Battle over hokkaido demo released!

Recommended Posts

MOMO,

3) Thank you for the comment. I'm supposed to be responsible for translation, but there were some (frankly, most of them) missions that I didn't get to translate and had to make the mission programmers to do it. Without a doubt the English will be polished on our official release.

2) Speaking of Japanese sounds, that's the exact thing that came up on Japanese OFP community as well. I've been diligently looking at description.ext and in fact trying out some recording of Japanese voices (ex, "who are you?!", "Don't move"). Hope I can make enough stocks of them that will be usable in the official release.

As for (1), Mr. Jyotohei, the leader (kindda) of the project, said that he used UNIX type enter (whatever that means).

Yeah, sorry that it sounds like excuses, but just wanted to point out that all of your feedbacks are exactly what we are trying to fix. Thank you for your comment.

___

I really appreciate comments from all of you biggrin.gif

Hellfish6,

Thanks a lot for the bug report. I'll notify it to the mission members.

9mm,

We did try to implement Asian faces by default, but we didn't know how to do it at the time....

Miles Tag,

Yeah, in OFP AI engine, OH1 doesn't have too many uses...

but it's there for the sake of it.

Also, I'm working really hard in making the terrain right now (gee, making road that looks good is quite a challenging thing to do, ain't it?) which will pull out the importance of using landscape as a cover, and OH1 might come into play for recon missions.

theavonlady,

Thank you for mirroring the addon.

Japanese users reported that the MOD will load fine with the -mod option, but also reported that if you keep putting the addon back and forth from

\ofp\res\addon\ to

\ofp\addon\

it worked.

I really appreciate comments from all of you. Really. biggrin.gif

As a rule, I recommend that you should never put any unofficial addons into OFP\RES\AddOns.

Great job guys! smile.gif

Now I dont recall what the vehicle is called (it's the LAV type) but when you zoom out, it looks beige and untextured.

Also, the troop weapon sounds are a bit lacking...they seem dull.

A few nitpicks but in general, a very decent beta release.

I'm also getting CTD with all the missions. I'm running a fresh install of 1.90 with no other addons / mods.

How do I try it in a mod folder? I've not come across that trick before.

Oh no, please don`t... If better armour in case of Bradley I can understand, in case od BMP I do not agree. It has lighter, weaker aluminium armour, no match with this Bradley`s.

Well, must download demo smile.gif But one question- how there was said before Japan tank are stronger than BIS` M1A1. How looks comparation with for example Simga`s tanks (unofficial standart smile.gif)?

Hehehe... yeah... unfortunately grad school's been keeping me from finishing up any of my missions. But hopefully this summer I'll have some time to finish some up. smile.gif

I redownloaded the zip file from http://ofp.gamezone.cz/ and no more CTD. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

My fisrt zip file came from the BOH site. Maybe the zip is corrupt... confused.gif

For the "-mod=" go to the avon FAQ

Avon express biggrin.gif

Thanks but gamezone.cz was where I found it. May try again later but its a big file for a 56k modem. I'll try Avons suggestion first.

John C. Flett- I also use 56k sad.gif but I can generally download large files. I would suggest

1. Open your dialer program and check out "properties" or "options" or whatever and set the idle time before disconnect sufficiently high. I use either 4 hours or 8 hours.

2. Set it up before you go to bed. When you wake up, presto!

One suggestion for an addition to the mod would be an F-15J. Perhaps you could retexture NAA/Deadsoldier's?

I'll download the next version when you fix the M249 conflict and the overpowered tank problem. The US is certainly on very good terms with Japan but I doubt that Japan's indeginous defesne industry would have licensed or developed sufficiently advanced armor and ammunition to defeat M1's.

BTW did anyone ever read the throwaway Clancy paperback "Debt of Honor"? Aside from the spookily foreshadowing thing about a suicide pilot ramming a passenger plane into a major US building

Armor balance for Tanks... I'll tell it to the leader as well.

__

PFC_Mike,

I've read Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy in Japanese smile.gif

At first I thought Clancy was too unrealistic in its ending, but then it did really happen didn't it?

Now, I have to ask ya; did you read Rainbow Six?

(oh, this I've read in English (i.e. English language) for the sake of SAT vocab building smile.gif

... quite a nice excuse to read a fun book. If you're a high school junior, try it once biggrin.gif

...hell, I have to study for that test)

hmm... SARS? Misanthropes? Terrorists? wow.gif

...nah.

CanadianTerror,

Yes, the modeller has pointed out that there was some problems that after a certain distance the tank seemed like an Abrahms (sp?)

Needless to say, it'll be fixed.

But thank you for notifying us.

Hellfish6,

Although the 'ofp-rush' has receded in the past year or so, OFP community is still large.

In a very large and extensive online forum group in Japan, the OFP users' Forum still gets question if they should buy resistance to use BAS's addons, BOH, etc, which tells me something - OFP's still growing in Japan as well.

Quite frankly, I think I saw more OFP packages in Japan (that is, when I went back to Japan during the summer) than in CompUSA and other American computer store though (Well, the only thing I saw was Red Hammer with a discount tag of $12.99... Americans tend to like no-brainer games, I say.)

Best working OPF mod so far for me! And by the looks of what is going on in the modding community now probably won't be beaten! smile.gif

Invasion 1944 should learn from them how to release polished addons! wink.gif

I've downloaded your demo, and I think you guys are doing a great job, however there are some things that caught my attention. The typ90,type 89 and type 96 are really a must, perfect models packed with some of the best textures I've seen, for me this armoured vehicles are a defenetaly must reall, really impressive, my honest congratulations to your team.

The Sounds are all really nice, don't see anything wrong here, the Trucks are ok, they don't have the same texture quality work as the mentioned vehicles but they are nice.

Now what I perssonally don't like much are the soldiers, I think they don't match the quality of the vehicles, the weapons are all nice, it was funny the zasleh effect given in all the weapons btw biggrin.gif

So, in my opinion, if you guys do polish the units a little bit more, like giving some more shadows to them and like making the cammo actually feel more like it was used instead of being a so much straight one, I think this MOD is one of the best being produced.

So keep it going guys, and thanks for all the effort dedicated to our game and specially thanks for sharing it with us wink.gif

Almost what I do in reverse. I've got to do it while I'm out. My PC is in my bedroom and theres no way I could sleep the noise this thing makes. I am however off to see '25th hour' shortly so I can try again in a while.

Has anyone else tried to fire a missile from the Type 89 IFV? My aimpoint is off to the bottom right of the sight and I can't lock on to targets. When I fire a missile, it just goes about 75m and hits the ground.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Oh, and to you Hokkaido guys, if and when you plan to revamp your armor balance, I'd suggest balancing them to Sigma-6's tank pack. Those are the most realistic modern tanks we've got.

Thanks.

Edit: Oh, I wanted to ask if you guys would ever consider making this?

yeah, no-brainer games are very popular in the US. I recall a while back hearing that Solitaire was the most popular PC game...sad news. And just about every dweeb I meet is a CS-loving fool who has a mental age of 12. Seriously, I don't physically know a single other OFP or even AA or DoD player.

DEath to Commie-Nazis and CS!

And hooray for well done addons!

Yamato.... one thing that's really bugging me about this pack.... is the faces... while it's easy enough to use a "setface" script to get the Japanese faces that come with the pack onto the soldiers, it is NOT easy to get those faces on the vehicle crews. I REALLY REALLY hope that in the next version that your mod team make the faces already scripted onto the soldiers. You might ask the SEB mod team if there are ways to make the faces random, but even if there isn't, I'd rather see the same faces on the same types of soldiers then seeing what looks like Americans driving around all the Japanese vehicles. The only crew that look Japanese are the WAC pilots.

There is a way of manually putting crew (with setface scripted faces) into the empty vehicles, however when you do that, they do not react to "unload", "Load", and "transport unload" waypoints properly which makes that a real pain in the ass if you are transporting other soldiers in the trucks, APC's and IFV's. sad.gif

Anyhoo... Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the next version!

Alright I've downloaded again, I've tried various folders and I'm still getting CTD. I've done tests in the editor and all the soldiers and aircraft work fine its just the vehicles that cause problems. Infact every one of them but the apc, jeeps and types 89,90 +96 cause an instant crash..

Assuming these all came in just the one .pbo can somebody somehow send or mirror their working version so that I don't have to download the whole thing again. I'm assuming that a bad download is still an option but having tried twice...

No, just took a look and its not all in the one file. Dang!
