IceFire 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Ok, I went out and bought some more rams for my computer yesterday. I had 128 rams. Now I have a total of 640 rams. Here are all my current specs. It's a Compaq presario. Microsoft Windows ME, Intel[R] Pentium[R] 4 CPU 1700 MHz 640MB RAM Direct X 8.1 I think the video card is a GeForce 2 MX(but I'm not sure) My cousing installed all the rams, and he said he also did a "defrag" on my harddrive. He said that would make it be faster. Anyways, after he left and all was done, I tried playing Operation Flashpoint. I played the single player mission ambush. I dunno if it was my imagination or my computer was really alot smoother and the graphics seemed more crisp. I dunno. My question is on what settings can I run operation flashpoint now? I have yet to play the Resistence game yet because I figured my computer was too choppy before, or I am just a perfectionist. I have the game of the year edition, and I have the view distance at about I guess 900. I want to put it up to 2000. Please tell me what I should do. And if you want me to tell you exactly what my graphics card is, please tell me how to find out.
FSPilot 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Well RAM isn't measured in "rams" it's measured in megabytes. What type of RAM is it? And what are you planning on doing with your computer. I assume OFP. Thing is a 500mhz PC would be great for emails, but not OFP.
OxPecker 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Thats a lot of rams dude! You should get some ewes as well, so the rams have something to do. Incidentally, Windows ME is possibly the worse OS ever.

So that's what I got. And where did I say anything about "500 mhz PC"?? Didn't I say I have a 1700 MHz PC? Plus now I have 640 MB RAM.

Col. Kurtz 0 Posted February 24, 2003 I think it would be safe to turn up your view distance to 2000. I used to have my view distance up around 2000 with my Athlon 1.2gig, 256mb DDR Ram, Geforce 2 MX400 right without too much trouble.

Your gfx card is out dated especially when compared to the rest of your system, MX cards are the lower end of the scale and this will be the bottleneck in your system. 2. Computer systems vary a great deal even if the specs seem similar, do you have all the latest drivers for everything? Do you have things tweaked? Really the best way to find out what your system can do is to try it, play for a while, increase the resolution and graphic settings, eventually you'll reach a point where it slows down so then you know what it can do
Commander-598 0 Posted February 24, 2003 I typed this using "Speak and Spell". But seriously: Dell Dimension Pentium 4 2.40 Ghz 512MB PC1066 RDRAM 7200 RPM 120GB HD 128MB ATI Radeon 9700 TX
lee_h._oswald 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Best and cheapest way to boost your OFP is to buy a GF4MX460 or better a GF4Ti4200. And as Oxpecker said, ME is worst OS ever! MfG Lee [edit] Better buy this one:

Assault (CAN) 1 Posted February 24, 2003 I guess it's time to update my graphics card then. I just 'upgraded' to the GF2 400mx. Â Â The rest of my system should be good for another year before a serious upgrade is needed. Edit: Oh yeah: [*] AMD 1700+ (@1.42Ghz) CPU [*] K7AMA mother board [*] 164mb of DDR RAM And so on........ Any application on NT/2000/XP/.NET that creates more than one thread can automatically be scheduled to run on more than one physical or logical processor unless the PAM (Processor Affinity Mask) prevents it. I used to run a dual-PIII at home, and OFP used both CPUs, although not very symetrically.
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted February 25, 2003 You can get more info on your video card by: 1.Select "Run" 2.Type in  "dxdiag" (without the quotes) 3.Hit enter, and then it will display about your system it self, and to see info on your video card, just select the tab "Display". It'll give you alittle more detail.Plus some test you can do.
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted February 25, 2003 Also, you can run more detailed test on your computer, just go to http://www.pcworld.com  , select "Tools", and select "Measure and boost performance".You can also do diffrent test, such as internet speed test etc... But just let the test finish, and then you can view any problems with your computer.
Jinef 2 Posted February 25, 2003 I decided to get a new PC and i got it with Win XP home. Damn i hate the user modes in that - Â i have to log off and go into 'administrator' mode to delete a file ffs! I liked 98 even though it was as slow as shit compared to XP. Does anyone know how to make win XP less 'user friendly'? Also i tried the benchmark 2003 thingy and it was suprisingly slow but i heard that Nvidia cards don't like it for some reason. But the wings of fury vid was cool and of course 'educational'!
