Burl 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Looks like my friends to the east are taking the lead. Quote[/b] ]Britain Makes Spam a CrimeThe British government has decided to make the sending of spam e-mail messages a criminal offense, with fines of as much as $8,000. Under the new law, spammers could be fined in a magistrate's court or for an unlimited penalty by a jury. However, the new law does not carry a jail or prison sentence. Junk e-mail messages make up more than half of all electronic messages, British Communications Minister Stephen Timms said. "It's crucial people feel safe and have confidence in utilizing electronic communication technologies. These regulations will help combat the global nuisance of unsolicited e-mails and texts by enshrining in law rights that give consumers more say over who can use their personal details," he told BBC. The measure, effective Dec. 11, requires companies obtain permission from an individual before they can send an e-mail or text message. The regulation does not cover businesses' e-mail addresses, UPI reported today. Why do I hear Monty Python in my head?

Placebo 29 Posted September 19, 2003 Problem is most spam these days seem to trace back to China and Korea, think they're really going to give a flying-Fubar about some law the British have cooked up? Wish it was feasible but it's really not

Tovarish 0 Posted September 19, 2003 half of my hotmail is Spam. Only half?! Really, I'd say on good days, one out of ten is a legit e-mail  . The bastiges have even begun appearing as text messages on my cellphone
Bordoy 0 Posted September 19, 2003 i get about 100 Spam messages in my junk mail EVERY day
Placebo 29 Posted September 19, 2003 I get maybe 5 a day on average to my main pop3 Email address, but if were to add up the amount I get on all my Email addresses it would be at least 50 a day if not higher
The Frenchman 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Well, I hate spam e-mail but does this count for forums too?!??! Fined spam?!? Uh oh, Avon is going to be in a lot trouble once they look at every single thread in the offtopic board.
edc 0 Posted September 19, 2003 I get quite a bit of spam(maybe 15 or so messages/day), but Outlook automatically deletes all but 1 or two of them so its not so bad. I personally doubt it will really make any difference in the amount of spam that's sent.
waffendennis 0 Posted September 19, 2003 Well i made my own Anit spam: I puted all the OFP contacts in the OFP map and the rest in the rest map so if any one is sending me a mail that's not known in my adres-book well it would be sended to the Spam map and i check it between now and then

walker 0 Posted September 24, 2003 Hi all Just a thought why not put the judges on a do call list perhaps national adverts. Kind Regards Walker
waffendennis 0 Posted September 24, 2003 Nice idea Walker but I dont think that will do much ( well it would do some thing but not that ) . What we can do is: But President George W Bush on the list...And then you have the Spam gone I am sure about it or you have an Spam war
Winters 1 Posted September 24, 2003 A war to find Spammers of Mass Spamming perhaps? The first target is the Hormel corporate HQ from which all Spam begins.

Major Fubar 0 Posted September 25, 2003 Spam should definitely be illegal. Australia are talking about introducing this measure too...but as something like 75% of all spam worldwide originates in USA, then there's nothing we can do. I've had free webmail addresses rendered basically useless by spam. At one stage I actually had to change my primary home email due to the level of spam, which really pissed me off. Spam emails seem to have quadrupled in the last two years or so... - Buy viagra online! - Lose weight! - Enlarge your penis! - Enlarge your breasts! - See naked girls! - See naked animals! - Get a fake diploma! - Gabmle online! Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted September 25, 2003 Quote[/b] ]WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A federal court in Oklahoma has blocked the national "do not call" list that would allow consumers to stop most unwanted telephone sales calls, one week before it was due to take effect. Damnit.... I guess signing up for that was pointless. I do however have one of THESE for those pesky people.
Major Fubar 0 Posted September 25, 2003 I also hate this tactic of making the topic titles seem like legit emails: "Re: Hi!" "Re: Important Meeting" "Did you forget our meeting?" "Important - password change" I really wish the geeks who make worms and other viruses would do something useful and infect all the spam mail servers in the world with some crippling virus... And my perosnal new favourite: - But cigarettes online! (great for the kids out there) Intresting to think that those judges support all those. What does it say about the judiciary? On another note with regard to unsolicited phone calls. When I have the time I often do the following: Quote[/b] ]Unsolicited call selling me something.Hello oh just wait a second. Go away for about 30 seconds Hello can you wait minute I just have to... Go away for 45 seconds Hello your still there oh good your so patient Hold the line while I.... A few minutes this time just keep repeating. My record so far is about 10 minutes. I think it should be an international sport. Remember It dont cost you a penny its is their phone bill. I have also acted realy interested in their product when I have no intention of buying. And a mate of mine trys to sell them stuff.
