 2004 The NH-90's Hot and High flight characteristics are its main strongpoints over the S-92. Also it costs nearly 1/2 as much in running costs! I want one... But yeah, the S-92 is a good chopper. Hope the Aussies buy the NH-90 tho for the Air9000 competition. Then NZ might too...
