Jester983 0 Posted January 14, 2003 I personally think its time to see a new military show. Sorta like MASH or something. And less of these dating shows. I mean does the public really look down on the military or something? What do you guys think? And if we did have a new military show what should it be about? I think it should be about Stories from soldiers in all different sorts of war. Lets hear some ideas.

FSPilot 0 Posted January 14, 2003 The history channel just did one, sorta. They followed some recruits through boot camp. They also do "mail call" with R. Lee Ermey, which is more entertaining than I can explain.
red oct 2 Posted January 15, 2003 there was this one US army military show in OH. they where having an Open house, don't remember where it was think it may have been a recruiting center i duno but the real attraction was that they were showing a M1A1 Abrams and could watch it crush a car. at one point i guess they were gona offer rides on it, but because of liability reasons they scribbled the feature out. i really wanted to go to it and watch the tank, but i had to go to work

Akira 0 Posted January 15, 2003 There used to be a really cool show on the USA Network called Combat Missions. Think of it as Survivor meets the Military. There were I think 6 teams to start with, members comprising people from the SEALs, SWAT, Rangers, etc etc. Each show they would start with "team exercises" ie knock the other team off their rafts first or what have you. Basically P.E. type stuff. Based on results each team would get points. But the last part of each show was the best. The two teams would be assigned a "mission" ie rescue downed pilot, clear a building, etc. The teams would come up with their own plans. They would be choppered into the area and left to complete their mission (which was also timed). They used the laser system the Army uses for their war games. Naturally there would be an "opposing force". Points were assigned based on time, how many members survived, whether objectives were completed etc. At the end of the show the points were awarded. The loser had to vote a member of the team off leaving them a man short, but still required to complete the same missions. Was a damn good show.

PHY_Hawkeye 0 Posted January 15, 2003 Be nice to see a well done military drama or comedy. I guess there's a lack of them because of the cost of doing that type of show right. Does anyone rember that one a while ago about British peacekeepers in Bosnia; it centred around a Warrior crew but I can't rember the name. Anyway it was quite good. I guess we'll have to settle for old M*A*S*H re-runs for the time being. For those in the U.K. who are interested there is a second series of 'Ultimate Force' airing on ITV sometime between May and August this year. Edit: Almost forgot, M*A*S*H Weekend this weekend on Paramount. 20 episodes from the first fire series.
Jester983 0 Posted January 15, 2003 Has anyone Watched that show J*A*G? Its on USA. Its also a military show but i think sorta like top gun in tv show format.
FSPilot 0 Posted January 15, 2003 I've seen it, didn't really care for it. It does have promise though, as those legal shows like NYPD blue and OSI are pretty popular.

Longinius 1 Posted January 15, 2003 "Has anyone Watched that show J*A*G? Its on USA. Its also a military show but i think sorta like top gun in tv show format." Ah yes, they night-blind top laweyer who also can double as a Special Forces operative Tom Cruise from "A few good men" + Tom Cruise from "Top Gun" + Charlie Sheen from "Navy SEALS". Its so realistic and fun! ;-P
Jinef 2 Posted January 15, 2003 TV + Military = Bad TV never represents anything accurately and just entertains myths which might be good viewing but are annoying when people take it as a truth.

Assault (CAN) 1 Posted January 15, 2003 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The history channel just did one, sorta. Â They followed some recruits through boot camp. Â They also do "mail call" with R. Â Boot Camp was fun to watch, I saw it just after I finished my basic/advanced training and I laughed my ass off. I almost felt sympathy for those guys, but not for the two who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a bucket of shit if they were standing right next to it. They were horrible shots, and the U.S. Army marksmenship test is easy compared to the Canadian one, IMO. Does anyone watch those old episodes of 'Tour of Duty'? I felt they covered alot of issues really well and the combat scenes were well done with a show of that budget. I also liked it because it usually stayed away from excessive 'flag waving' garbage. I would like to see a new military series, but real ones, not like JAG or anything. Sure Catherine Bell is gorgeous, but the show is crap. I want a show with realistic combat scenes and it shouldn't be too political, it should cover issues faced by modern soldiers, such as underfunding, human rights, and so on. Tyler [edit] By 'political' in that last paragraph, I meant overly nationalistic. (Americans take note) No one needs a "we are the best *insert noun here* in the world" show.
