good work on the A-10 - its gattling gun absolutely wastes tanks

The A10 was one of my very first things I wanted to fix and make realistic. Obviously it's still the wrong color (should be gray) but overall the plane is way better than it was. Better handling, better 30mm, better bombs, realistic loadout, faster, 30mm gun slows you down as it recoils, flare scripting, quieter interior (you can hear yourself think again!), quieter exterior, etc. The only few things I would like to do is add a jammer or spoofer script to it, maybe an angle-of-attack stall script instead of just a basic warning, and eventually figure out some way to make the damn thing accelerate faster. Too bad we can't turn the cannon up to the correct 3600rpm without lagging the game to completely hell. I had it like that just for shits and giggles once and it was hilariously awesome.

I'm fixing my patcher to fix those couple bugs. Unfortunately I now have to sit through my installer program compiling the installer and compressing the files yet again, which takes up to about 20 minutes. Followed by another 30 mins to upload to one mirror, and another 30 to upload to another mirror. I'm also compiling the final 2.01 Full install, which should take about an hour (yikes!) to compile and about as long to upload (double yikes!).

I'm uploading a new version of 2.01 Patcher to The Citadel. It won't be finished for another 30 mins so I'm hitting the sack because it's 4:30am here and I'm clearly crazy to be up this late. I apologize for the inconvenience. Anyone that downloaded the previous 2.01 can download this one when it's done and run it to bring you up to speed.

One problem I noticed is with the MK-19 automatic grenade launcher.   It takes WAAAAY too long to reload.  I've fired these in real life and they can be reloaded as quickly as any belt fed machine gun unless you get a jam which then requires the grenade round to be removed very delicately.

The real life ones also sound different and don't have that wierd metallic sound that this Humvee mounted Mk19 addon has when you fire it.

Also I don't like how it takes like 4 or 5 bullets to kill someone.  In real life usually it only takes one or two rounds from an M16A2 or M4 to drop someone.

I haven't heard too many complaints about the stopping power of the M4's in Iraq.

With the larger .308 caliber rounds of the M60 and M240 machine guns, it should normally only take one round to stop an opponent.

All of this of coarse depends on where the opponent is hit, but nevertheless I think it's crazy to have some Russian soldier shooting at me after I hit him 4 times.

The Mk-19 reload time was derived from not just one, but a poll of close to 2 dozen US Marines and a number of highly trained US Army soldiers who haven't just fallen off of the 5T yesterday. I'll be sticking with the magazine reload time on the Mk19 since it simulates having to pull a whole new jumbo box mag out of the hummer, mount it, and then load up the belt.

As for the Mk19 sound. The sound comes directly from a very high quality video of a Mk19 being fired. The same can be said about a number of sounds in the pack which were taken directly from the real deal. If you would like to review the source material, simply out of your own curiosity not because I particularlly need your approval, then follow the link below...

The 5.56 and 5.45 (M16 and AK74 rounds respectively) were tuned based on a large background of research into ballistic wound data. Info was found on fragmentation, yaw, velocity, temporary cavity, tearing, and permanent cavity. That info was then put into perspective by talking to a large amount of current soldiers and people who have used the rounds against actual humans. The 7.62 was not adjusted at all as I happen to like the 7.62 damage as a baseline. So it will still kill you in 1 or 2 hits. It may take 3 hits with the AK47 considering it has a shorter cartridge.

With the advent of bleeding you will also find that after 2 or so hits by the small caliber bullets that you're bleeding rather profusely and in danger of bleeding out which will happen in a minute or two if you dont get attention. In this way the small caliber bullets are even more realistic because a good part of their design was to be a "wounding" bullet with good shooting characteristics. Because ultimately 2 guys carrying a wounded guy off the battlefield is 3 guys not shooting at you.

IMPORTANT: All of the bullets, even the newer weaker small caliber rounds, will kill you in 1 hit to the head or face.

I watched the video.  I wouldn't regard that as high quality sound at all as the video and audio is heavily compressed and suffers from alot of degradation to the audio (I'm an audio engineer by the way).  If you notice the sound changes dramatically depending on the position of the camera (and the mics presumably mounted on the camera).   The mics apparently are way too sensitive to the sound of the bolt.  That was a big problem with the BIS sounds that Uziyahu got for the .50 cal machine gun.  On the video listen to the increased bass frequencies when the camera is a little farther away.  That is a little closer to the actual sound.  Keep in mind that recording realistic weapon sounds is incredibly difficult.   Usually dedicated weapons sounds recordings rely on specialized microphones and equipment along with different acoustic enviornments (real or artificial).

But at any rate, if you used one of the other sounds of the MK19 firing from further away I think you'd have a much more realistic sound.

As far as the stuff on wounds and all that... well I can argue that until I'm blue in the face (ballistics and wound patterns famous for starting epic length flame wars on weapons and military forums) so I won't try and convince you about the 5.56mm characteristics.

The bleeding at least I think is realistic and I really like that you incorporated that.   Maybe I just have to let the weapons grow on me.   smile_o.gif

The rest of the stuff I like alot so far.... especially the A10.  smile_o.gif

Nice work!

About your special FX plans.. What about ECP? Isnt it a good idea to let the ECP fix all the FX for you?

If you chooses to make your own FX I hope you are going to use the ECP_EventHandlers.

Are there any CTI missions on Gaia or with the new Vehicles and Soldiers yet? If yes, where can I get them?

Hmm... I have downloaded the WGCTI-Map Everon and it doesn't seem to work with the new units (Map in MP-Folder).

Is it the new units or is it me?

Links not workign anymore, my transfer has failed at 80% when the file went.

Being on a 56k I am a bit peed off especially as first attempt came in at 168mb (dont ask how, but it got corrupted big time and kept grabbing data on the download)

Any mirrors around that are working? (even the USMC Gaia page is unavailable)

I just tried it again and got the following error message.

Extracting to "C:\\WINDOWS\\TEMP\\"\par

Use Path: no Overlay Files: yes\par

Extracting wg_2.01_addpak_patcher.exe\par

Error: invalid compressed data to inflate}

As soon as I can get a valid file I will post a mirror on @war.

Give me about an hour and I will post the original file on @war. Granted it is on Fileplanet but you should have less problems. I will be posting version 2.0 and I will post the patch as soon as I get a valid file.

Never mind I deleted the zip from my hd. They are moving their site to a new host so that may be causing the problems.

If you ended up with corrupt downloads it may have been when I deleted the bad patch and reuploaded the good patch. I'm really sorry about that, especially for you 56K folks. Here are the final working links....

Well yes, if you're a sound engineer I would say it's not "high quality" but as far as OFP sounds are concerned I think it's a good high quality sample because it's not tainted by too many compression artifacts or other sounds. Ultimately though I think it's the best I could find. And speaking of sounds.... I need to thank the very talented and helpful Zulu [uSMC] for being my resident sound engineer and doing all my custom sounds lately. I'm in the process of always tweaking and including new sounds in the pack that are more accurate. Miles, if you find any sounds you would like to see included in the pack please send them along. Feel free to make some since it seems you're qualified, also. I appreciate the help.

You'll get used to the new rounds. If nothing else in MP when you get shot you might actually life longer than a split second and be able to have a chance of getting patched up. In a lot of WG missions this actually keeps you from having to endure a 3 or 4 minute trek back from spawn.
