What would you like to see in ofp2

Recommended Posts

Maybe you could have a "realism" difficulty setting, where medics can only heal minor wounds on the spot, vehicles take longer to repair, and you could institute other realistic things like occasional weapon jams, overheating in automatic weapons etc.

Yea, if major wounds you would have to call in a Chopper to Evacuate them, that would be cool.

Also, better air and artillery support. As the squad leader, you should be able to call in an airstrike on enemy poisitions if there are any planes airborne. What would also be more realistic is enemy air and artillery support.....

Imagine advancing on the enemy town when you hear mortar rounds heading you way, or you look up to see an enemy fighter-bomber off-loading rockets at you.

And still on the topic of planes, there should be an air war going on while you are fighting on the ground, so you might look up to see a squadron of your fighters tangling with an enemy squadron.

And yet another thing, a non-linier campaign.

I think I stated this a few pages back..........

Also I would like to see what you do can affect the rest of the campaign for the rest of the forces, just not your own. If you go behind enemy lines of a spec ops mission to blow up a fuel tank, but you decide to blow up a tank depot as well and maybe kill an enemy General who just happens to be in town, that will have greater effect on the enemy tthan juyst destroying the fuel depot. As such, the enemy line in that position will be weakened, and a new less experianced general will have to take over.

But wait! Therews more!

I think the jump-into-any-vehicle-you-want should be a bit revised. I wouldnt expect that a infantry pilot would be able to fly a chopper, or that a chopper pilot woul;d make top notch infantry.

I think that there should be a system so that if somebody does a role they are not trained in(like driving a tank for example), they do the task worse, if at all. For the sake of fun, you can drive wahtever you want, but if you want somebody to fly a chopper while you go gunner, you better get an experianced pilot or you are likely to crash and burn.

the whole crashing and burning part is a bit discouraging to me as i'm a helicopter pilot! I would like to see real helicopter dynamics when they crash. not just a huge fireball that looks good. Helicopter crashes are more dangerous than fixed wing aircraft but still lots of people survive them if they are done right. If you lose rotor rpm you autorotate down, i've done it hundreds of times (in training - i admit i wasn't getting shot at!wink.gif and haven't died once!

I saw some footage on the news a few weeks ago about a blackhawk crashing in Afganistan on a rescue mission. the pilot caused a whiteout and got disorientated (very easy to do) and his tail rotor hit the ground. no fireball. the heli spun over and the rotors flew off, it then rolled down the mountain for a few hundred metres. you could see two guys in it roll out onto the snow, get up and stagger around a bit, all of the them survived, including the pilots who no doubt got out and puked their guts out after!

Unfortunately our two chinooks that we sent to Afghanistan were busy so they couldn't go and pickup the crew.

What i find funny is that the americans take a carrier task force, the famed USMC and are supported by B52s and we took 2 chinooks, a few pieces of artillery and a few Royal Marines.

We had the same kill rate of "confirmed taliban and terrorist fighters" as the americans, didn't bomb weddings or canadians, didn't use carpet bombing, and didn't lose any soldiers, equipment or vehicles.

The point of this is that if you have NATO have the British because we're everywhere (our foreign policy still thinks we own a third of the world lol) and if you have Americans have collateral damage and friendly fire.

Just my second incredibly biased, pro British opinion

There's a very similar story in either B20 or The One Who Got Away, can't remember which smile.gif

Jinef, the rescue you are describing took place on Oregon's Mount Hood in the United States. It was captured on video by a newscrew in a second chopper

It was a National Guard unit that had been sent to rescue a group of climbers that has falled into a crevasse -- three of the climbers received fatal injuries in the fall, and several were critical. The helicopter pilot did not get disoriented, the chopper lost lift at an altitude of over 10000 feet while in a hover, and the pilot pulled the aircraft away from the climbers underneath.

Because of the steep snow-covered slope, the Pave Hawk slid several hundred yards downhill after initially rolling over several times and expelling some of the crew.

Well i haven't read the one that got away and there isn't a helicopter crash in Bravo two zero so i guess it must be in the one that got away, that's by Chris Ryan isn't it?.

The SAS is very cool and definitely should be included in OFP. I'm not going to obviously say they're the best but in comparison to the US special guys -

SAS total population - around 350

US guys total population - 46000 (i guess the 45650 extra are cannon fodder!wink.gif

SAS successful ops - too many to name (e.g. iranian embassy in 1980)

US guys succ..... i don't think there are any! lol

PS. if you want to piss off an american airman, ask him how you can fit a herc in to a Jolly green!

To keep this post on topic:

We need Jolly greens to rescue pilots that eject over the sea in their little dingies and of course to drop supplies like ammo, jeeps and of course men.

I might be wrong but i just noticed that i said a few weeks go when i meant months, maybe there was a recent crash.

Perhaps the difference is simply our SAS have been involved in more public incidents. The Navy Seals for example were very active during Vietnam, I would certainly consider them in the same kind of field as the SAS.

You probably think you're being funny insulting American troops but seeing as every day they put their lives at risk just as much as our guys do I think they deserve a smidge more respect. That and the fact flame baiting isn't tolerated on the forums of course.

Yes it's by Chris Ryan and yes the incident is in that book, I just checked, they were in a Puma that decided it wanted to bounce on a hillside, all walked away from it unscathed smile.gif

hi! i'd like to see more stuff to do with parachutes.

1. shooting holes into parachute (from the ground of course)

2. Well, only if that's possible in real life (i dont know so much about army stuff), the ability to shoot while coming down via parachute

if its a steerable parachute you would have no time to shoot and with a unsteerable either i think

Here is a link to the story, complete with still images and video.

The wrecked Pave Hawk was plucked off the mountain by a Chinook.

I did not want to offend anyone, just express an opinion that i have refined so as not to appear anti - amercan, just anti - american foreign policy

I don't insult American troops, I insult the American goverment, the american troops are told what to do by the goverment just as we are. In fact American troops probably are more courageous and go to war more often because their goverment has changed it's foreign policy to "turn the world into one large america that we control and there will be no problems"

I'm not being funny, i'm being serious but trying to make it look funny so people read it but don't get too steamed up about it. I went to New York in the summer to see my relatives (father side) and talked to them about 11/9 and asked if they thought they doing the right thing by going in to Afghanistan, they all said no. Americans are a nice people fundamentally but america is the world's most hated country in the world because they are the largest economically developed country. Americans have to accept that.

When we (the UK) were the most powerful and hated we didn't accept it until the end of our reign and it came to us - everyone hates us

Terrorism has been around for a long long time. The first recorded event was in the time of the Mongol and Chinese empires. We had soldiers in Northern Ireland being shot at by the IRA supplied with AR-18s which they got with the money of Irish sympathizers in the USA. In 1972 Europe experienced terrorism first hand - money to the intelligence services was increased and special forces formed into and specialised into CT roles - GSG9, GIGN, SAS, Dutch Marines etc. The american goverment thought "stupid europeans, that won't happen to us"

GWB - "an entirely new and original threat has presented itself, let's kill it with bombs"

I'm afraid that i don't support this whole war on terrorism at all. Mainly because it's led by some cowboy who thinks he in the wild west and that revenge is best. You fight this with intel and we have been for the past 30 years. America is now fighting the very people it put into a position of power.

GWB could prove that these "rogue states" have WMD by simply looking at the receipts.

If america reverted it's foreign policy to that of before WW1 that is written down somewhere in the constitution it would become the teacher instead of the bully. (crap metaphor sorry)

I hope this adresses most of your problems with me.

[*] Realistic/Original vehicle control model option ie: Fly a chopper like a real one, or like in OFP

[*] True Seasons

[*] Water a different elevations

[*] Attack dogs

[*] Tall grass etc.

[*] Terrain and buildings that actually take damage (bricks ripped off) asking way too much I know.

[*] Different size people (kids etc)

[*] lots of other stuff....

just wishes

yeah and all in all more life on the maps. i mean, where are all the nogovans etc.? Well, I know we dont need them on the battlefield and they wouldn't be there in real life but they cetainly would be somewhere....I just want to see some people in the cities i go through or on the fields, which currently hardly ever is the case.

You have to put them in your missions yourself, in the campain there are plenty of civilians i think.

Ah, Jinef, did you post in the right thread?

Speaking of parachutes, that's another thing I'd like to see for OFP2:

- Ability to shoot paratroopers while they are in the air

- Ability to fire your weapon while parachuting down

- Related to this, ability to fire weapon from appropriate passenger spots on vehicles (back of an open truck etc.)

Would shaking trees/bushes be so hard to implement ? In Ghost Recon when you hear the wind you can also see the trees slightly shake and give off that wood-cracking sound. It makes the whole experience so much more "alive".

I don't mean for trees to shake 20 degrees each way, just slightly to signify the wind we so often hear is actually having some effect too.

BTW I would love to see choppers/planes kick up some dust when flying low. Anyone played Ghost Recon: Island Thunder ? You'll see what I mean

wrong thread bucko.

and a quick reply.

1. American cultural influence and foreign policy isn't anywhere near the destructiveness of European imperialism, colonialism, and warmongering of the past.  don't even compare them.

2.  I would love to return to foreign policy from before WW1.  Unfortunately, the change came about because a number of moronic people in certain countries tried to genocide each other repeatedly in the twentieth century.  This forced the U.S to become a (the) major player in global affairs.

ok.. back to OFP2 wishes smile.gif

Simple (maybe) request:

Scripting commands for getting and setting the yaw, pitch, and roll of an object, with perhaps an array of three angles. This, combined with the velocity commands would make a lot possible in terms of cutscenes.

Maybe something like:

object setOrientation [yaw, pitch, roll];

x = Orientation object
