Leopards CAN suvive serb ambushes...

The Nordic Knight back in 1993

Operation "Beaten Hooligan"

Facts

Quote[/b] ]·         The use of force in self-defense only

The Danes acted as they had been trained for peacekeeping operations. The Danish unit gave clear warnings to the attacking Serbs, also by demonstratively illuminating their own white-painted Leopard tanks. Only after the Serb position continued firing against NORBAT positions did the Danish unit shoot several dozen shells precisely at the attacking Serbian forces. In order to act with transparency and restraint, the Danish unit neither asked for close air support nor did it react in revenge.

·         Impartiality

Prior to the battle, the Danes had proven their impartiality by providing humanitarian help and protection both to Muslims in Tuzla and to the Serbs by protecting Serbian school children with armored transportation and by building a road out of reach of Muslim snipers.

·         Consent

After the shoot-out, the Danish commander immediately communicated with the Serb side to clarify that the Serb unit had broken its commitment not to attack UNPROFOR. The Serb commander accepted this, and although the massive Danish reaction reportedly led to many Serb casualties, the battle did not escalate further, nor did the Serbs seek revenge.

I don't care what anyone says, main battle tanks will not be replaced by light armoured vehicles anytime soon. A light armoured vehicle simply can't survive in a battle with MBTs. And the thought of scraping MBTs just because they are difficult to transport is absurd. The answer to this problem isn't to simply replace MBTs, but instead we need to find a new way to transport tanks more rapidly. The obvious answer to me is to build large WIG craft (Wing In Ground-effect). This is simply a ship hull with small stub wings and engines attached. They get airbourne by skimming across the ocean on a cusion of air created by the ground effect of flying low to the water. We could build a transport aircraft capable of transporting 5-10 M1A1s at speeds of 300-400 MPH and ranges of 5000 miles. The Russians already did it 2 decades ago. It was called the Caspain Sea Monster. Go look it up on an internet search engine.

Quote[/b] ]They were pretty much developed for the exact same missions Canada currently finds itself assigned to.

Thing is, we are actually (and more often lately) sent into situations that are not peacekeeping missions; we're just sent into peacekeeping missions more often overall, and so I doubt that the last word has been had on tanks.

The problem is that these can not operate in heavy sea or with too heavy a cargo - no way sending them across the Atlantic or Pacific loaded full of tanks.

The version on www.operationnorthstar.com is now updated with the fix for the drive sprocket alpha problem. . . could mirroring news sites update their files?

And yeah. . . personally, I think the Uparmoured C2 is one of the most killer looking tanks in the world. . . those MEXAS Heavy packs look cool as hell.

look here:

Photos of C2, Uparmoured

it still doesnt look rite tho.......is the sprocket suposed to have a big untextured black circle in the middle? also if you look further (hard to explain) but deeper into the track, inner sprocket in the rear? you can still see that big ugly black square texture lurking around back in there. there still seems to be some black textures that seem out of place in back of the track. thanx biggrin_o.gif

After the big ugly black square that was so ugly is gone, what you see now is called 'low-poly modelling'. . . lol

Essentially. . . (as everyone knows) the more points I use, the slower your machine chugs.

Nice tanks but unless this tank has much thinner armor than the M1A1 or M1A2, there is no reason for it to be destroyed at ranges farther than 2000 meters with just one hit by a T80 125mm sabot shell in OFP.

The sounds of the tank gun and the impact of the shell I must say were quite well done, but this addon needs a lot of work before I feel it behaves realistically for OFP standards.

It has a lot of hope in being an excellent addon, but it needs a lot of work for it to get there.

you sound like a spoilt child. For "OFP standarts" those tanks behave extremely good. And those are Leopard 1 tanks. Pretty old stuff. Offcourse the M1A2 is much stronger.

No, this addon is Leopard 2 and Leopard 2 uparmored with it still keeping the 105mm barrel instead of the 120mm Rhinetail barrel.

I want to see this as a good quality and realistic addon for all, and frankly it won't happen unless feedback like this is given. I never said this addon itself was bad or sucked, so don't get mad at me for criticising an addon because of realism concerns.

It needs a little bit more strength in its armor, then it will be close to par with what it needs to be modelled as.

klick here

Those are Leopard 1 Tanks. The name is Leopard C1, Leopard C2 and Leopard C2 Uparmored. But that's the canadian army name.

btw the link is from Sigma and was posted on page 2 of this thread.

This tank can not be compared to an M1A1, the M1A1 is superior. Also the BIS tanks are not realistic in anyway other then appearance. We are setting a standard.

I've pointed that out before in this thread in any case, to somebody else who wondered why these were so weak in terms of armour. Everything in this Leopard 1 series set (Leopard 1A3, and Leopard 1A5) except the Uparmoured C2 (which is still a Leopard 1A5, it's just covered in MEXAS, Heavy) has less than 400-500mm of RHA, the strongest of which is on the turret, while the hulls have about 200mm.

Absolutely NO MATCH for the T-80's 125mm 2A46 gun in RL, which, firing its 1985 equivalent round, is going to have no trouble at all defeating that in a single shot at any range. What you're seeing is *quite* realistic. [and. . . err. . . nobody ever built a Leopard 2 with a 105mm gun anyway. . . dunno where you got that from]

Sorry if you're disappointed, (and I don't mean to be harsh) but you haven't given useful criticism here, you've merely shown that you haven't done any research.

@Dauragon:

Not yet. . . The best Leopard 2 available, AFAIK so far is Swissmod's 2A4. . . Nobody's done a 2A6 yet, though I think somebody might have done the Strv 122. . . I think I saw it somewhere. . .

I'd be tempted to do it myself, but as you probably know, Canada doesn't have any Leopard 2s, and we're not likely to buy any.

@Badger:

I'm probably going to redo the camo, yeah. . . I just don't know when, and by today's addon standards, that Camo didn't look particularly good. . . of course, it *was* made just after O2 actually came out, so back then I guess it might have been OK, but I looked at it when I was making the new model, and it just didn't stack up. . . sorry.

Sigma: Welcome to the I want Leopard 2s for my country club biggrin_o.gif

The sad thing is that while a country like Ireland could afford MBTs but wont purchase them because attaining new capabilities makes the bean counters fearful of being expected to pay for more new capabilities wow_o.gif

Whereas Canada would have simply been sustaining what is still an essential warfighting and peacekeeping capability (for nexxt to nothing if the CF had acquired some of the surplus Bundeswehr 2A4s)

Have just downloaded the Leopards, and am redownloading the apcs, expect to see a large canadian intervention force on Tonal soon.
