Military truck research...

Recommended Posts

Can you people help me with some research I am doing?

Which do you think is the best (including value for money) range of Military Trucks available for a rapid reaction force?

The German MAN trucks...

The US FMTV and HEMMT trucks?

Unimogs?

Any site, PDF's and Video links would be appreciated.

I am especially concerned with European Technology...

Anyone in service actualy used any of these?

What kind of enviroments would this rapid reaction force operate in? Urban, off-road, or anything that could possibly be thrown at the force?

What would they be rapidly reacting too?

And what role would these trucks play in the rapid reaction role?

FMTV for rapid reaction? Shiiiiiiit, my Stryker goes faster then an FMTV! tounge_o.gif Not to mention has an assload more armor. Besides, i waouldn't want to react in an FMTV, thats like walking in a battlefield with a bedsheet on for armor. biggrin_o.gif

Hmm, you drive a Stryker? Sounds interesting. Although, I think he meant cargo trucks to be used to carry troops, fuel, and supplies for a rapid force and not a frontline APC.

Thanks guys. Anyone have links to info on good European Trucks like MAN, Unimog, Mowag etc (I have the official sites but they lack detail)

Or better still, all you active duty europeans and scandinavians, which type do you prefer?

Tatra, Czech manufacturer, has won Dakar rallys in the past:

Kamaz Russian Truck company That just won this years Dakar:

Kamaz

The Dakar Rally is what separates the real off road trucks from the wannabe's.

As far as my vote, it sits firmly on Unimogs.  Got a couple of '58 and '62 model ones, and there's not much on new trucks that isn't in those trucks.  Suspension is amazing and on many sites you'll see them pulling Hummers out of mud pits.

I have modeled it with OFP in mind, but mostly for my kicks, using the textures off our trucks, to be used by Resistance.

Copy and paste the german truck URL into this site. And then set it to translate German to English... it's not perfect... but there's no need to spechen zie deutch if you're reading it through this site.
