shadow 6 Posted November 3, 2003 I think The AK47/74/103 are the most used infantry weapons, the G3A3 second I think. But the weapon that has changed the infantry's tactics the most this century has to be the A-bomb and chemical-warfare (IMO) I think the infantry weapon of the next century might be the OICW or something similar. definately a handheld weapon with electronics. USSoldier11B 0 Posted November 3, 2003 1. Kalashnikov type weaponry. This is the most prolifically produced weapon in the world. I think most soldiers will and have agreed with me here. 2. AR/Stoner type action. (i.e. M-16, M-4.....etc..etc..) 3. FN-FAL type weapons. 4. Garand type weapons. The Garand action is one of the safest ever invented. (i.e. M-1 Garand, M-14, M1A, M-21/25, Mini-14/30) 5. The Fragmentation Hand Grenade 6. Colt 1911 Pistol 7. Mauser Rifles 8. Moisin Nagant Rifles 9. Luger Pistol 10. M-2 Machine Gun The first four are in order of what I believe to be in order of abundance The last 6 are in no particular order but have seen substantial use in the last century. Take for instance the M-2. The U.S. military used to bolt one of those to practically everything until electricly powered rotary Vulcan type cannons became more prevalent for aircraft and the development of the M-60. I beleive Enfield rifles, HK 9X series rifles (could have surpassed the FAL but just didn't get as many contracts due to ease of manufacture, a great injustice because it's a better weapon series), and the Uzi deserve some recognition too. Edit: Ack!!! Huge oversight! The Mg-42. This revolutionized machine gun design and practically every modern MG has inherited something from it's design. The bane of the allied infantryman in WWII. Also worthy of mention.

NurEinMensch 0 Posted November 3, 2003 I don't really understand the question. What are we talking about? The weapon that is most innovative? Or the weapon that had the most influence on warfare? Or are we talking about the weapon that is/was most widespread? Are we talking about classes of weapons or a specific model?
shadow 6 Posted November 3, 2003 Good question. I have no idea
Grizzlie 0 Posted November 3, 2003 If we r talking about "revolution", i would vote on Madsen light MG. It was the first MG which could be carried and used by one soldier. And it made war as we know now - i mean squad groupped around MG. And, i dunno if i can name it weapon, cammo uniform. Remember that in the beginning of I WW french army were using blue and red uniforms and were massacred by germen wearing khaki uniforms.

Guest DKM-jaguar Posted November 4, 2003 This century? G36C, Steyr or Glock18 (the one made mostly of porcelain) Becuase each one is the sign of things to come in weapon making, all with large advances and using a lot of ne technology (wether succesfully or not, they can be learned from) and all make great steps in weapon design. I guess if the G36C does not fall into this then it would be the H+K PDW or such like.. I guess a weapon like the G3 could be considered, as it spawned a huge diversity of weapons. (My favourite is the MSG90, but that's not the point of the topic) The last century: AK47 by far. It's the perfect weapon for most buyers.
