Well Tiberian Sun sucked, but Red Alert 2 was terrific, plus this game is a bit more to the realism side, since it's not lightyears in the future like the others.

Up untill this last weekend I thought the Red Alert-series was an okay point'n'click strategy game. 'Okay' because of its sci-fi elements. This last weekend I tried Empire Earth coop over LAN. Only tried the epoch "Modern -Atomic Age", but that game kicks Westwood's ass smile.gif

Only real elements and no sci-fi:

Apache w/mgun

Apache w/missiles

F117

F15

B2

B-52 with a Nuke wow.gif (extremely cool mushroom, my fav.)

Leo2A2

Abrams

and many more cool units

You forgot the aircraft carriers with F-14 Tomcats tounge.gif

And try viewing the mushroom from the ground by using mouse scroll up wink.gif

Cool, have'nt thought of that. Will do that when I get home tounge.gif

I rarely use the scroll-function as I don't see the situation around me with it.

Yeah, a buddy of mine which I played with this weekend sent two full carriers (2x20 Tomcats) to support my squad of 10 B-52's quite often biggrin.gif

Me too. I swore never to spend money for a Westwood game. Wait until they find lots of AI bugs in Generals, like the stupid ore collectors in all the other C&C games. tounge.gif

Empire Earth rocked but if you want a true modern strategic RTS go for the old harpoon series! It's simply the best of the best! I can't wait till Harpoon 4 goes out!

Fleet Command also rocked over all RTS IMO.

No gamey rules. Just the real life possibilites of warfare!

I'll check out C&C Generals as it looks pretty good. I probably wont play it long before I get sick of having to shoot tanks fives times with a AT wepons before they die, but C&C games are generally pretty OK.

dont have to worry about that, there isn't gona be anymore ore mining. instead what happens is that the Americans w/ deploy a chinook that will go to building or somekind of pick-up point and get supplies and bring them back to base and will become reveneu to spend. the chinese will use a supply truck and the GLA will use human labor.

I love how they think that the average gamer has money to buy an uber-rig everytimg they come out with a game. I'm sorry Westwood, i simply don't have the greenbacks to dishout for a new system everytime a game that uses "new technologies" comes out.

Total BS

the thing that I liked about command and conquer and red alert 1 was its realism. the thing that i didnt like about tiberian sun and red alert 2 was the fact that they werent that realistic. eg. fighting robots and tanks that turn into trees.

My brother was getting generals yesterday, and it looks very good

One thing I dont like about generals is the symeteric maps for tourny play and stuff. There are no "real" looking maps like in the old ones were you had to use strategy. This one is just make a massive army and attack the enemy.

For tourney play, a completely symetrical map is a MUST.

Why?

Because if you make a map that isnt totally symetrical, some smeg head whill whine and complain that the non symetrical bits are what caused him to lose. If you make the map completely symetrical, then no one can complain that one side has an unfair advantage.

I am going to buy this one, cuz it looks pretty cool!

But I am going to wait to play a demo first wink.gif

I dont have a problem w/ the maps like that, but all of them? I mean come on, were is the fun in that. And there is no map maker so you cant make your own. Maybe someone will make a 3rd party map maker like in RA2

I havent played it yet..

Is it only the MP maps? Because IMNSHO, all MP maps should be symetrical. If they arent, you get some little bitch moaning that he only had one resource patch available in the start of the game, or that the spur of a mountain blocked him, but wasnt there on your base etc etc etc.

I already hate the maturity level of a lot of online players...why give them any other reasons to whine... no?

I cant wait for Generals. I thought Ra2 and Yuri's revenge were the best RTS games ever created. This game is going to be a beast though, and my pentium3 866 mhz w/ 256 megs of ram is going to explode after about two minutes of play.
