Max faces and points for a weapon

Ok now, I have a 30cal., and the first res has around 956 points and 998 faces. I was wondering, whats the maximum

20k sniper rifle? wth? you modeled every atom of it? tounge_o.gif

don't think the OFP engine has a coded limit, but there are ofcourse 'unwritten' limits, like noone wants to wait for 10 minutes to load it or even have OFP crash because of an absuredly high poly count wink_o.gif

Can you chek one of the weapons from BIS in Oxi, and see how many polis they use as an average?

There is no general limit, limit is only your hardware.

No use in looking at weapons that had to be made pretty fast and for systems from tree years ago.

If you want details you get lots of polys... BAS weapons for example also are pretty poly rich but with good and many lods that is no problem and we ( RHS ) will go the same way with our weapons.

Also by comparison, the lowest LOD for the BIS M2A2 is about 5000 polys.

don't you mean 50 or 500 polys cause I don't think you can have a 5000 poly shadow

oops i meant sniper the rifles only 5000 polys

and i think the poly limit for the shadow is about 500 polys but i could be wrong

I like nice looking stuff too,i'm just worried tho, figure even 50 soldiers each carrying a 5000 face rifle could hurt video performance.

Egads tho really we are making planes and 5500 is about the average for small plane

Just how would you get that many faces in a rifle? Modelling all the vent holes and such?

A bunch of good lods and you got no probs, OFP switches first lods pretty fast anyway depending on the action on screen and the power of your hardware...

Plus its a different thing if you make a weapon that will be seen very often on the battlefield with many polys or a weapon which is maybe used by a few units on the map only.

5000 is really a bit too high for a weapon, i rather think of a limit near 2000.

yeah the 5000 polys is only on the view pilot lod i think so that only player sees it the maxim external lod is 2500 smile_o.gif

yeah i cant really remember if its the gunner view or pilot view though, ill check tonight
