The sniper saga

Seems to me this all started only a short while after the "Sniper School" patch was released for America's Army, thus it's all their fault smile.gif

A spy plane might help cathc the sniper, but really, what do you expect? Unless the plane is equiped with special equipment that can read peoples minds, it would be a bit hard to find the sniper. There would be hundreds of people with white vans in the area, and no end of people with guns since its America. Unless the plane was lucky enough to spot the sniper walking down the street with a rifle in his hands, I wouldnt expect much.

The spy planes were supposed to focus in on gunshots.  So he would shoot, the spy planes would find him.

not funny man, not funny. mad.gif

This guy or guys, is/are smart.

It is shrewd to use multiple vehicles, and to have one shooter+driver. But what weapons use 5.56? AR-15, what else?

The AR-15 is purchaseable, as long as it was made before 1994 when a ban on assault weapons was passed.

Many people say that this string of brutal murders is a reason to track the unique marking each gun leaves on a weapon. Surely these people realize that a file on the barrel can change this in a few minutes.

All gun control laws have their roots in preventing the populace from revolting. In the UK, it was to disarm union member and socialists. In the 1700s in Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi banned weapons to cement his rule. I'm not saying that gun control laws are always to prevent change, but that is where their origins are for. BTW, 5.56 rounds are good for target shooting. Or self defense.

In the UK, people have defended themselves from criminals and been sent to prison. An elderly man was sentenced to life after fatally shooting one burglar and injuring another. He had been robbed five times. If live across the pond, just home noonve ever threatens you or your property...cuz there's nothing you can do.

meant to add this in my last post but forgot-

Anyone who has played OFP can tell you it's harder to hit targets that move laterally rather than vertically-moving ones.

So of course this wannabe sniper is going after ppl at gas stations- all they do is move theire arms, but not really their heads or torsos.

Audie Murphy, that's really tasteless! mad.gif

Also, the two planes that were assigned to help track the sniper are not capable of tracking gunshots or pinpoint their origin.

One of the planes is a military version of the Beech King Air, the other is a RC-7 equipped with FLIR and electronic sensors. The former plane is for transporting top-level investigators, and the second is supposed to help track a potential getaway vehicle or the sniper himself through his body heat.

Right, to confirm what SFG said:

Man wounded

Not confirmed wether this latest attack, which has left a man in a serious condition is the work of the DC sniper.

Hmmm, another wounded.

If this is the DC sniper, and he is trying to kill people, he's/she starting to lose his touch.

Isn't this whole sniper thing an overreaction considering that on average homicide rate is 250 cases/year in DC?

Chill brought up a similar question also and I will answer along the same lines.

For this case lets say husband for whatever reason shoots his wife, tragic, he goes to jail.

It might get a little coverige on TV(but with so many shootings over there, probably not), but not much will be fought of it. Here, here we have someone who has an entire state in fear. The sniper/killer has moved around an area striking down targets at will. He hasnt been caught. He's/she still at large, he/she is still killing. People fear that next time they go to a gas station etc. the might be the next target.

When someone gets annoyed with another person and kills them, as long as you have no relation to the killer, you dont really fear them.

For awhile I thought the sniper was a cop , either on duty or off but not a wanna be.   As some tactics like shutting down major highways should stop your average killer but not this guy.    Has anyone tried to use GTA3 as a test model?  Yeah I know not very realistic, but I wouldn't wanna test a theory any other way.

Drive to a spot on the map and don't get in any accidents.  Stop an hide your car and pick a target , shoot and take off without making a scene.    In real life your escape routes might be closed off unlike the game.  And with people calling in every gun shot it would be a big gamble.  I failed eveytime as fender benders are common in that game.

And one other thing I thought about, isn't there a boltaction rifle that uses an AR-15 barrel and mags?  I saw it in a gun mag it was called a CAM rifle.  It wouldn't be hard at all to hide in a car or van.  Cut down a little bit, and it could be hid on a person.

I hope they catch and kill whoever is doing it.      The knee jerk assholes are already circling above ,ready to impose gun laws that can be circumvented by a few grains of sand(barrel tracing)or a file(firing pin tracing).

Anyone else still on about how great a shot this guy is?

BTW, here's hoping that this guy's next victim is Wolf Blitzer.

Well in a way, but actually if they nab this 1 or 2 guys they think they can stop many future killings which seem to be random. Regular homicides usually involve 1 or 2 victims and stop there for a very long time, with this "SNIPER" (whatever) they are sure they have big trouble and can't predict who is next. smile.gif

Yeah, apparently the killers arranged a safe surrender for themselves. We'll see what the briefing gives us now.

EDIT: BS, they are not saying shit in the briefing... it must be top secret or something ridiculous like that. smile.gif

No, cause the shooting have been happening in Montgomery County Maryland too WHICH IS NOT DC.

Montgomery County is NOTHING like DC, and we resent being considered apart of them just because we are in the "DC AREA". DC is a good 45 minutes to an hour away on the highway taking 270 to the beltway.

Here we have nice houses and this is a really good suburban area and we are one of the richest counties in the US. We are not some poor ghetto trash in DC, which is in our backyard. And we do not have alot of murders.

So yes, this is very NOT normal for us even if it may be for the DC people.

What utter trash.......

But not unexpected.

That comment by that guy saying that if 'snipers' didn't have violence in their life, they wouldnt be violent, hehehhe, thats rediculess. I would say this killer is motivated by hate, not violence.

If you look at murders and killing spree's, most are caused by hate or insanity, not the craving for violence.

you can't boycott them if they refuse to sell the product in the first place. This sort of thing is par for the course here in America, give them a month or two and common sense will reestablish itself. Remember all the incredibly stupid shit that went on just following 9/11? Same concept, different tragedy.
