arma 2 to PS4/Xbox One

Recommended Posts

So what do y'all think about importing arma 2 to PS4/Xbox One? I think it could grow the brand. I'm aware that consoles can kill games especially concidering Arma's tactical and opposite of CoD's watered down casual play, but I think it could profit well. I personally want Bohemia to do well as Arma is amazing I think more ppl should get to experience it and I know too many refuse pc gaming.

Operation Flashpoint was trailed on the Xbox before.

There's a reason Arma isn't on consoles ;)

OFP'Elite was for the original xbox and it was a very good game. However, the limitations were in the editor i.e. 70 units if I recall correctly, an aircraft counted as 3 units, I think. It had the three main islands or was it four (can't remember now) and there was of course the campaign (I don't play the campaigns, just need the editor). But overall it was great using the editor very simple straight forward controls, so maybe they could put a version onto console again. Campaign wise I think the game could easily be put onto console, its the rest that comes along with this series that you could miss out on.

There was one later for xbox360 (Dragon Rising) but that wasn't BI really (at the end). Plus there was no editor on release, but it has had one added since, I think.

BI could try, with the new era consoles, if they really wanted too now I suppose, but it would still have restrictions compared to the pc version..

Don't you mean Arma 3 or even 4? :p

Arma is a PC game through and through. Say what you will, but on consoles there just couldn't be the kind of community there is on the PC. You can forget completely about modding on consoles and the editor would be gimped/simplified for the gamepad. It's a series worth investing into a PC, imho.

edit: well, it appears the original Xbox version of OFP did have addons, but you needed a modiefied console which is not something MS would tolerate at this point.

Dragon Rising and Red River had absolutely nothing to do with BI, Chris. Codemasters owns the "OFP" name, so those two games were them milking the name for everything they could.

ArmA 3 doesn't run properly on PC , so you can't expect to see it on new consoles

on other hand - Dayz Standalone will be on PS4/Xbox one

I have heard horrible things about the console version of OFP, though I dont remember if it was about how the game was optimized for the console or just that it was hard.

I was always a PC gamer and I can hardly imagine how you can translate the ArmA2 or ArmA3 controls on a gamepad.

Performance wise, I think it would be actually doable with the new consoles. ArmA3 runs well on my 5 years old PC and I can even turn visibility to full while flying on Altis.

It wouldn't be good to translate them for console's because of the amount of keybindings ArmA has.... i mean on a XboX controller your limited to x,y,b,a,lt,lb,rt,rb,ls,rs,crosspath..... and yes you could do some combining but if you comepare it to all they keybindings there are for ArmA.....

Tbh, there is a lot that can be done with keys even if not ported to console. Arma requires exaggerated amount of keys in most situations. I have written some posts in the past as have others in numerous discussions on this matter and did A3 bring some improvements. Especially in regard to binding same key to multiple functions (i.e. Sprint and Hold Breath). But there is still a lot more.

You would be surprised how well they did get everything to work so easily on the original xbox. It was the easiest I have ever played this series, but it was so restricted by unit numbers, that really you could only have fun with the editor rather than use it in earnest.

I don't play the campaigns of any of these in the series. Its just for the editor I play and if the xbox had not had the restrictions, I would certainly have played the game much more on the xbox. As it was, it never really took off that well, for me anyway.

But they made a great job of it. I appreciate all gaming platforms (o.k. mainly the pc), but they all have something to offer and when BI put OFPElite on the xbox, it was a triumph imo. Certainly for the console form of gaming, its a shame it was really badly received by so many un-knowledgeable pro reviewers. I think many would look back and think now, well it was actually pretty marvellous, what BI achieved. A game on a console that allowed you to make as many small combat scenarios you wanted, with a huge amount of resources, not as many as we have here in the pc world of this series, but for a console, it was way ahead of any rivals, in-fact it didn't have any good rivals, even now on the console there would not be a good rival to OFPElite.
