Mister Frag 0 Posted October 8, 2002 From http://www.reuters.com/news_ar....1542423 Man Dies in His Own Booby-Trapped House October 07, 2002 08:42 AM ET BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A Belgian man died of a gunshot wound after setting booby-traps throughout his house using hunting rifles and explosives, to police and local news reports said Sunday. The 80-year-old former chemical engineer had apparently set the traps to prevent his children from entering the house after a family dispute in the town of Aiseau-Presles near Charleroi, south of Brussels, the local Belga news agency said. Police, who had worked from before dawn searching and dismantling the traps, had yet to determine whether the man died from self-inflicted wounds or one of his own traps, it said. "(The traps are in) the whole house," a police officer told the RTBF television network. "It's very, very dangerous." They were set to go off with the opening of a door or some other makeshift trigger, the officer said.

Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted October 8, 2002 Did I say he got what he deserves? It is a sad story, but when a person does things like this and they get killed or hurt themselves they get what they asked for, not what thye deserved, but what they asked for.
Placebo 29 Posted October 8, 2002 Got what he asked for and got what he deserved are to my mind the same thing, or at the very least semantics. I would doubt that someone in a fit state of mind would do what he did, so are you saying he asked for dementia? or paranoia? or Alzheimer's or whatever else may have been wrong with him? To my mind the attitude we should be having is not one of laughter, not one of saying he got what he deserved (asked for) but one of hoping and praying that nothing like that happens to us, or those around us that we love, we all grow old, a lot of us will suffer some problems from old age, my Nan is 85, she has pretty bad dementia but nothing more serious than thinking I'm my Mum's brother and not her grandson. The old should be respected and treated with compassion, not ridiculed.
Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted October 8, 2002 To my knowledge he did not deserve what ahppend to him, but what ever it is it is a very very sad thing, as i have said before. I can see your point placebo, but still I can see......
Cloney 0 Posted October 8, 2002 I think DOR is changing what he said because he was yelled at. DOR, I say you keep your opinions instead of changing them to suit what other people. No offense to Placebo, because I agree with him completely, I just find it annoying that you are apologizing about your opinions then changing them to keep the P-Man happy. Makes you look a bit dumb. Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted October 8, 2002 I can see Placebo's point, and its a very good one. I do not change my opinion to make him happy, I still say the guy still got what he asked for by doing it, but if he was sick it is a different story, and sometimes you need somebody to point things out. RaptorAce 0 Posted October 9, 2002 If he was sick, I'll take back what I said, but I too think this guy was an idiot if he wasnt sick.
SirLoins 0 Posted October 9, 2002 Nothing in that story suggested anything wrong with this guys mind. Being stupid isn't a disease. If it is, there's a lot of sick people in the world. 80+ years old means nothing. My grandmother lived to be 98 and was sharp as a tack. This guy killed himself by his own means. I am glad it was him instead of an innocent bystander.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted October 9, 2002 "ye will reap what ye have sown, and if ye sow booby traps, dont be surprised when you get your face blown off." I read that somewhere...

Major Fubar 0 Posted October 10, 2002 And if some kids were doing it for a prank? Sorry, you can't justify lethal traps around your home with "home defence". The laws are quite specific about this.
