Pete's Re-Textures (EUROFORCE, CSAT Snow Tigers)

Recommended Posts

I think I'm also seeing the weird blue colours, taking Pete's pictures at the top of the page, the one on the right is sage green, the one on the left has a blue/turquoise thing going on, there's two different shades, a lighter and darker, corresponding to the light and dark green on the picture on the right. Looking at reforger's pictures, the magazine is snow (so correct) but the rest of the gun is the turquoise.

The question is: How do they look for you. Apparently the Pics look different for me (and other) and Pete. Try to describe the colors of that guns (describe the bottom one)

Difficult, for me it looks like a very bright blue. Nothing that should be in a military camo.

Okay so far we have many people seeing a cyan color and only a fraction of people seeing the actual intended colors!

Poor Pete is doubting his eye-sight atm! xD

That is so weird, but thank you all for your efforts!

I think it's either the colourblindness of a few people or maybe something genetic. I don't know, but everyone sees the same colours in the non-filtered image. That means I have to remove the multiply filter and try another approach in order to get the colours right for everyone - and not just for the colourblind. :D

I think Moony and me nailed down what I did wrong. Apparantly my light map used as filter for the cover was turquoise instead of grey, I failed to notice that, and copypasted the faulty layer throughout all the rifle textures. The helmets got the same treatment so they have odd colours as well. Just for the record, a shot of the fixed Sage version:

The front grip is still off, but the cover and stock should now look as planned for all you guys. Hotfix update when all faulty textures are re-done.

For a moment I thought he is going insane! xD Telling him, that every screen (even a photo taken by his phone) was showing the texture cyan for me was so awkward! xD

Hahahaha I really was worried for a moment that Pete is going mad :D

Yep, I thought exactly the same thing! Hence I had Moon feedback me on every step, just to make sure I don't miss that bloody turquoise again. Crazy, I felt like a blind man painting pictures.^^

HOTFIX arrived! The new weapons and headgear shouldn't be turquoise / blue anymore. Please let me know if you still stumble into odd looking textures so I can fix them. Enjoy!

And please keep in mind, that he knows about the "issue" that some parts of the weapons still have the vanilla colors! ^^

Gonna test it out any sec.

Edit:

Yepp, looks great now I didn't found problems till now.

Thanks for your fast Hotfix. We are just about to have a little gaming session!

Thank you, fellow hosters!

Yes, I'm aware that parts of the MX and MXC do have faulty elements, like the front handle. Also, the muzzle of the MX has a few pixels of texture that don't belong there. I'm in the process of sorting it out but that's small stuff so it has less priority.

New uniforms, helmets and rifles etc are looking awesome. The whole thing now really feels like a complete new unique faction. In this case...would it be possible to

a) link proper identities (names) to the different country insignias ( means if the script chooses for example the spanish insignia it automatically chooses a spanish ID as well...)

b) use the british and greek voices instead of the american ( please !!)

Maybe it would be possible to link both, voices and id"s to the country insignias...british for the western and northern countries and the greek voices for the southern and eastern countries...don't know what do with the french though ;)

c) Would also be super cool if we could choose country insignias for groups somehow.

d) and maybe even get some small country insignias for the vehicles ( similar to the random insignias for infantry units)

...imagine something like danish and polish fire teams being dropped into combat by german choppers ( possibilities are endless)

just my thoughts :)

Thank you! As for your questions:

a) That is planned, yet I was too lazy to create generic name lists for all states until now. Also, the vanilla game functionality does not support such things. Judging by how the indentities are assigned by the game multi-national forces like this are impossible to achieve without scripting. Same problem for the Snow Tigers: they use Asian, African, European (read Russian), and Iranian faces but only Iranian generic names, meaning even Asian guys are called Achmed or similar. I'm thinking about a scripted solution like with the country flags. It is certainly possible. Though the currently assigned American namepool is somewhat similar to a European one because of that little colony business a few centuries ago. There are quite a few names with British, German, Spanish (Mexican) origins.

b) Sadly, there are only three or four British voices against a dozen Americans. And, based on my own experiences abroad, most non-natives (including me) tend to speak and write some sort of American English with their own accents mixed into it. As much as I admire a decent British accent I find it nearly impossible to reproduce it. After years of learning English in school, watching both American and British series, and spending time abroad I have probably developed some sort of mixed accent with several influences, including my native language German of course. I was once told by an Aussie I could pass off as a native from a random English speaking country on first sight, but I seriously doubt I could keep up this disguise in a longer and more complex conversation. My native accent is probably shining through from time to time, especially with difficult or unknown vocabulary. But I've made quite funny observations among my foreign friends. For example, the Slavic people I know from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia tend to forget the articles when communicating in English (as apparently their languages do not have such things), while we Germans probably overuse them. If I spend too much time among the Polish I tend to lose the articles as well - group dynamics, huh? :D

Long story short: I'd love to have realistic European accents but it is impossible to achieve, hence I went for American English as common standard. But it wouldn't hurt to just add Greek and British as well, I guess.

c) Should be easy to implement. As for now, you can just use this in a group member's init line:

{_x setVariable ["IP_Country", "Poland"]} forEach (units(group this));

d) I don't know, do vehicle insignias work by now? I know, there's a property for that in CfgUnitInsignias but it wasn't functional at first.

Cool thx :)

So maybe you could add British voices for the UK , Ireland, some Scandinavian countries and probably the Dutch and Altean English for most of the the southern ( and maybe some eastern) countries like Greece, Italy , Spain etc, leaving the American voices for the rest. This would at least simulate all the different european accents for a bit instead of all of us sounding like US boys.

Made some progress with the INDEP faction, the "Black Star Movement". Finished large parts of the professional infantry, much better equipped than the guerilla forces of the same side. I thought I'd share some images. As planned, I used a mixture of different popular woodland and snow schemes, both existing and self-made. Currently in use are uniforms, vests, and headgear in German Flecktarn, US Woodland, MARPAT, Swedish M90, Finnish M05, British Triangle (self-made, close to CTRG pattern), and US Snow Camouflage (self-made / adapted from US Woodland). Weaponry is TRG-20/21 based with LMGs from AAF and CSAT, plus RPG launchers and SMGs. But I've already made a replacement config that can be launched optionally eqipping the BSM with Toadie's guns, namely AK47, AKM, RPK for the guerilla, M4s, M14s, and Saigas for the Police Forces, and AK12s, M14s, Saigas, and M249s for the professional forces. Used vehicle patterns are sort of spraypaint versions and an AAF-like digi.

Resistance leader Veikko Halla (left and third from the left) next to his second in command Alexej Franke, wearing US Snow Camo, a Flecktarn plate carrier, and an MK-1 in British Triangle.

Not sure yet if these will be a separate release as they're quite specific. Maybe they'll just come alongside the WIP campaign.

Woah, noticed yesterday that I simply forgot to add the Kajman to the Snow Tigers' arsenal. Squeezed in a simple re-texture in Snow Hex this afternoon, thus an update below. Enjoy!

  • Some weapons / vehicle parts cannot be re-textured at the moment, hence the snow versions of the NLAW and some support trucks do not work until BI decides to enable hidden selections for these objects.
