( ITAR TASS ) Cheap oil sends Russian ruble to record lows

World oil prices have slumped to five-year lows pushing the dollar up to the 52.5-ruble mark.

BTW seems that our suspicions about Sputnik News turn to RT like propaganda were right.

It's worth to listen to the record, where the Russian "super-expert" says that the West advised Ukraine Gov to use atomic bombs against Russia... :j:

The 65-year-old movie legend’s shambolic performance follows his admission that he sometimes drinks up to 14 bottles of wine a day

That's really really crazy... 14 bottles :annoy:

I don't know if Putin also drinks 14 bottles of wine a day, but he must had been drunk today when he said:

Speaking to both chambers in the Kremlin, Mr Putin condemned Western governments for seeking to raise a new iron curtain around Russia.

( BBC ) Russia's Putin calls for Russians to be self-reliant

I mean Putin who is building a huge distance with the Western Govs, with NATO, with the neutral countries around Russia, etc. has the ... to say that the Western govs are the culprits...

From the outset of his speech, in front of an audience of 1,100 people, Mr Putin defended Russia's annexation of Crimea in March, saying that the Ukrainian peninsula's residents were "our people".

It will be interesting to know how many other countries does he consider "his people".

Radio Liberty - Deadly Gunbattle Erupts In Grozny

The fighting came hours before President Vladimir Putin, who was first elected 15 years ago while leading a war that drove separatists from power in Chechnya, was to deliver an annual address to the nation.

Authorities said the fighting began when gunmen traveling in several cars killed at least three traffic police officers at a checkpoint late on December 3.

Kadyrov said on his Instagram account that "six terrorists were annihilated," and he later said that all the militants inside the publishing house had been killed. Other reports put the number of gunmen killed at seven.

The Russian news agency Interfax cited a law enforcement source in the North Caucasus as saying 10 officers were killed and some 20 others wounded, but the information was impossible to immediately confirm.

The National Antiterrorist Committee said a regime of counterterrorism procedures had been implemented in the center of Grozny.

Also lol at the dude falling down. That's Speznaz for you.

Kind of weird how they are "assaulting" that house (shotting the crap out of it until it collapses seems more like what they are actually doing). Why is the heavy MG of the BTR not manned? Why is there no Gunship support?

Speaking to both chambers in the Kremlin, Mr Putin condemned Western governments for seeking to raise a new iron curtain around Russia.

He makes it sound as if the west raised the first one.... I bet he even believes his own bullshit.

I don't want to be that conspiracy guy, but I'm finding this attack rather surprising... Some Moscow residents claimed there was a state of alarm in the city (helicopters patrolling), perhaps Russian Intelligence expected an attack in Moscow?

As for the lack of gunship support, well those are interior paramilitary forces and most likely dont have gunships at all. Imagine Ferguson police using Apaches.

Why they didnt use the BTR guns I do not understand too, lack of ammunition?

And I wouldnt laugh about that dude falling while he was sprinting in cover and looking somewhere else.

They are risking their lives and some men we have seen in that video have propably died that day, while we are sitting in our warm homes and laughing about them not having some heroic poses and serious faces while saving the world from the terrorist threat (patriotic march playing and national flag waving in background).

BuzzFeed - Russia Threatens To Ban BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed received an email on Friday from Roskomnadzor, Russia’s federal communications agency, saying that the post “contains appeals to mass riots, extremist activities or participation in mass (public) actions held with infringement of the established order.†It cited statutes laid out by the prosecutor general’s office and said access to the site “is restricted by communications service providers in the territory of the Russian Federation.†It has given BuzzFeed 24 hours to remove the post or face a total ban.

The article, published late Wednesday and updated on Thursday, uses reports, video and social media posts to tell the story of a shootout between Islamist rebels in Grozny, the Chechen capital, and Russian troops. The attack was the largest in years in the Chechen capital, which has been rebuilt by Chechnya’s authoritarian ruler Ramzan Kadyrov following years of war.

(HRW) Russia: Human Rights Climate Unrecognizable from a Decade Ago

Dramatic deterioration in the past decade has made Russia’s human rights landscape virtually unrecognizable, Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, said at a news conference in Moscow today. Roth is on his first visit to the country since May 2005.

“Starting in the early 2000s, many in Russia have been wary about increasing pressure on critics, but now there is full alarm about autocratic rule,†Roth said. “The rights retrenchment has been most pronounced following Vladimir Putin’s return to the Kremlin in 2012.â€

(New Europe) Karasin: It is damaging to do things contrary to Russian positions

“It is rewarding to do things in Europe with Russia, it is a bit difficult to do things without Russia, but it is damaging to do things contrary to the position of Russiaâ€, according to Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Grigori Karasin

(BBC) Putin ratchets up patriotism amid rouble woes

Vladimir Putin's state of the nation address had been billed as the most anxiously awaited speech of his presidency.

Russians were looking to their leader for reassurance, worried by the near-daily slide of the rouble and warnings of recession under the twin pressures of Western sanctions and a falling oil price.

What they got was another patriotic rallying cry, and more bellicose talk directed at the West.

One adviser called it a show of strength, but critics suggested it was tired and unconvincing. Anyone who expected conciliatory steps over the crisis in Ukraine - to reduce sanctions - was disappointed.

( BBC ) Russian liberal TV channel forced to quit premises

Rain TV (Russian: TV Dozhd) is a digital channel whose output contrasts sharply with state-run media, providing a platform for alternative views.

TV2, another private TV channel based in the Siberian city of Tomsk, faces closure at the end of the year.

The Kremlin has long been accused of undermining media independence.

MIA forces do have some armed Mi-8s and Mi-24s but they are of older versions, so firing a salvo of FFARs against a dozen of allahakbars in a dencely populated city is not smart at all.

As for BTRs - they used KPVTs at those battle, it is shown on other videos.

Of course they shouldn´t use FFARs but those Gunships still have their devastating autocannons.

A crowd of local MIA troops armed with everything from PKs to RPGs with support of BTRs were quite enough to deal with that group of snackbars. There was no need to call for helos.

Peace?

Yes. LEOs in peaceful city aren't ready for attack 24/7. Unlike their colleagues in Ingushetia and Dagestan. You know, Chechnya is rather calm place for several years already.
