Why not set it in ww2?

Recommended Posts

ok i may get flamed here but i was realy hopeing that FP2 would do a real large scal war like world war 2. i know there is alot of addons around the world currently for ww2 but it is nothing compared to what you guys a BI could do.

it just sadens me that ww2 missed out on it. maybe fp3 if u make it.

Rember WW2 the greatist of all wars if there can be said thing about war.

Personally, WW2 has been way over done and is really starting to get boring.  The European campaign will probably be pretty big.  If anything I think it should be closer to modern day, not farther.  If it was based in WW2 there probably wouldn't be guided weapons, or many missiles(other than like Panzerfaust/Panzerchreck(sp?), Bazooka, etc).  Atleast in the seventies there would be many (atleast semi-)modern systems.

edit: lol, like your title Frenchman. biggrin_o.gif

edit2: glad I'm not the only one counting what place I'm in post count wise tounge_o.gif

I reckon the seventies is a good choice for OFP2, seeing as how if they made it in the nineties or even "now" you could settle most battles by calling in the choppers and watching through your binos while they gut the enemy.

WW2 games leave me cold now, seeing as they all tend to cover one particular period of the war (D-Day), and almost all tend to be US-centric. If I want to play a WW2 game, I'd rather play in a theatre that hasn't been done to death, as my own country. I mean, there's only so many times you can run up a beach getting shot to bits with Garand. I'd much rather go charging around Arnhem or Nijmagen with my Sten gun, or fight at Monte Casino alongside the Gurkhas. And with WW2 games, there's always that nagging little feeling that it's not right to be having fun in one of the worst wars there's ever been sad_o.gif

That is a pretty stupid question considering they will have by now started making the theatres and units. Ask another company

two word. user-made addons (for WW2 related fun)

in last interview with Czech gaming magazine Doupe, BIS stated that the reason Vietnam was chosen is becuase it was the last major conflict that involved semi-modern(?) weapons. meaning that there were no precision guided bombs and infantry and its vehicles were still the forerunner of the war.

Actually, I think Marfy could do better than BIS in the WWII category and that's all we need ;)

I think its a very good question, the BIS engine would be perfect for WW2 game, the "dramatic" feel of the original islands always reminded me more of the fourtys than the 80s and i would enjoy if bis would make some kind of WW2 expantion or something, WW2 has been done to death but im 100% sure that the lads at bis would still surprise us with the first interesting WW2 game considering most of of the others are just basic quake.

But then we wouldnt get modern tanks, helos and equipment so i think they made a good choise with the 70s smile_o.gif .

If the addon compatability works like they said it would, it doesn't matter, we can just play with our WW2 addons from OFP1 biggrin_o.gif

what i wana know is why there hasnt been a single Korean War game. People would love it, the fighting really did have a range of everything. But i guess thats just wishful thinking.
