Balschoiw 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Hi ! Just got an idea. As there are some really fine people here why not start a "hostel" like program to make it cheaper for OFP forum members to visit other countries ? Of course chemistry is a point here but I wouldn´t have a problem to host the guys I like In fact it could be really funny and lively. What do you think ? GoOB 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Doesn't sound to bad, after my car trip last summer I am dying to see the rest of Europe in more detail. It could be alot of fun and a good way to see the world! Forum member A hosts forum member B in Switzerland, forum member B then hosts forum member A in his/her home country. Surely most of the people on these boards seem like nice people, I wouldn't mind at all good company is good company regardless if they are strangers or not EDIT: Could this be changed to the "travelling tips" thread? It would be nice to have a thread where you can exchange info about travelling and give people tips on nice places to visit whilst in your country.
ran 0 Posted February 28, 2004 That would be great I can host 1 person at a time and if told in advance host maybe two persons. The prob is that I live quite a few km's away from Paris (but with TGV ticket at 70€ it's not that far) I can also offer my services as guide depending on the period of the year and this would require a little participation .. for metro, bus, exhibition and museum enterance enterances tickets and fees and lunches (the ones taken in restaurants since as a good host, meals in my home will be free ) I have quite a few skills, notions and programs remaining from a past carreer in Paris if anybody's interested .... and i can work on a few visits on demand
cozza 24 Posted February 28, 2004 I diffently host some people at my joint. Only proplem is I live in the middle of Nowhere. In the bush. Lots of trees. Would be cool to have a OFP hostel.
denoir 0 Posted February 28, 2004 It's a nice idea, although I'm afraid my little apartment is way too small to take in more people.  Besides I would after that be known as “Denoir the choir-boy†as my girlfriend would cut off my balls if I did something like that. She’s sitting here besides me now and instructed me to write it. “Choir boy†was her expression. And she doesn’t seem to be to happy with me writing this. Ouch. She just hit me. Ok, I’m being abused here, have to go.
Harnu 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Hell, I'd sleep on a couch... actually I guess you'd probably be there if someone came there denior  Ran, how do you spell the name of your city? I can't remember, and google isn't helping much (Chatt...something?)
Balschoiw 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Ok I forgot to mention where I live  It´s bavaria, 50 minutes from munich, 3 hours to prague. I have a house near the alps at the austrian border also. Braunau may ring a bell. That´s where Adolf was born. Quite nice region here. Edit: Sightseeing in my region: Landshut (historical games every 4 years) Munich Salzburg Alps Berchtesgaden Passau (great town with 3 rivers uniting) Regensburg (historical and lively throughout summer) Burghausen (largest fortress in europe) Austria in general (great food , wine and people) We also have great nightlife here but we can also relax at the fireplace behind my house with open view on woods  Accomodations: My own 2 houses. Fell free to take your girlfriend or whatever (placebo) with you. My girlfriend will be happy to have some female companion to oppose OFP talks ;)
Harnu 0 Posted February 28, 2004 And my hometown is, Hometown   Mapquest It borders Chicago, so in thirty minutes one way and you're nearing downtown Chicago, thirty in the other, and you are in farm country  Don't think my parents would really approve of allowing a foregnier we've never met to stay in our house, but theres many cheapo-hotels around that will let you spend a few hours to sleep. Pipski 0 Posted February 28, 2004 This is a fab idea, but just to be a party-pooper for a second: I don't think it would be wise for anyone <18 (certainly <16) to arrange to go and stay with people they don't know personally, nor would it be very wise for any older peeps to take in minors - just in case they or a demented relative start making wild accusations, not that I think you're all `strange' (you know what I mean). With that caveat it's a spiffing idea. Being temporarily without a residence of my own (hopefully only for another few weeks) I can't put people up right now but I am happy to offer advice on what to see in the UK etc. etc. to anyone that wants. Just send me a message or post here.

GoOB 0 Posted February 28, 2004 When you come to Sweden be sure to visit these lovely places: Karlstad, especially "Färjestad" and the central parts of town the lovliest city in all of Sweden (that I have been to anyways) Sola' skiner alltid över Karlsta'! Stockholm, take a canoe ride out into the archipelago and enjoy the sights there. Or just walk along riverside and look at all the people (be sure to have someone with you whilst touring Stockholm, it can get kind of boring without company) A beach near Mälaren, the perfect lake. Be sure not to swim in it too much though Lapplandsfjällen, simply breathtaking. Walking around the majestic landscape that is northern Sweden, during the summer you have a good chance of meeting the native population. Wich are always happy to tell you about their culture and their surroundings. Whilst there be sure to; Bring home some water from the springs and "rivers" that dot the landscape. Try to avoid making fires and littering, many times you can see traces of other tourists/hikers whilst hiking up there. And seeing traces of scociety back home is not the number one reason to come to Lappland. Enjoy the calm it gives you and enjoy the awesome sights.
Harnu 0 Posted February 28, 2004 If I go anywhere it's either Texas or France France is the only country that would cost under $600 for a round trip ticket, and if I go to Texas to mess with Tex, I can stop in Oklahoma and beat up Hit_Sqd_Maximus

Chicago eh? Best food I had in chicago was at a place called Devil Dogs, it was a squalid little dive tucked under the "L" (i think red line) in lincoln park. I walk inside, and see the entire back wall lined with autographed photos of celebrities and musicians (even had 3 or 4 autographed guitars!) saying how much they loved the place. Best $2 hot dog outside of NYC!
hellfish6 7 Posted March 2, 2004 Just noticed this thread. Um... I live in Chicago as well, so you get the choice of me and Harnu. Chicago, if you don't know, is the best city in America. If you come, I know a bunch of cool bars, I can get in free to a lot of the museums (and probably get you in free as well) and I'll make your life complete with a weekday Cubs game with hot dogs and beer. There's a really cool military museum around here if you wanna go to that, as well. I am planning to move soon (I keep saying that...) to Madison, Wisconsin, though. So I can't promise anything. Munk 0 Posted March 2, 2004 I'll be on a school trip to southern England If you come anywhere near Portsmouth we have 'the ultimate water front experience' (Gunwharf Queys) but we'll, its shit A loads crappy shops full of shite. The best thing there is burger king Oh, and there's an HMV there. Thats about as exciting as it gets unless your into the navy and old boats etc. @ran My mum owns a house near Bernay, thats around Chatellerault somewhere isn't it?
