The sniper saga

this isn't the first time Wal-Mart is acting nuts.

When Sherryl Crow released an album containing phrase that depicts WalMart as the source of cheap bullets that kill, they refused to sell it.

on the topic. it seems like police are onto something with their attempts to speak to suspects. I really don't know what they are upto, but hopefully it will lead to closure of this trouble.

WAl-mat sucks anyways.I go to ebgames and gamestop to get my games.Wal-mart takes like a month to get a new game in ,and they don't have many copies of it.Also great thing about gamestop and ebgames ,you can return them if you don't like it and just get another game that you may like.

They have photos of people pumping their gas in the D.C. area and having the reporters write how scared and frightened they all are. C'mon. Give me a break. There's a couple of million people living in the D.C. area and this Sniper seems to shoot one person every 2 days or so. You have a better chance of winning the lottery, and clearly nobody is walking around all excited, smiling and making plans on how to spend the millions, so why exaggerate so much ? There's a much, much, much higher chance those folks will die in a car accident that day then get shot by a sniper. It's just a bad point of view in my opinion. I often hate media for doing things like these. "People here are terrified, afraid to walk home alone, and their children as well... This is Rob Atkins, back to you John"...

Sniper alert over French marksman

PARIS, Lyon --France has alerted Interpol about a crack military marksman who is missing in North America, prompting speculation over a link to a sniper who has killed nine people and wounded three in the Washington area.

The killings, which have taken place mainly around shopping centres since October 2, have baffled U.S. police and spread fear among Americans living in the area.

Police officers are trying to establish telephone contact with a messenger linked to the sniper, and on Monday arrested two men near the area from where the tipster rang authorities.

But neither man was charged and federal law enforcement sources said no evidence was found linking either man to the shootings.

story.saint.cyr.ap.jpg

The French deserter had been training to be a second lieutenant in the army at the prestigious Saint-Cyr, in Coetquidan in the northern coastal region of Brittany. The school provides general training in shooting but does not train elite sharp-shooters.

The Frenchman went to the U.S. and Canada for a holiday in August and was due to return to the academy for the resumption of classes at the beginning of September but failed to turn up.

A French defence ministry spokesman told Reuters that "at this stage, we have absolutely no certainty that this military deserter is the Washington sniper."

Interpol has been notified and a judicial investigation is beginning, both normal procedures, the spokesman Jean-Francois Bureau added.

He could not confirm media reports that the 25-year-old deserter, who has not been named, had been identified by fellow students from an unofficial police sketch of the sniper.

Bureau said French authorities were exchanging information with their U.S. counterparts.

The French soldier is known to be an excellent marksman, The Associated Press reported. The deserter has not been in contact with his family since he left for the U.S., Bureau said.

Francois Guillermet, spokesman for Saint-Cyr, said it was the first registered case of desertion in the school's 200-year history and the man's disappearance was a "complete mystery."

you obviously have a real grip on how terror tactics work.

you should go talk to those people over in maryland on how silly they are.

go solve the world's problems! (while you're still young and know everything.)

as far as the terror wave only being caused by the media...

umm i live up here. and while i don't goto school covered in kevlar, the fear is still quite real. true that we aren't all hiding whenever we go outside, but it's still scary. yeah the mathematical odds appear to be low--but it's sheer randomness, and that's what scares most people. it's better to not take your chances because you never know when your "lucky number" will get picked.

Ok, I have thought of a possible way this man chooses his targets, tell me what you think, but don't get all childish please. smile.gif

He seems to have a main theme of gas/fuel... people filling up their cars, usually minivans or SUV's (use lots), or a kid being driven to school in a car instead more efficient school bus, or a bus driver (or passenger) on a bus that sits idle (in that area many buses stay idle in morning). Most people he got also looked well nourished.

Really looks like he is punishing those who USE alot, fuel, food, etc. (mostly fuel I think) You know what I'm getting at?

Anyway, your suggestions on the target types are welcome. biggrin.gif

me too, I accuse the media for a lot of things. IT IS FACT that many of those murderers are striving for recognition. A little bit less NEWS coverage would change a lot. This is also why on 9/11 the planes were send at an interval of around 30 minutes, they wanted all cameras to point at the tower once the second one rams into it. You could say, well they werent pilots so the timing of when you would dive into the tower wasnt possible. But no, fact is that they had such a good knowledge of the schedules so they actually could have timed it better..but no..they wanted everyone to watch.

And look how irresponsible the media are...using helicopters to film every goddamn car-chase..even the dude on the bridge who committed suicide by putting a shotgun into his mouth. In the US that was shown live in the AFTERNOON. Totally irresponsible and little helpful.

It might be very unlikely that you would be shot, but in our area, in Fairfax county, the terror is VERy real. In fact, I saw some people bobbing and weaving going to there car, and the neighborhood I live in has FAR less people just taking a stroll.

Very possible, but why are they calling him a marksman? (I mean CNN)

Wonder how much "fitting" was made to the story for people to like it.

I agree with you, terror is not caused by the media, maybe what causes more fear after watching the media is that once you really know what's going on, you fear for your life. (which is a good thing in a situation like this)

Only advice I can give you is, be afraid when you think you should be, but do not panic. Think of actions to take depending on situation you may encounter, ie: I hear shot, I'm fine. I see the sniper taking aim. I'm pumping gas, what do I do to stay safe.

It's your life, you have a right to be afraid and plan. Panicking will not help anyone though.

Do you guys think it could be possible that it's not a pysco-sniper but maybe 2 terrorist's sent here to disrupt the D.C. area for a near future planned attack? Just think how much of a distraction this is right now for all the local agency's and not to mention the resorces being used up right now tring to track down the sniper....F.B.I. , A.T.F. ETC. are pumping alot of men and machinery(including milatary hardware )to search for the sniper. It could be a good diversion, couldn't it...Just my .02 worth.... confused.gif

Yea why not, but could a terrorist group pull this off? Could be 2 men for sure, but the note says 1 man. (Dear Mr. Policeman; I am God)

Well, they pulled off the Trade Center bombings...if they were trained by someone's milatary it would make sense that it's a 2 man operation...

Problem is everyone is vigilant now, looking hard for possible terrorists. Not like before WTC where media and authorities ignored threat. wink.gif

Looks like they got who they were after (from the above sotry).

Arrested them at a rest stop on I-70.

Be interesting where this goes. Says they found a note at the last shooting that had his stepsons fingerprints on it. They traced those prints to Williams and Tacoma, Washington. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I'd be scared too, i find it hard to believe that you really mean what you are saying.

Yeah of course, the chance that you are the one that gets shot is very small. But i bet all the people that got shot thought that the chance they'd get hit was very small too. Of course you can say that you probable won't get hit, and you probable are right too. But what if you aren't right?

I don't think people are overreacting, life isn't a game, you don't press the reset button after you get killed. When you are the unlucky bastard that meets one of this guy's bullets then it's just over, over and out. Tsk, it can all go so fucking fast.
