Cloney 0 Posted November 15, 2002 I tried it an already don't like it, it feels like an FPS. It doesn't have the same mood as Rouge Spear and I'm not really into very fast paced game play. It looks a lot like America's Army so Its nothing spectacular unless you've been living under a rock for a few months. The lack of Iron Sights and the gun in First Person kills it for me. Zooming is like your neck stretched 6 inches and you are now closer to your gun. WTF? I thought it would be cool but I definitley won't be buying it unless the single player is fucking spectacular. The MP mode looks like it's gonna attract a lot of l337 d00dz...
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted November 15, 2002 fuck... goddam Fileplanet shorted out when I was 5 minutes from d/ling- now I and 1013th in line
USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 15, 2002 Cloney: OFP also has the zooming thing, just press right mouse button! Who needs iron sights when its all CQB and not long range, iron sights are for aiming and the crosshair is good enough for that job in CQB fighting (ingame, that is). I personally think its an amazing game, great graphics, sound, physics, detail, everything nearly. Only bug I experienced was the sound looping bug, but they still have a lot of time to fix that. Then again, remeber the first OFP demo? That had more bugs than a termites mound and really wasnt that great, did not blow me away.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted November 15, 2002 RS has some scope sights, but that's it. if i remember correctly, RS makers decided to leave iron sights off because it could kill "fun" part.

USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 16, 2002 I didnt buy OFP becasue of the buggy demo, I bought it because it was the cheapest game I could find that was new at EB, and guess what I found one of the best games ever! I really cannot understand why you hate the Raven Shield demo, its a blast to play if you find a good server, the graphics are at least 5 times better than resistance's, the weapons are great, etc. (I already mentioned this stuff) I find it strange that people say they were blown away by the demo, fortunately my computer barely ran it at the time and I only played a bit of it, because I would not have bought it if I played more. (I downlaoded the demo again when I got my new PC earlier this year, about June, to compare it with 1.46)

(I downlaoded the demo again when I got my new PC earlier this year, about June, to compare it with 1.46)<span id='postcolor'> Multiplayer in Ravenshield isn't even close to how good multiplayer is in Resistance. Nothing beats co-op with a group of your buddies in OFP... NOTHING... I don't think i said I 'hated' it but I may be wrong. Still, what is RS? Counter-Strike with 'realistic' weapons? Running around in the same building shooting people is boring. I love being able to shoot a BMP, assault a base, shoot up a convoy, then catch a chopper home when the sky gets dark. Sorry you cant do that in Raven Shield! Maybe you can't do CQB in Raven Shield but I find that the OFP engine is much less limiting and the game itself is much more interesting. I like 'thinking' games, not a game where whoever pumps the most bullets into the other guy wins....

Its great fun to play in a team that uses teamwork. Move slowly, cover each other, one open the door and another throw in a flashbang, and so on. It's a great CQB sim.  About bugs, I haven’t seen any so far…guess I’m lucky. But I have to agree with you Cloney that nothing beats CO-OP with some friends in OFP

You think it's free? I think they have a pretty solid business structure and offer a lot of insentives to people who choose to subsribe. They got exclusive rights to the demo until the 28th. So what? Good business really. They've worked hard to build their business and are now protecting it. COLINMAN
Major Fubar 0 Posted November 16, 2002 Because they make you go through a bullshit signup process before you can download anything, and their connections are generally terrible, and files are often missing. Sure, they host a lot of stuff, but plenty of sites host demos and other large files without making you sign up to download it. It won't be long before they want you to pay for the privilege. And I don't like this whole "exclusive rights to the demo" stuff either...that's not what demos are for. IMHO, Ubisoft are hurting themselves by doing this, because less people will see their demo early on. It's just a personal opinion, but I know plenty of people who feel the same. Col. Kurtz 0 Posted November 16, 2002 I reckon Gamespy purposely make sure that the download ques are always full to force people into paying. Just like in Gamespy Arcade how they throw ads at you everytime you click a button. Back on topic. I juts took the demo for a quick spin on my own, graphics look pretty good even on my Sthlon 1.2gig and GF2 MX400. The weapons look pretty cool, but the fact that they all seem to ahve the same muzzle flash is disturbing.
Balschoiw 0 Posted November 16, 2002 Just played some rounds in internet. The gfx are average, nothing special. The levels by now look very "rectangular". Lag is an issue. I did shoot guys, but no shot came out of my gun. It is just like the shoot trigger is synchronized with Inet data transfer. Very strange. Also if more than 8 people are visibly moving within a room the game starts to stutter. Gameplay is FPS-like. Nothing special. The weapons are good, but not overwhelming. Yes I know OFP is something completely different. I don´t like to be fenced into small levels. No option for me in the long term.
USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 16, 2002 You think the graphics are nothing special? WHat were you expecting, Doom 3 graphics? Let me tell you that these graphics are WAY, WAY better than anything OFP will ever have, the textures are better, more polys, more special effects (lightmaps, environmental mapping, etc.) OFP has none of the special effects here, If your saying these graphics suck than you're saying OFP has the graphics of Duke 3d. Â Â I do hope that they fix the muzzle flashes being the same, I think that the G36 has a circle muzzle flash, but a very small one, and the ak series should have circle flashes but very big ones. I love how you can put scopes on your guns tho, in the full game I think there will be laser pointers and stuff like that! Â Also, I played on servers with 15 others and I had no lag, maybe a ping of 100 at the highest. And I have cable! Just try and find a server with a small amount of ping.
