Beagle 684 Posted September 27, 2002 Well, since the collision detection is much better now with resitance, it should be much easier to make a carrier as a static object. Something like a Tarawa Class Helo carrier or something similar. I think a simple model would do the job, maybe based on the Bridge, that came with resistance. It would be nice to use that carrier as start or ending point for some realistic insertion or extraction missions. Why static...? Well I doubt that moving carriers would work, when looking at the way, landing on the LST doesn't work. Is there someone out there, with some 3D modeling tools and some time and interest...? RaptorAce 0 Posted September 27, 2002 cool idea, we need some navy choppers though
Beagle 684 Posted September 27, 2002 the AH-1 is a Naval Chopper, since it was and is used by the Marines. Btw. also Army Choppers operated from carriers, during the 2. gulf war for example.
Eviscerator 0 Posted September 27, 2002 when he said navy choppers i think he means something like the sh/ch-60 or mh-53 sea dragon, and just because things use carriers doesnt make them navy oh and the LHD-1 Wasp has been modelled for a addon team not a million miles away from my sig, no screenshots yet though
Beagle 684 Posted September 27, 2002 Well...nice to hear that someone is working on it...!
Othin 0 Posted September 28, 2002 The LHD has been modeled all ready, though who knows when we'll get to use it. Â It was modeled for Independance Lost of course. Â What some people mistake for a "carrier" in the pictures is actually a Wasp class LHD. Marek Spanel about Independence Lost with three pics of the LHD-
Eviscerator 0 Posted September 28, 2002 i dont think thats a wasp...the flight deck is too thin and the tower is all wrong:
Othin 0 Posted September 28, 2002 Yes your right, that was a Tarawa class actually. Â Saw the one on the side and made a bad call. Â The superstructure is more squared off on the Tarawa as well as the narrower deck.
Beagle 684 Posted September 28, 2002 ...hey...isn't that a OV-10 Bronco at the rear of that Tarawa...? have a look
Chill 0 Posted September 28, 2002 Sure is! Any one making the Carrier?
Eviscerator 0 Posted September 28, 2002 ? did you not read any of the posts?
Jester983 0 Posted September 28, 2002 It is possible to land on the LST but it takes time. Its not as easy as you would expect. Have to touch down just right. Thats not a bad idea. I wouldnt mind if its static. Long as I could land planes and choppers on there id be happy.
VXR 9 Posted September 28, 2002 we could make it like a ship you would never know if BIS fixes the bug
Prospero 1 Posted September 28, 2002 Kiev class carrier coming soonish. I'm working it down from a model with 450K faces. Enterable too. Destroyable in chunks. Working gun and missile systems. Rotating radars etc etc. I'll prolly do two versions - static and "active", but then I also have some scripting tricks up my sleeve which may make some sort of hybrd possible/playable. FlipeR 0 Posted September 28, 2002 Vixer: BUG? As far as I know there is no bug that wouldn't allow us to land on other vehicles... The only problem is that once you have landed, the mother-ship must not move or else everything on the deck will fall in water. The only important thing for a ship to have a landing desk is the Geometry LOD and the RoadWay LOD and they must be modelled correctly or it still wont work! For testing I added the RoadWay LOD and repaired the Geometry LOD of the (awesome) Retaliation's MOD Mirage patroll boat and all worked as it should - I landed, took a walk arround the boat and then took off. I even could enter the boat's commander/gunner/driver/cargo positions!! FlipeR
gr4vy 0 Posted September 28, 2002 I have a dream... That one day Operation Flashpoint will have an equal physics engine like Battlefield 1942. That soldiers can walk around on ships... That they can change their position in the vehicle WHILE driving... Hey, that would be cool, wouldn't it? bye, gr4vy

peeps 0 Posted September 28, 2002 god i hate the guns on battlefield 1942, but thats off topic. You can make the LST static and make it perfectly easy to land on, i got it almost working but for some reason the chopper pad on the back wasn't there, u just went trough it. the rest of it worked tho
Paladin 1 Posted September 28, 2002 Someone needs to make a new LST. One that doesnt have life boats in 2D that are the size of cobras. It would be easier to land on it too cause my hunch is that the reason its so hard to land on is because it was made before the bug fix.
Prospero 1 Posted September 28, 2002 Fliper, You couldn't possibly post a pic of the roadway lod you made for that boat could you? I'm distinctly lacking experience with those... (I hope to post a few in-game pics of my Kiev carrier in the next few days, and btw, I won't be cutting it down much from 450K faces - it's just too nice to cripple. Buy that GeForce 8). gr4vy 0 Posted September 28, 2002 Wuddya have against the physics of battlefield1942?? It's very realistic, IMO! You can walk on ships, the handling of the jeep is a little bit more realistic... OK, OFP has its advances, but so does bf1942. And there are things, of course, where OFP is better than bf1942, but still, it's the otherway round, too. I love the "flexibility" of battlefield, but thats offtopic now... It's a fact, that BF1942 has some more features, which would be quite useful for ofp. Ok, maybe in OFP2 bye, gr4vy
