I quite like the Creative - MuVo 2 range, they are pretty small and very tough but do not have as much hard disk space as the ipod.

iPod w/ docking station.

The thing about the battery only lasting 18 months is not true. Read about it here and about lithium batteries in general here.

But whatever your decision is you should wait after Jan. 6th. There are rumoured to come new mini-iPods

Peronally I got a 20 gb for christmas, don't have nearly that much music, but I use it as a portable HD too. And the design is just wow_o.gif even the box it comes in wow_o.gif

not too expensive tounge_o.gif that one is 499 $, maybe you should take advantage of the free custom engraving?

Anyway you better get used to iTunes if you buy one wink_o.gif

Big + with Creative is can also function as flash memory.  AFAIK iPod cannot. Also, is cheaper and doesn't make you look like a poser. Unless you NEED 3,000 songs on your portable and want to pay through the arse for it.

I'd take a look at the archos product line. The older jukebox recorder 20 should be quite cheap now.

The iPod works as a portable HD. And if you have a digital camera you can buy a card reader that you plugin and transfer all the pics the the iPods HD so you can take more pics smile_o.gif

must remember to read the whole thread before posting

hm, i didnt know about that. well, i bet that i´ll be one of the guys that´s gonna have one with a broken battery anyways. must be my bad apple karma.

i just dont like apple stuff. in fact i used to! but i think apple has just too much eyecandy on it- sure they look cool. but i cant get into a good workflow with my mac at work. i´m faster with the pc. that´s why i dumped my mac as an email and quick conference system... tounge_o.gif

my brother in law´s ibook almost burnt, when i plugged the phone cable in the integrated modem, once.

i´ll stick with my agenda:

"form follows function"

on apple stuff it seems to be just the opposite way

Haven't heard much complaining about it,and imho Iriver has a great soundquality, sadly i can't compare with the Ipod.

It's iPod and iBook tounge_o.gif

Anyway if my battery needs a replacement after 18 moths I'll be really pissed off. My dad should have bought it in Norway, I'm pretty sure the warranty is longer here.

It wouldn't bother me for a reasonable price, like any other rechargeable battery. But over US$200?! The nerve!! mad_o.gif
