kevbaz 0 Posted January 20, 2004 Ive put a machine together for a m8, and he has a copy of ofp goty, now im gettin all sorts of errors whilst installing/patching. First off here his system specs Win XP Pro Athlon 2700xp 1.5GB pc3200 ram Hercules 9800Pro 128mb Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 120gb hdd 7200rpm Now the first attempt at an install went smooth, all 3 cd's went in no probs, then i tried to patch it with the 1.91 GOTY patch, but i got errors with missions and the o.pbo, i cant recall the exact errors but it said the patch might be corrupted so try to redownload, so i did just that from a different mirror, this time it said ther was a problem with o.pbo and that i would have to reinstall ofp, so i completely removed ofp, via the uninstall programs then i went and deleted the left over folders, and begun to reinstall again... This time it got almost to the end of cd one and barked a fresh error at me, something along the lines of "Crc doesnt match", at this point i went to avons faq and read up on the goty errors, tried what was suggested there, like clean out temp files, virus scan and a defrag, so i done all 3 and tried to install again, but it got to roughly the same point, 3 restarts and reinstall/uninstalls later it actually installs all three cd's, so i grab yet annother goty 1.91 patch from yet annother mirror and yet again it said theres a problem with o.pbo, i think sod it and just try to run the game and it then tells me that the wrong cd is in, i try all 3 cds and it just keeps tellign me to insert cd1. By this stage its getting close to midnight, and i couldnt be arsed to mess with it much more. I had installed the latest drivers for the 9800, sound card and patched winxp via windows update, i also tried copying the contents of the cd's to the hard drive and installing from there but i got the crc doesnt match error. Does anyone have any ideas of what i could try next? the only thing i can think of is a clean install of windows and start from scratch.
BraTTy 0 Posted January 21, 2004 First check for any ! exclamations in system properties Make sure DMA is enabled on that hard drive You said you put the system together, check cables but Its possible the 7200 rpm hard drive creates alot of heat (is it in a basket or small space?) I suspect heat on that hdd, because that sounds about right
lee_h._oswald 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Try installing the game with a different CD-/DVD-Rom/Writer. MfG Lee
TakanoFukada 0 Posted January 21, 2004 ... and he has a copy of ofp goty, now im gettin all sorts of errors whilst installing/patching. i can't help but noticed that you typed "a copy of ofp goty"... so i have to ask : Is it original? Cos if it ain't... getting those patching problems are common.
kevbaz 0 Posted January 21, 2004 yes its an origional COPY Ill pick up a few more case fans, the hdd its self isnt really in a tight space, nothing directly above or below it, all cables are fine.

Gadger 0 Posted January 21, 2004 I've known people not to be able to patch OFP due to faulty RAM.
kevbaz 0 Posted January 21, 2004 i havent tried the ASPI layer fix, it could make sense as nero was installed. Also the ram might also be an issue as it had a few teetheing problems at the start. all other programs and games install fine btw. im gonna do a clean install of windows anyway hopefully that will help. JdB 151 Posted January 22, 2004 I've known people not to be able to patch OFP due to faulty RAM. I would have to agree on that, also the errormessage Kevbaz gave also points to the RAM
somebloke 0 Posted January 23, 2004 I'm having a problem upgrading from 1.85 to 1.90 or 1.91, it just stops at o.pbo and i have to ctrl alt delete it to get rid of it. No error messages, just stops responding. The first time i did upgrade it worked fine but i had to re-install after a reformat. Anyone else have this problem?
