PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Right, hi all.

Some time ago I stopped playing ofp because I had a problem with it and it would not load. However this morning I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing, and the problem is still there!!!!!!

Let me explain the problem.........

Right, here is my preferences screen for operation flashpoint: CWC. Note that it is fine, and in the advanced > textures screen I can select different textures.......

ofp-good.jpg

However this is my problem......

In the ofp: Resistance preferences> textures I see this....

ofp-bad.jpg

I cannot select any textures. Then when I try to load the game I get the following error message:

errormsg.jpg

Is this a know problem or what? WHAT SHOULD I DO? sad_o.gifsad_o.gifsad_o.gif

Note that I have uninstalled the game, cleared the entire ofp folder and re-installed the game and the problem is still there. Is it caused by one of the patches?!?!?! sad_o.gif

Move file Flashpoint.cfg out of your OFP folder, rerun the Preferences program, click on AUTODETECT and then see if that fixes your problem.

Also, look at your resolution size in Resistance. Does you monitor support this? Previously, you had it set to 800x600.

Refresh 0 Hz rock.gif ?  This can´t be good..isn´t it ??

Avon´s idea to change the resolution sounds good too me..

You can change the refresh rate in your flashpoint.cfg too:

flashpoint.cfg

-last line

 refresh=x;

i wish you luck  wink_o.gif

What's your Windows display resolution?

Also, did you just recently install or modify your Nvidia drivers?

Yeh I re-installed the 44.03 display drivers just after it stopped working, and I still get this problem.

Since Flashpoint will work im guessing its a problem with resistance.

I alter the flashpoint resolution and i still get the textures not working bug in the advanced tab.

sad_o.gif

It seems to be flashpoint resistance not detecting the display driver or something crazy_o.gif

EDIT

and my windows display resolution is normally around 1200x800, my monitor can really handle any kind of resolution rock.gif

Maybe try putting it on D3D, instead of D3D HW T+L. What version of DirectX do you have?

Version 9 direct x

I wander if its a bad patch I have downloaded or something

This problem is not to do with your OFP or OFP Resistance. Do not change anything there.

This is a problem players on my server have been getting recently, and I believe it ties in with some Windows OS updates.

I experienced it after updating Media Player files and uninstalled these files to restore normal working order.

I am still in the middle of assisting the players who are effected by this, one got this error after running Windows Update, so it is a bit harder to undo I think. Still working on it crazy_o.gif

But anyway this is what I know so far:

It is OS related, not game related.

It is from a recent update or patch.

It could be a DirectX 9/9.0b issue.

It could be DirectX 9.0 related in conjunction with another update.

Windows98 users do not seem to be affected by this error.

When in dout Format is the answer.yeah,Forget about what you had and think about what you are going to get.Just be sure to Back up all your drivers on a CD of something if you do format it.And make sure you know what you are doing.Just my opinion.

Ummm, you don't need to format. Follow my instructions at least before you do that.

If you have WindowsXP you can also roll back to a previous day or week.

Seriously, if that doesn't work then fine, format but its a sh*tload of work rebuilding your OS. crazy_o.gif

This might sound silly, but try 800x600 32 bit, and 640x480 32 bit...

or have you tried every single resoluiton? The resolution mode you are picking is obviously not configured properly in the registry. (or so it looks)

EDIT: see also if you have another adapter listed in that menu... if nothing works try to get a good driver remover, like NVClean or something like that, then reinstall drivers.

44.03 are not WHQL nvidia drivers for window 98 (perhaps it is for XP , but not for Win9x/ME )

They are good drivers from my tests and from some readings in this nvidia driver forum from Guru3D  , but you should try the last W9x/Me WHQL drivers 40.72 that are WHQL for Win9x/ME (so for window 98)

Usually when a driver is not WHQL , it should be OK for most of the systems but can be unstable on other , a WHQL one is certified to have stability at least (but they are not always the best in performances, as by example 44.03 fix a texture bug in Homeworld 2 that 40.72 WHQL didnt fix)

I remember some nvidia drivers having known problems with refresh rates , i know a fix has been made , but as i never experienced refresh rate problem i never search info about this.

Maybe someone more up-to-date in nvidia drivers will remember of this refresh rate fix

Thanks Leuitenant Damage

I'll give that a go. Wot is windows OS? I use windows 98 by the way

OS = Operating System

Operating System = Win98 / XP / NT / 2000 etc.

You are the first player I've seen to have this problem on Windows98, congratulations.

I looked into the issue further last night with the player from my server that has this issue. I ran DirectX diagnostics and Direct3D was actually disabled because of this problem.

I do not a solution yet, if you have tried what I have suggested and it still has not resolved then format maybe be the only option.

Regards,

If this is connected i dunno, but actually battlefield 1942 and GTA: vice city both have stopped working, but call of duty demo still works fine.

They're the only 3 games i really play.

Well... since today I've got the same problem! But I've updated my VMware Workstation 3 to version 4... did you perhaps also? I don't know if this is the problem, but OFP never failed me before... so there is a good case the problem is related. I'll let you know if I find out more.

To all the people helping us... thanks, keep up the good work!  biggrin_o.gif

I fixed it!

This is how I managed to fix it (with my bros instructions)

1. Go to START MENU then RUN...

2. type in DXDIAG

3. You will then see a window with lots of features in it, and if on starting it up it asks you if you want to scan ur comp for stuff just click NO.

4. Go to DISPLAY tab at the top

5. About half way down the screen is Direct 3D Acceleration. By default this is set to 'enabled'. Basically what you need to do is toggle this off then on again.... so click Disable box, and then it will tell you it is disabled.

6. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. This lets your actions really take effect. Your windows should load up normally again.

7. Go back to Start menu > Run> dxdiag program

8. Go back to the display tab and select ENABLE Direct 3D acceleration. To be sure you may wish to restart your computer again at this point, however I did not and it still works.

9. Go to flashpoint preferences and click on 'Autodetect' - you have to do this for it to notice that it can do the textures again.

After doing this my operation flashpoint resistance started working again. I have absolutely no idea why lol.

Thanks for all your help you guys *KISSES N HUGZ* lol.

THANKS!!!!!!

(I recommend anyone having this problem to try this.)

LT. Damage you may wish to take note of this technique anyway.

THANKS AGAIN ALL!

LOL I did just the same... (and uninstalled VMware Workstation smile_o.gif). I just did the DirectDraw and Direct3D test (which failed, no spinning box but just some flashes...) and then tried 1.92b... all of a sudden it worked! (?) Thought it was 1.91 that only crashed... but it also works fine now! Really strange...

If someone can tell me (us) the origin of this problem (or bug?) I'd be very grateful!

Direct3D Test within DXDiag remains twisted... can you confirm this?

Sometime reinstall DirectX can solve this problem

I remember in the DirectX 7 time i had a similar problem after installing a program , for unknown reason it disabled Direct3D support (and i didnt have acces to it in DxDiag).

After reinstalling DirectX , it enabled again the Direct3D option

So perhaps if you have this Direct3D disabled problem, to reinstall your current DirectX should solve it.
