Now this might be a bit offtopic, but i was searching the net for good Mig27 reference photos and i came up with this page: http://homepage.tinet.ie/~steven/iaf.htm

Yikes, didn't know the Indian AF was so large. Probably a good fighting force too because of their frequent war experience with Pakistan and stuff.

The Indian Air Force is the 4th largest in the world smile_o.gif

WOAW Footmuch the mig27 is getting better every post  wow_o.gif  wow_o.gif  wow_o.gif

Great work!you have flattened the front screen (as far as i can see on the screens)

Now the only think i still not like is the nose. i think thats the only part of the plane that needs some more work in my eyes.

Can´t wait to make a skin for it.

Btw Maybe you want to make a customer skin pack for your planes from all who make reskins from yours (..like the desertbuggy)

That and the different country markings will make a really cool pack i think.

-Nose with the laser and cameras and maybe with all those antennas (if you want ..that will improve details..and so quallity)

-And afterburner

With these two things i can´t see why this plane wouldn´t rock!!!!

PS: Oh and maybe you should think of making the engine black not white..it doesn´t do a nice effect in opf because of the engine.

Miles I'd just like to say that the latest variant of the Fishbed is in fact the Lancer. An Israeli modification of the Romanian MIG-21s which have all recently been upgraded and will serve til at least 2010.So we'll be blessed with the presence of this classic for another few years in European skies  smile_o.gif

True, but I think most countries still flying them or who recently were flying them only have them up to the BIS standard although I may be wrong about that.

I'm mainly interested in just doing Syrian and Egyptian Mig-21's.  As far as I know these have been upgraded to BIS levels or as in the case of the Egyptian Mig-21's have been adapted to use Sidewinder AA missiles and RA550 Matra AA missiles (upgraded by the Italians).  In any case externally they all look more or less like the BIS version with the main differences being internally with the electronics as well as with the types of weapons they carry.

I tried to get Footmunch's model to look more like the BIS version since it's most likely the most widely used version currently.   If any mod team wants to make it a Lancer they won't have to change the model.  They'll only need to change the texturepaths, class names, and weapons loadouts as well as perhaps the cockpit textures to make it look like the cockpit of a western aircraft (with multi-functional digital displays) rather then that lovely barf green-blue color of the Russian cockpits filled with analog dials and meters.

Ok, here is a pic of my not-quite-finished MiG-27 reskin:

http://www.geocities.com/ksmwebm/mig27skin.jpg

[Add a space in the end of the adress if it doesn't load]

I brightened and sharpened the pic a little, the skin looks a bit brighter ingame. Hope you like it. I based the coulours of some pics of 27s and 23s. Seems to be the most common scheme, but on the other hand in russia there never really seems to be a standard issue camouflage.

EDIT:

The reference pic i used... if it is of any interest. Yes i know i fuxored up the brownish colours. Oh well.

Drink less coffee perhaps? smile_o.gif

Footmunch already listed what he was working on, and you can be assured that he is working on those aircraft as he is perhaps one of the most, if not the most productive addon maker in the OFP community. So please give him a little slack. He's been doing a great job!

Me too! I've been waiting for this baby ever since Deadsoldier's F15E came out! I'm surprised no-one made one the first place!

Btw... do you think the AA-8 (R-60) Aphid models are a bit too thick?

Sorry, I've had a virus attack, and it's put a little bit

of a cramp on my time online. Anyway:

Wonder - Yep, the Aphids are a bit over-sized. I've added

AS-7 Kerry's to the model, and the scale differences were

obivous. The AA-8 has got smaller(and thinner), and the KAB-

500 has got bigger. (Current loadout = 2xKAB, 2xKerry,

2xAphid and cannon - may add Rockets as well)

SXEP - Afterburner (with expanding engine nozzle) added.

Although I can't promise, the main mapping of the wings/side/

insert will not change massively, so you can make a start

now.

The Indian AF is a large customer for the Flogger. I may do

a version, or expose the Flogger to the roundel stuff (which

has the Indian roundel) so that mission makers can do it

themselves. The Pakistan roundel is also in there, I think.

I'll post the latest version tomorrow, along with, hopefully, a

final MiG-17 and F-5.

Patience Sxep! smile_o.gif He he did say he had a virus attack. I'm sure he will make all the corrections we point out. He just needs some time.

Oh, btw: will the KABs need to be illuminated, or will they home on the target by themselves? AFAIK there are both TV (KAB- and Laser guided versions of this bomb.

No, I didn't mean put MiG-27 into PAF, but they do use

B-57's and the Chinese versions of the MiG-21 and Mig-17,

all of which will be "roundled" soon. Then there's the Mirage...

SXEP - The nose is tonight's task. If I spend some polys,

there's no reason it can't look like the picture in this thread.

Yup! Your roundel system is a good one Footmunch. I hope this is a trend that other addon makers will follow your example for such widely used aircrafts as the F-16, C-130, Mirage F-5, Gazelle, Super Puma, ect...

I've got another suggestion for roundels: Angola. Unfortunately, I can't get a functional link to an isolated roundel, but I do have this website with lots of pictures like these:

That reminds me... hehehehe... Yer gonna hate me for this Footmunch, but I was thinking...hmmm... since you already have a Mig-27, a Mig-23 should be easy to make. smile_o.gif

After the final version of the Mig-27 is released I can try messing around with converting your Mig-27 into a Mig-23 since I know you have your plate full of cool planes to at the moment. All it should take is just modifying the nose a bit and some of the textures... and then of coarse renaming everything and maybe changing the weapon load out.

I wish I was at home right now so I could give it a try to see with the beta how hard it would be.

Oh and I also second the notion of using the Angolan Roundels. We already have your wonderful South African Bucaneer so have some Angolan (and Cuban if there aren't any already) roundels to stick on your Mig21 and Mig-27 would be absolutely wonderful for creating some Angolan War missions just using pre-existing addons (Bibmi's African miltia and desert Resistance troops and tanks, along with the old SEB Black Ops UH-1 and a few other addons).

I just wish someone would make a nice African plains map with big areas of flat brush country. smile_o.gif

I've been using Jungle Everon for African missions...I made a quick little mission with French UN soldiers being flown in by Puma to investigate a village where 12 civilians were murdered...As you can imagine it isn't as simple as that wink_o.gifsmile_o.gif

Yeah I have a Angolan mission I was working on using the Desert Malden map that was pretty fun.  Using the old SEB Black Op UH-1's that were delivered to South African forces by a CIA guy in exchange for diamonds.  He also drops off a Special Forces sniper from Ft. Bragg  named "Bubba" to help out.     smile_o.gif

The UH-1's then later fly you and your troops into Angolan territory to try and capture a Russian General at the airbase.  Keeping your from doing this is a bunch patrols and Mi-24 Hind gunships patrolling the area.  At any rate after you captured the general, you have to link up with an extraction convoy because the Russians are on the alert and then make it back to base.

I just recently figured out how to add air support without requiring a second airbase, so I also am in the process of adding Footmunch's South African Bucaneers in the mission to provide air support.   I basically have them out in the desert with no fuel.  But with the "air support" trigger, it fuels them up and uses a "Get Pos" script to put them at a few thousand meters in altitude from which they do their mission.  smile_o.gif  Of coarse when the Bucaneers try to land they get blown up by RPG's and stuff.  Hehehe.   But at any rate, it would be cool to replace the Su-25's that I currently have at the airbase, with Angolan and/or Cuban Mig-27's and Mig-21's.   The Cuban Mig-21 and Mig-23 pilots actually performed very well during that war.

Oh... I also should add, that the Angolan roundels would be good becuase it would also allow for a simulation of the post-Cold War Angolan Civil war, in other words the continuing battle between the Angolan government and UNITA rebels that only ended fairly recently. This would be a little easier to make a mod for I think since it wouldn't require making all the exotic APC's and tanks that the South African armed forces use (they got some very cool APC's and tanks).

Em you realise that Angola doesn't actually feature much if any desert, trust me a SA acquaintance fought there.

They used Pumas for black ops insertion btw.

Angola (at least the red/black yin/yang with the yellow star)

is already in rktroundels.pbo, as are Cuba and South Africa.

Anyway, close to final (ie no problems == release next week) F-5:

Link

(Crippler - I couldn't reproduce the BullPup problem. OFP version? Previous F-5 versions? Other addons? Bad d/l?)

Close to final MiG-17:

This MiG is now roundel-capable. There are two versions - an

East side with (fantastic) textures by DigitalCenturion - a

Res side with textures by me. Both are roundel-capable using

the same procedure described for the F5 above. The picture

shows the East MiG with Pakistani markings, and the Res MiG

with North Korean roundels.

Close to final Canberra:

(If the cockpit texes are fubar-ed, I know already and will

fix. If not, hooray.)

Now roundel-capable, as in:

new_roundels.jpg

Here we have some of the new roundels displayed: (from left

to right) New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden and Rhodesia.

New roundel pack - Added:

r_northkorea.paa

r_nz.paa

r_nzlv.paa (Low vis Kiwi)

r_rhodesia.paa

r_switzerland.paa

r_sweden.paa

Complete list: Full Roundel List

Finally, we have a late Alpha MiG-27:

Link

(Sorry, I forgot to do some pictures).

New textures by Digital Centurion.

Afterburner scipt and animation (engine nozzle expansion/

contraction).

New nose arrangment - early textures.

Loadout now -

2x KAB-500TV Precision Guided Munitions

2x AS-7 "Kerry" Air-to-Ground Missiles

2x AA-8 "Aphid" Air-to-Air Missiles

GSH-6-30 Cannon.

New main gear arrangement

New nose gear arrangement

Folding Ventral Fin

New canopy.

I will add roundel coding to this plane in the future. I will

also add conditions to the Afterburner user action (ie engine

on, speed > 50, etc) and improve the speed-changing aspect

of the reheat. The afterburner _may_ also change the

effectiveness of missile spoofing, if I can get the scripts

working.
