Ac-130 gunship

Recommended Posts

Would an AC-130 Gunship be possible in OFP? If so I think it would be very useful in the game. Oh go on, some one must want to make it. Its a pity there is no way to fund an Addons collective... biggrin.gif

sure its possible the guns cant flex or anything, and cant fire at once. .but it would be possible to orbit around a city and blow the hell out of it. . just nt very accuratly

Would it be possible? Because I'm under the impression that all weapons on fixed-wing aircrafts will point straight forward. I hope I'm wrong! smile.gif

I'm just curious if anyone has even tried to do this...

Quakergamer along time ago made a very crude looking AC130 that he never released, but I don't know if he ever got it to fire anything to the side. I've been trying to get someone to try working on it for the longest time but so far nobody has tried it seriously. They would just need to modify Adammo's (Cpt. Moore's) C-130 addon. At any rate I hope someone at leasts tests the sideways gun idea. If it was made where the aim dot was visible through the side window then it might be possible for the pilot to aim the weapons by simply turning the aircraft. The AI probably wouldn't be able to fire very well, but at least human pilots could use it for MP games.

i think teh only problem that SHOULD occur in making this would be teh AI being able to fire it. . . they arent programed to fire sidways. . .but other then that it should be possible

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't they use the C-130 in Vietnam with side mounted mini guns? This could be done with AI even. It is done with the choppers.

Well one time I never made the memory lod for my Colt Commando, and if you don't make that then the gun fires sideways. I armed a soldier with it, and he used it correctly. smile.gif

Did I hear some one say stimulate the addon makers?

I wonder if they (addon makers) are drooling yet!?

Im correcting u then. Choppers and Planes in the game are of two different classes in the config. The chopper config includes the ability to have a gunner and the plane doesnt.full stop.

I realize that fixed wing and choppers are in different class. All I am saying is if it can be done in choppers some fine mod maker should be able to figure it out. It is not a full stop. Couldn't the config be modified to allow for a gunner?! confused.gif

it isnt made in the config, its made in the simulations, which are hard coded, so we cant do a thing about it

Thanks for the clarification. Some one will try and figure out a way to "CHEAT" and make it work. I hope.

Hehehe...yeah there's a gunner in them... but the guns don't move. That part is hard-coded into the airplanes. It's like the boats not being able to fire missiles. Now with boats (and to a lesser extent ground vehicles) you can attach other addons to them using a script. However the item must be right in the middle of the vehicle or else whe the vehicle or ship turns the gun will stick out to the side. I've used this script to put .50 cal machine guns on the Humvees.

However...it doesn't work with aircraft because when the airplane turns...the addon attached to it doesn't which means in a sharp turn the weapons would be sticking out of the roof of the aircraft or the floor of the aircraft.

The only alternative is a sideways facing, fixed gun system.

That is assuming that you can position a cannon facing sideways on an aircraft. Can someone with some O2 knowledge please test this out and then tell us if it's possible?

Please?

Here's something I've been thinking of playing with.

The following is from the 1.90config file for the class Plane: Air

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">

minGunElev=0;

maxGunElev=0;

minGunTurn=0;

maxGunTurn=0;

weapons[]={"MachineGun12_7","MaverickLauncher"};

magazines[]={"MachineGun12_7","MaverickLauncher"};

<span id='postcolor'>

I think if you were to set the Guns to the following, it might just work.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">

minGunElev=-30;

maxGunElev=-10;

minGunTurn=-45;

maxGunTurn=-135;

weapons[]={"MachineGun30W","Gun105"};

magazines[]={"Bullet30W","Shell105"};

<span id='postcolor'>

Something to play with guys.

Even Suma admitted that gun positions WITH MOVABLE TURRETS cannot be implemented, I wanted them on my B17, but it doesnt work.

Well, as far as I know, the original Dakota gunship (DC-3) mounted three 7.62 miniguns (fixed mount) firing out the left side of the aircraft, occupying the first three passenger windows above the wing. Sights started out as nothing more than a rod extending from the left wing leading edge, and a ring or mark on the left windscreen. I'm not sure of the sighting system on the C-130, but both versions turn a tri-level tropical forest into an instant salad. wink.gif

aint no lie

That's fine and all, but right now, the technical difficulties need to be overcome on a test model (like the BIS Cessna or Adammo's C130) before any gunships can be made. The sighting systems on the AC-130 by the way are all via cameras, AG radars, and thermal imaging equipment.

But I'd be happy with almost any sighting system for the weapons if an AC130 can be made.

To Dragofire: Do you think from you tests that some type of gunship will be feasible? If so someone should really jump on this because it would really make for an INCREDIBLE addon!!!

Plus there is already a good C130 addon by Adammo that can be modified so the addon wouldn't have to be made from scratch. I really hope that someone pursues this further.

Ok im from the F15E party... You cant have turrets on a plane it doesnt work ;( but of course there is a way... Someone made a script i remember where it would just setpos a mg on the back of a cessna simulating the gunner i guess that would work for now. you could even setpos multiple gunner spots if you wanted- one gunner for each weapon.

Can anyone confirm this? I thought I remembered hearing about a Cessna like that but I've never seen it. I always thought the AC-130 problem could be solved with some clever scripting and/or config writing... But it definately needs to be solved! Somebody please HELP us!!!

Well. I'm totally a clueless idiot about scripts ,and to prove it here's my idea. Someone made a script that makes weapons fire/missles appear out of nowhere. Could that script be made to have weapons fire coming from the side of an aircraft? Yep I'm an idiot. tounge.gif
