lexx 1392 Posted January 3, 2016 Hey folks, question is in the title. Is it possible to change the size of a model via script or config file? I want to change a few of the scenery objects, but I don't actually want to change the model file itself. In worst case, is it possible to hex-edit the size of a model in the p3d file? Thanks in advance.
PuFu 4600 Posted January 3, 2016 it cannot be done. hex editing is also a big no no these days
NightIntruder 710 Posted January 3, 2016 Actually, you may do this by introducing animations along X,Y,Z axis in model.cfg and then being called from a config, or external script they can change the size of the object, I think. You have to have an access to the source model but apparently this is not the case, right?
lexx 1392 Posted January 3, 2016 Nope, it's official BIS model. With a bit research I could probably figure out how to get around the binarized files, but I'd like to not do this, if possible.

lexx 1392 Posted January 3, 2016 Well, it's not like it would do harm to anyone. In fact, being a little more open with it might even increase the chance of more cool stuff to happen (just imagine a *real* coil-tank, for example. Which actually really isn't hard to create if you have the sources). Anyway, I might be able to workaround my issue with a few tricks here and there (using custom texture), but it's far from the best approach. I really just need the damn half-transparent rings from the helicopter DLC in different sizes and a plastic 3D effect looks always better than a simple 2D plane. Then make them in O2, those seem like fairly simple requests. As to the "not like it would harm anyone" defence...Good luck using that in court when BI/other devs sue you for altering their stuff. lexx 1392 Posted January 4, 2016 Well, if I could do them easily, I would have done it already. PS: I never heard of anyone getting sued over modding a game. That probably would be seriously bad marketing on the developer side.

Deal with it.

Jackal326 1181 Posted January 4, 2016 BI take someone to court? Pfft. Slightly ironic name, given the coversation topic...
