IceFire 0 Posted October 10, 2002 I think that OPF should give us knives. It would be nice if you wanted to be sneaky and get in that real silent kill. It would be like when we are sneaking around enemy territory and are sneaking along the wall of a building. An enemy soldier comes just around the corner. But you are ready with your KABAR or whatever soldiers use nowadays! You quickly stab him and take him out. Or you are sneaking around an enemy base all alone. You are hidding in a some bushes. An enemy comes passing by. You don't want to fire a shot, so you toss your knife at him and nail him in the throat. He dies without a sound and you are not compromised. Sounds good people? I think so. Maybe the BIS people will put in the GOTY edition if we tell them we really want this.

IceFire 0 Posted October 10, 2002 No they don't. OPF is realistic, meaning the enemys vision to spot you has to be realistic. Please stick to the topic about the knives here.
Grey Fox 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Knives are CQB and are useless at the common engagement range of 100m. If you kill something with it, it will be a friendly AI after you get pissed at him. We have pistols for such ranges and even then your lucky to get at hit beyond 50m in one of OFP's combat situations
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted October 10, 2002 no, he's serious. Try coming up behind a Russian grunt in the mission editor. Even in the dead of night with a Blackop, within about 5 feet, he'll turn around
IceFire 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Well then, in addition to the knife, BIS should fix that so that you can sneak around really stealthy without making noise so that you CAN sneak up on bad guys. Plus, you can always just get 5 feet to him, AND THEN RUSH HIM. He wont have time to shoot you.

Many times I've wanted to literally shoot the ruskie in the back of the head from point blank and it never succeeds. It's as if they have some sorta of physic ability within 2 metres. Major Fubar 0 Posted October 10, 2002 The main concern is that a knife would change OFP from a realistic combat sim to a FPS like counterstrike.

Or as alternative hand weapon for BlackOPs. You CAN sneak behind enemy guards as a BlackOP - you just have to be real slow (i.e. crawling on low speed so you wont breathe too loud - done that often enough). I doubt that the addition of knives could change OFP into a CS-like game - the long engagement ranges, and the usual 1 hit / 1 kill ratio would prevent that from happening. Usually you just won't have a chance to get in range without being shot to pieces first.

OPF is too realistic to let that happen. It would just be that you could only use your knife of rare circumstances where you happen to be real close to the enemy. You think you will be able to run up to an enemy standing 30 yards away and just cut him up like in CS??? Yeah right!!!!! Not when 1 or 2 AK rounds will drop you like THAT!! Gimme a break man, and stop trying to marr my idea!!
ran 0 Posted October 10, 2002 frankly what would be the use for the knife if you have to crawl to the back of a guard and stab him while you can have a silent mp5 burst from medium range ? knifes would be useless and : it's our right to cristicize your ideas
ran 0 Posted October 10, 2002 and : sneaking behind somebody while carrying full military gear is a little bit less easy than it seems .... canvas , plastic and steel make noise
DracoPaladore 0 Posted October 10, 2002 The bayonet I could see. But a knife would be just useless and rarely used in the game. Anyways, its bad enough some players on the internet shoot their own team mates. Now you want them to knife them?

Now you want them to knife them?<span id='postcolor'> Of course - so we can shoot the TK'ers before they have a chance to get more than one - remove all area effect weapons, as they are what TKers usually use. Damn BIS for including them at all!!! (attention: irony! ) Â I don't think knives/bayonets would be used often, but to include them would be a nice touch. Like the handguns, that most people love but rarely use at all. Soldiers have bayonets and can also use them as knives, SpecOps have knives, too. So why all the opposition to an idea that is quite reasonable, and that in no way can't ruin the game as many seem to fear? OFP is just too deadly and doesn't offer any magical power ups - so how should these weapons get abused? I don't see OFP having got to be like CS because of the handguns, and I don't see knifes how knives could have that effect either.
IceFire 0 Posted October 10, 2002 See, Joltan understands what I am trying to say. I not trying to make it like a main weapon. Just something for us all to have. Like just something to pull out if we see the situation is right. It wouln't mess up the game cause it wouln't be a good weapon to "head-on" assault enemies with. SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Play Soldier of Fortune II.There you have knives, and you can cut chunks out of there body.
IceFire 0 Posted October 10, 2002 That not what I'm saying. I think this should be included in OPF because OPF is realistic war sim. I mean, what not you all just play counterstrike?? Because hte game engine is more realistic here. If you don like it, just dont use the knife.
Jester983 0 Posted October 11, 2002 Personally Id prefer a Mp5 over a knife for silent take downs. I dont think its needed. Sure it would add more realism but im not so sure that it would work well with the engine. Awhile back someone made a knife addon and from what i heard it was useless. The only time I could see using it is maybe sneaking up on a sniper or something, but how often does that happen. I think for the time that it would take to get the knife to work correctly, something more usefull.

Balschoiw 0 Posted October 11, 2002 I am active quite a while now. We actually have a knife but I never used besides of can opening, Building works, Wirering and other "Mac Guyver" things. In attacks or missions it is never used. Barely I heard about it. Maybe it is with Musado, but in general this knife-heroe-silent stories are more for movies than for real.
