Marksmen DLC weapons in real life

Recommended Posts

I just noticed that many users aren't so excited with Marksmen DLC weapons as they think they are some fictional weapons, but most aspects of them are real, except some minor modifications in caliber, buttstock and barrel.

There were at least 3 weapons in first pictures before arma 3 alpha release, but we never saw them, so developers just build them for those pics? or they will be available for next expansion?

there are also some vehicles too, like F-35 jet and etc.

Those were placeholders, which means they were low quality assets quickly created to help develop the game before they decided exactly what weapons they wanted to put in there. We saw a similar thing leading up to Marksmen DLC, when I spotted I KelTec KSG when looking trough game data on dev-branch. I approached a dev about it, and asked if they leaked a weapon by mistake, and I got the answer that it was only a placeholder.

Placeholders are necessary during development so that programmers can test game-play features without having to wait for the art department to finalize the weapons that are actually meant to be released.

Huh. Why has the KelTec KSG been relegated to a placeholder? As a future shotgun it would fit in to the 2035 universe, I think. Same as the XM-25.

What I saw was only a picture for the inventory user interface, so I'm not sure that there ever was a functioning KSG.

I do agree that it kind of fits into the 2035 setting because of it's futuristic looks, but I highly doubt any military forces would ever adopt it (in real world).

Those inventory icons have been in the weapons_f.pbo for quite some time:

M4 SASS

The M1014 ported straight from A2 from the looks of it. One of the

showed it in action but that was the last time it was seen IIRC. There's a full sound set for it in sounds_f_weapons.pbo too in the 'M4' folder.

Bulldog

There was only ever one screenshot for the KSG. Seems a bit odd to make a detailed model for just one screenie and then abandon it completely though.

XM25

Few screenshots from 2011 showed NATO units using it; perhaps it would've been the original weapon that Grenadiers would have used prior to them modelling the MX series and giving the MX-3GL instead? There's a reticle for it in the 'acc' folder inside weapons_f.pbo (reticle_CDTES.p3d) and a functional Rscoptics entry for it (Rscoptics_punisher) inside ui_f.pbo that has a working rangefinder as well.

Offtopic, I know. ;) Couldn't resist.

I dunno if the devs ever explained the omission of the XM25 CDTE, but Matt Lightfoot admitted on Reddit that (at some point) shotguns were just not prioritized compared to other long gun types, in response to inquiry re: the lack of any official shotguns.

Sure, it's slightly off topic, but it's interesting research you are presenting :)

Their choice of weaponry that was then after abandoned still makes no sense. Sure, not quite priority for shotguns and such, but a full model of a new gun like the KSG that could have possibly worked fine, honestly should be just cleaned up and thrown in game. Even if it didn't have working pump action animations, no one would be mad to have a free shotgun that may have been confirmed long ago, then left in limbo. XM-25 would make up for the M-32. Some even expected them to make a surprise appearance in the DLC. =P

Your MAR-10 is wrong, it's a salient arms tier1 AR-15 ;)

Thanks @Toysoldier, but BIS developers themselves mentioned that they inspired MAR-10 from a "Noreen Bad News" rifle, maybe that's a "Noreen Bad News" with tier 1 AR-15 barrel! they mentioned it here in:

http://dev.arma3.com/post/oprep-marksmen-weapons

anyway as tier 1 AR-15 is more similar to MAR-10, I replaced it with real model, thank you.

Basically MAR-10 is the Noreen Bad News .338 just with enlarged version of TIER1 rail and barrel
