Hostage situation in stockholm

Recommended Posts

A Russian speaking man went into a Forex place (money exchange place) at Stockholm Central

(subways, trains, busses) and took 2 women as hostages Saturday around 8.30 pm local time.

A little before 9 pm one of the two women was released, she wasn't hurt, just shocked.

Five minutes to 1 am four heavily armed police men entered the Central.

The man hasn't asked for anything yet, which the police force finds weird, and he took the women

as hostage pretty quick, as if he wasn't there for money.

Big area shut off, lots of police, ambulances, fire trucks, etc.

Fortunately they evacuated the entire building in time, so he got only two hostages (one right now). It would be bad though if he blew up the central station. confused.gif

The role of the police is not to kill criminals, but to apprehend them for prosecution in a court of law.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to use deadly force to protect the lives of innocents, but so far this guy hasn't made any threats or demands, so it would be premature and irresponsible to take his life.

Nothing new now. Gotta confess I love to see the Swedish national special police force guys..

But the hostage taker seems calm, don't you think? He released an old lady after approx 20 min., he doesn't threat anyone, etc. Although he [claims he] has a bomb attached to his vaist.. Hm.. Dunno...

If they do come to such a decision, and he has explosives, they better hope he dosen't have a dead man's trigger.

He's walking around with explosives around his belly <span id='postcolor'>

The justified use of deadly force has three prerequisites:

1. Opportunity

2. Ability

3. Intent

Whether any of these requirements are met at this point is debatable.

The most important objective at this point is to secure the safety of the remaining hostage. A secondary objective is to apprehend the suspect. Killing the suspect should only be a worst-case outcome, but never the goal -- not only does that violate all ethical and legal obligations, but it could potentially keep us from learning why the suspect took his actions, and keep us from preventing similar events in the future.

There's a hell of a difference between getting "ur fingers slapped" and having your brains blown out.

I know you are more level-headed than you appear at the moment. You made a comment that was caused by raw emotions and anger, but that doesn't mean that you have to ride this train-wreck all the way to the bottom of the ravine.

Ok, glad this is over. I was worried this was the bank place that my Forty Million dollars from Nigeria was being stored at just waiting for my pickup after I fax over my social security card and a blank check.

Seriously though, it's good to see the situation resolved like this.

biggrin.gif Didn't i read that on SomethingAwful? tounge.gif

On Topic:

Someone was telling me about this when it was happening. Needless to say i was intrigued, being human and all. Its always good to see things like this end peacefully. And whoever said it before, it does sound like a failed robbery attempt.
