FallenPaladin 0 Posted April 8, 2003 I like that game. It`s a great shooter for a short timeperiod with great movie feeling. The AI isn`t good, but that fits together with the movie BHD, so you have masses of enemies running at you. The graphics are great, nice water and dust effects and the nightvision is amazing, too, looks like the real thing. Not as ugly as the OFP version. The sound is good, too, but not as good as in Raven Shield, while the music in BHD is amazing and helps the movie feeling. The missions are well made with a lot of scripted events and radio messages. Often you are gunner onboard of Humvees or in choppers. Quite cool! You can finish that game in about 3-5 hours I think, but it`s a lot of fun! I hope there`ll be some more missions with the same quality in the future. Maybe as gift or addon. Haven`t been able to test MP now, I wonder how that is. Longinius 1 Posted April 8, 2003 "I like that game. It`s a great shooter for a short timeperiod with great movie feeling." I second this. "The AI isn`t good, but that fits together with the movie BHD, so you have masses of enemies running at you." Well, the AI sucks, to be frank. Bad guys are stupid, but your own guys are even worse. I think I had to take out 90% of all targets myself. "The graphics are great, nice water and dust effects and the nightvision is amazing, too, looks like the real thing. Not as ugly as the OFP version." True, true. "The sound is good, too, but not as good as in Raven Shield, while the music in BHD is amazing and helps the movie feeling." Yep, agree here aswell. "The missions are well made with a lot of scripted events and radio messages. Often you are gunner onboard of Humvees or in choppers. Quite cool!" Kind of agree. It was to linear though and to much trial and error. I hate missions you have to solve in only one way, step by step. Its ok to have one set end, but I want to be able to take many ways when getting there. "Haven`t been able to test MP now, I wonder how that is." Its fast and easy fun. dayglow 2 Posted April 8, 2003 after the demo, I just can't see myself buying it. A step up for the Delta Force series, but still not that great. I'm waiting for someome to create something amazing with the BAS addons. (the delta campaign is pretty good, but I want MORE) COLINMAN
Shack 0 Posted April 8, 2003 I bought this after trying the Demo Beta ages ago, I've nearly completed it and I think overall its a good game. It doesn't try to be a sim, so I don't try and compare it with OFP, from the outset its a shooter with a realistic theme and it does that very well. Its one of those games thats good for stress relief, for when some stupid Welsh woman tries to claim 400 quid off your insurance cause you supposedly backed your car into her garage, you can just load one of the Hummvee missions and just shoot stuff when an OFP mission would take longer to set up, and taking pot shots at her windows with your rifle probably wouldn't be the best idea I don't usually take much notice of graphics in games, sometimes crap graphics have excellent gameplay (Carrier Command anyone?) but the graphics on this one really amazed me, the water effects are the best I've seen in any game so far (albeit I don't play these silly shooters like Unreal so I wouldn't know if they beat it). The Nightvision effects are very well done too, they give the impression that they NVGs are actually making a difference rather than the usual 'Monitor Green Screen Mode' effect. Also some of the profit from the game goes to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation which helps the kids of fallen operators.
DarkLight 0 Posted April 9, 2003 I went to a friend yesterday and we played the game for a while, couldn't play MP due to some problems so we just played SP. I must say i had a lot of fun, great graphics, nice weapons, good sound,... The amount of realism is just right, not too much but still enough, just the right amount of realism to make it fun. I love the sniper rifles, they really kick ass, too bad the MP didn't work, perhaps it'll work next time i go to him Overall i love this game, i've played every DF game, DF1 was good, DF2 kicked some serious ass, LW sucked big time due to the fact that it was possible to see a sniper from about 1000m. You know, an enemy at 1000m was a black dot on your screen, aaaaargh, that game was sniper hell! TFD was better than LW but still the pixel problem sucked big time. And now, BHD, no more annoying pixels running around the place, graphics have changed A LOT and looks a lot more realistic. I must say, this might be the best DF game yet, but of course i cannot say this for sure because i haven't tried the MP yet... I like this game, and maybe i'll like it even more when i've tried the MP.

ZIKAN 0 Posted April 9, 2003 Its short, its got crap AI, cartoon graphics, but its a blast on multiplayer, its fast and furious, forget the single player mode, it has good atmospheric sounds and music too. Its not an OFP beater, BIS has nothing to worry about yet However......What it does better than OFP is the CQB (close quarter battle) which really works well in open areas and in buildings. I particulary like the roll/lean function. Also the fact as in all DF games you can swim and use a knife. We want these things in frikken OFP!!! Sort it out BIS! They have eradicated the black pixel syndrome with the new engine, but now when you view enemies from a distance their face is highlighted with darker textures which makes them easier to spot through a scope or binos DFBHD is a cheesy cash in on the movie, and its longevity will be unlike OFP, but multiplayer is where the game excells purely for the kickass, fast action games you can find yourself in @ Novaworld, even if you have a 56k modem
peanuckle_00 0 Posted April 9, 2003 You know from what you guys say about the DF:BHD demo, I think that the civillian AI in ofp should be different than the combat AI. Maybe this would lead to less processor usage. I think that the AI and the processor power required to make them all act realistic is what allows the game to be able to have so many different characters on the map at a time. If my guess is correct then dumber AI causes less lag and better game performance. So maybe, just maybe, if the civillian AI used less processing power than the combat AI you could spare some processor power that could be used for other things like more people on the map or more combat units, etc. That's just a guess or a thought. Correct me if I'm wrong.
PFC Mongoose 0 Posted April 9, 2003 I believe that's right... it makes sense because you can adjust how much processor time AIs in BF1942 use (I can't really play with it, much, the game runs like crap if I raise it above 15%, and the default is 20% I think)
DarkLight 0 Posted April 9, 2003 Also something that is a lot better is the way the enemy aimes, in the other DF series you could stand before an enemy, wait for 5 seconds (while he is shooting at you) and then shoot a bullet through the guy's head. All that without getting hit, at least if you were a bit lucky, most of the time, the enemies shoot in the sand before your feet. In BHD this has changed a lot, enemies still can't shoot very accurate but at least they do hit you more often...
Blaegis 0 Posted April 9, 2003 I just downloaded the BHD demo, and it was totally unplayable. The framerate was 2-4 fps in 640x480 with all the detail turned to low!! It's kinda odd, because my OFP runs smoothly in 1024x768 rez with nearly all detail on full. Is it just me, or the game developers never bother to optimize the code anymore? Tex -USMC- 0 Posted April 9, 2003 Here's what i dont get. When I played the demo, oustide environments were silky smooth. Even when I was being charged by a swarm of technicals, everything was not only playable, but downright pleasent. But as soon as I went indoors, the framerate went to hell. And the insides of buildings aren't even good looking- they're pretty ugly in fact. Does this happen in the full version to anyone?
