Akira 0 Posted January 21, 2004 L'Humanité article concerning the man (in french)(L'huma is a french communist paper, sorry, i'm trying to find other more neutral sources ) Same story but by the Nouvel Observateur (source: AP news) finally, an english one Think maybe your consulate should perhaps be dealing with that. Happened 4 days ago, so perhaps we will hear more soon. Originally I thought he had just made an off-the-cuff remark about putting a bomb in the toilet (which while being crude if refering to his...ummm..."product"...would have seemed an over-reaction by the stewardess). But upon reading further that he: Quote[/b] ] raised his fist in the air as the plane was landing and shouted, "Oh shit, I guess the bomb I planted in the toilet didn't go off". I now think he was just as stupid if not even more stupid than then previously discussed British moron.
FSPilot 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Maybe if we made the big yellow warning signs bigger they'd read not to joke about bombs on airplanes.
denoir 0 Posted January 21, 2004 On the contrary, it's because the warning signs and mostly unnecessary security measures that these things happen. For instance last week, I was on a Swiss Air flight to Rome. The guy before me in the security check line got his nail clipper confiscated. Ten minutes later on the plane we get metal forks and knifes... You really get the urge to explain to them just how stupid their security measures are. He noticed that they were using rather sharp steak knifes, so he decided to test the whole security thing. He swiped the knife and carried it on to the plane. Then alerted the TSA and wrote an article about it I believe. Now the restaurants can only use plastic knifes and forks. Metal silverware? You flyin' first class or somethin'? scousejedi 0 Posted January 21, 2004 Anyway, when she finally gets back to the UK to renew her US visa what are her chances. No matter how silly the joke was procudures have to be followed - FBI called in etc. Could you imagine a Hijack and the police officer going - "I thought she was joking and she had white skin" IIRC there was a suicide bomb in Israel the other day that was a woman who got into a police station by pretending to be ill. The message to all security people is EVERYONE is guilty.

The FAA and TSA only have jurisdiction if you're flying into, out of, over, or within the USA. Either way, I see how being warned not to do something encourages some people to do it. But I guess if they'd of just been warned not to do something, and they do it, they'd deserve it. They probably speed up when they see a yellow light too. Lt_Damage 0 Posted January 21, 2004 She wouldn't of been treated this way in Australia, but hey we still have a sense of humour
Frisbee 0 Posted January 22, 2004 Hm,the running gag where a driver was stopped by the police. They standardly ask the same question, even though they know just as well as you that you were speeding. Some guy tried the joke out for real. 'Sir,do you know why we stopped you?' 'Oh,surely not because of that corpse in my trunk?' said the driver who kept a positive outlook even with the prospect of a hefty fine. The guy got guns pointed at him, they opened the trunk, and added another charge 'offending/wasting the time of police officers' imho, this is the same,it didn't cause a panic (as far as i know) The only crime was needlessly drawing the attention of security, and thereby wasting time and money. This isn't some attack on national security It's been how long since sep11? With the childrape/murder scandals with dutroux here the jokes where going around carefully the first year, and flowed pretty freely after,a little bit of relativation is good for ya (if she DID cause a panic i take it back,i'm not too well informed after one week without internet )
