theavonlady 2 Posted July 23, 2003 I know the concepts have been brought up here occassionally but there was an article in last week's Business Week about this. So I thought some of you might be interested: Warrior site - US Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA.
mr. Duck 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Damn  That looks like something coming out of a sci-fi movie/serie  (Farscape anybody? Peacekeepers?) It would be fun if somebody made a mod about this in Ofp (or Ofp2).

FatNinjaKid 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Here is a video about hasbro's co-operation with the u.s. army. The second half contains footage of guys in similar gear. http://video.ndr.de/ramgen/media/tv/weltspiegel/20030706_usa.rm The comments are German but it's just the usual whine so you don't really miss anything

Skul 0 Posted July 23, 2003 Something I'm wondering about is weight. How much does that stuff weigh? All the technology in the helmet looks like it would be a bit heavy. I guess enhanced neck muscles will be a requirement of 21st century soldiers Still, looks very cool. [Gareth Gates must die]
theavonlady 2 Posted July 23, 2003 Something I'm wondering about is weight. How much does that stuff weigh? From the BW article: Quote[/b] ]In both cases, a key objective is to take a load off soldier's backs. Today, they lug 20kg or more into battle, depending upon which weapon they carry, and the so-called marching load is almost twice as heavy. In five years, the Army wants to trim the combat load to 20kg, and then to 7kg with the Future Warrior outfit. MIT's Vest predicts that armored vests, which weigh 13kg now, will end up "at around 4kg, maybe even 3."

-TU--33ker 0 Posted July 23, 2003 the german comment was about the relation of generations of americans to their GI Joe toys. Iraq war boosts the sales and collectors buy all of it. the army has a coorporation with Mattel. the army shows them the current gear and mattel shows them the future gear. theavonlady 2 Posted July 23, 2003 @ July 23 2003,19:39)]Notice how there's no camouflage in the future? From the BW article: Quote[/b] ]The black battle garb planned for the late 2010's looks scary enough when you can see it, but invisible soldiers would be a lot scarier. No joke. Scientists at DuPont Co. are already hunting for ways to manipulate light so soldiers could appear to disappear. And if that doesn't pan out, EIC Laboratories Inc. in Norwood Mass., is working on "electrochromic camoufalge" - a chameleon fabric that would change colors instantly to blend in with its surroundings.
