I mean 80% won't defect and so there will be no 20% you speak of.

I think quite a lot would defect. Don't know about 80% but I don't think you're looking at the same North Korea of the 1950s.

A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite. Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone. "Hear that?" you say. "That's dynamite, baby."

Unless they reply "Can you hold for a minute?"

We can very well object to it. Why should we negotiate with North Korea? Obviously to avoid a Nuclear Showdown, but why should we let them extort aid in exchange for them shutting down a nuclear program they started in violation of international treaties anyway? If push comes to shove a US led coatlition will swiftly beat the ill supplied North Korean forces. "Chonger" must be smoking some wacky weed, b/c even the Chinese are distancing themselves.

Right, the U.S. will defeat Iraq, NK, and fight in Afghanistan at the same time... who else? China?

Thats an uninformed statement.

I dont think anyone here be it Euro or American is cheering on the whackos in NK. I think a lot of people around here are pointing out that the leader of a certain nation has embarked on a course that other nations are pointing to now and saying 'Hey, if he can do it so can we!'

Don't take it out of context. Jokes aren't worth it if you have to explain them.

The point of a Korean war is not whether we can win or not, because we can militarily defeat NK even with their immense manpower advantage. The point is that any war would effectively destroy South Korea's cities, infrastructure, everything, not to mention the incredible number of SK civilian casualties. We could win, but the price would be so high that noone would be willing to pay it.

Ironically,  we are at this point with NK not because of Bush but because of appeasers like Clinton, Carter, and Mad Albright for capitulating to obvious brinksmanship. They crumbled under such simplistic blackmailing so now we give them more aid than any other country in the world, all the while being threatened with nuclear strikes from the very same!

No, you are at this point since Bush declared North Korea as a member of the so-called "Axis of Evil". North Korea is seeing right now what happens to another member of the "Axis of Evil". NK hears Bush talking about "Americans being the blessed people whose responsibility it is to fight the evildoers in the world"

Bush has made direct threats. NK only uses his own "pre-emptive strike" doctrine back at him.

LOL.. calling them the 'axis of evil' is a direct threat worthy of a nuclear annihiliation? brilliant! what proportionality there.

I can't say I'm all that bothered by NK parroting US policy. It's almost as if an 8 year old was in charge of their diplomacy. Instead of concentrating on substantive policy, they focus on playing word games and practicing brinksmanship. Oh well, fuckit. It makes for great television (I love watching the conservatives on FOX get their backs up when they report something like this: "Did you just hear what they said?! Well I never!"), and we just might get an opportunity to kill that son of a bitch Kim Jong-Il while we're at it.
