That highly depends on your system specs. :)

I use to play with 2000m objectVD and 4-5000m VD, but I'm running the game on a GTX760 with 2Gb VRam, 8Gb Ram, i5-4430 @3,0GHz and on all settings on ultra except for object detail, terrain detail and texture detail (those only on very high).

In missions with many objects I lower ObjVD down to 1600m, that's definitely far enough, for missions in dense areas (like towns), I even reduce it to 800m.

In most cases 1200 m ObjVD is certainly enough for infantry, with a general VD of 2000 (so you get to enjoy the view sometimes ;)).

depends on system and game style, if im on my own in a map i can max out everything (normally campain is maxed), the more i add AI the more i have to reduce the distance

i have an I7-3.4, GTX770, 12gb ram

My settings are 3000m vd and 1500 on objects - im only on mp - higher settings than that will affect my fps hard.

I usually play at 6k, but without anti aliasing. With anti aliasing on I'd probably manage 3 or 4k.

3.5k

3.5k

GTX 580 SLI (1,5gb)

i7 950 stock (which reminds me i should probably OC that little f*cker today)

6gb ram

Graphics set on ultra (makes no difference anyways funnily enough)

And no blur or any of that useless stuff.

when I fly (so most of the time I play arma) I set it pretty high. On Altis, 7-8000 view, 5-6000 ObjVD. On stratis I can put view to 12000 and ObjVD to 9000. I don't play on the highest settings though, with all AA and PP off.

Depends on the role but as an infantry I use 1000m-1600m object view distance and enough view distance so there won't be "fog" where the objects pop up. Flying I use way more view distance and bit more object distance and if I need to shoot I use way more object distance also.

6k view distance, 1.6k object distance

you can pretty much play at 12k without a big FPS impact as long as your GPU is decent enough, the trick is to not raise object distance with it. I can put the view distance at 12k and the performance is still good as long as I keep the object distance at 1.6k. Now I have the VD at 6k just because the hitches get a little more frequent at 12k, but nothing game breaking.

Btw my GPU is a Palit GTX 750 Ti, playing on ultra at 900p. CPU is i7 2600 running at stock clock, but I don't think the CPU matters at all when it comes to rendering stuff.

I used to be able to play 12000/3200 on my laptop a few days ago, but now something has happened and it won't detect my GPU (a modest GT 650M), so I'm running 3000/1000 on integrated graphics :(
