Consigliere 0 Posted January 4, 2004 Really nice Hornet you got there Tiger Is it me or does it look lop-sided? Like it has a missing wheel or something. Good job on the weathering and the asphalt

soul_assassin 1750 Posted January 4, 2004 i recently got back into modeling after 2 years break and not just back but with intentions into superdetailing. So far ive worked on 2 Tamiya kits and i have to say i dont think assembly doesnt get more pleasant than that. Ive completed the T72M1 (one of the finest Tamiya models, veeeery detailed) + a verlinden T72 update set, all washes and drybrussing complete as well as some extras such as scratch built camo nets, crew stowage. Also made some Verlinden ammo crates. So all that is waiting till i finish my exams (2.5 weeks) when i can finnaly start on my first diorama. It will be about the first chechen war. What i was surprised and dissapointed about was the complete and utter lack of modern russian infantry units The other kit is the M1A2 Abrams with mineplough, also very detailed but is still waiting on superdetailing and weathering and i have no clue for a diorama idea since i did it in NATO camo. So my advice would be Tamiya, expencive but weeell worth it. And hell i cant wait to get an airbrush handpainting tank wheels is making me crazy. Ill upload some pics when diorama is done. Warin 0 Posted January 4, 2004 I am having a fetish for WW II armour right now, and the Tamiya kits I have are excellent. I am reworking a standard M4 Sherman into a Canadian Sherman used in Italy. I have some good pictures but the work is going slow. I will post some pics when I get closer to done. I usually buy Tamiya because I have just never had a dud from them. If I can afford it, I am going to pick up one of their 1/6th scale WWII tanks with the R/C rig!
ran 0 Posted January 4, 2004 i've also seen a 1/35 decals set for tanks enguaged in chechnya war , by MIG i think and i found this , by Zvezda : i'm not familliar of the brand , the picture looks nice ,but i'd like to see what's in the box you may check Shanghai dragon too , i've spotted some VDV and Naval Infantry soldiers
Warin 0 Posted January 4, 2004 You wouldnt know a good on-line tutorial for painting figures would you, ran? I just suck at painting them and would lvoe to find some good tips on making them look human Most of my armour ends up 'buttoned up' so I dont have to display them with figures! ran 0 Posted January 4, 2004 edit : i've found the box-art of thesemodern russian troops , i'll try to get the references when i'll have the time but here you go : (those are cheap plastic figure of relatively good quality you can find under the DML/Shanghai Dragon/Dragon/Italeri brands) -edit-: sorry Warin , but all my skills came with the years and with some flawed models finding a basic painting tutorial shouldn't be that hard , i'll look into it asap
Warin 0 Posted January 4, 2004 I'll google it when I get home. I am not quite that lazy to shift it off on someone else! I was just hoping someone I know does good work had a secret ;)

blackdog~ 0 Posted January 4, 2004 Hehe, I have both versions of those tanker uniforms here on my desk that are in those pictures. The black is for winter and the olive colored one is for summer (used in the 80's during invasion of afghanistan)

hellfish6 7 Posted January 4, 2004 I used to build (and play with) 1/72 scale tanks and troops, 1/700 scale ships and 1/285 scale micro armor. In all honesty, OFP, Harpoon and Combat Mission have taken over my hobby of building and blowing things up. Does anyone know of any good sites for any kits above? Or recommend brands should I feel like blowing some money in the near future?
Consigliere 0 Posted January 4, 2004 As I said earlier on, Italeri, Academy, Hasegawa and if you have the funds, Tamiya all have good models
soul_assassin 1750 Posted January 5, 2004 @ran thanx S#@t load ! I will look into these kits asap. Some of them have the exact 1994-95 look i need (invasion of Grozny->theme of the diorama) @denoir what r u doing playing OFP then? go be a mechanic or something else "manly" by your standards
pajama 0 Posted January 6, 2004 ...Hhhmm now that I look at it...1/72 is very small I think i'll go for the 1/48 mid range which is not so bad of a size and price wise also BTW any thoughts on buying kits on Ebay? Don'nt you just hate it when some of them live in Asia and charge $8 for sea (1-2 months) shipping and $12 for air

Don'nt you just hate it when some of them live in Asia and charge $8 for sea (1-2 months) shipping and $12 for air i would think the best bet would be a 1:35 kit, nice balance between detail and size and Tamiya dont do 1:48 anyway. But when you do invest alot im plastic models (~average $30-40 for a 1:35) make sure you do it correctly and not just the weekend modeler way. Otherwise it will be a waste of money and more importently waste of fun as you won't be proud of it. Make sure you read up on everything like: -washes -drybrushing -aplication of dirt etc. I would advise to visit here: Armorama - Great resource site, and has good forums. Great step by step guide I would also recomend considering buying any of the Verlinden Publication books, they are absolutely great with great illustrations and explanations as to techniques. If anyone here has done washes with oil paints (most likely Burnt Sienna and Umber) can you please PM me i have a few questions i cant seem to find answers to.
