Artyom 10 Posted March 21, 2014 After hamming my way through the new showcase, I realised locking targets with jets is incredibly inconsistent for me. Some times it won't target at all, sometimes it targets from miles out, sometimes it won't target until you're right over and then immediately lose sight. I tried adjusting speed, wing level etc and the only almost consistent method I have is to locate a target visually, return the nose to the horizon then it targets below the nose. Sometimes it works, sometimes it still doesn't. Does an A/C have to be level with the horizon to lock ground targets?
jgbtl292 0 Posted March 21, 2014 yes ^^ you can look ground targets with a copter on a longer range to ;) have testet it, you have the 1/3 - 1/2 more range with a copter
Crielaard 435 Posted March 21, 2014 The target needs to be in a narrow cone in front of you. Not sure how narrow it is. But putting the target in you HUD seems to work consistently for me. Gives very much the 'feel' of the ACM-20 mode of the F16's fire control radar.
Scubbo 10 Posted March 21, 2014 but but this is supposed to be all modern gear it should lock on with just your eye movement (and people still wonder why the modern gear of A3 is disliked.... worse lockon systems than the 1980s)

That is inconsistent for me, as I said I could do two runs one after the other with identical ingresses on the target Run 1 it will lock Run 2 it won't lock It's weird. JestersDead 2 Posted March 22, 2014 It doesn't help that there are something like 6 keybinds for targeting functions... Which one am I supposed to use? It also makes it difficult with TrackIR, because the targeting "cone" seems to be centered on your view, not your HUD. So if you're looking slightly off to one side, the vehicle in your HUD will not lock.
gavc 28 Posted March 22, 2014 agree with this, was testing out the excellent FA-18 mod a few nights ago and it's the first time i was in the air in a long time, targeting was poor, inconsistent. I had a ground team with a laser designator and getting targets with that helped, but targeting vehicles with the AGM's was flaky. G
izaiak 1 Posted March 22, 2014 1st you can't use the F-18 as an example because it is a mod. 2snd, even if it is a very arcade game for radar etc ... You need just need to train to have the good position to lock. with the vanilla game or with the f-18 AGM can lock at very very very long range ( for arma )! the_demongod 31 Posted March 22, 2014 Really? I've never experienced a problem with locking. I just put the weapon reticule on the target and press target. Works every time, as long as I can see my target and I'm aiming at it. Here is what I do: I delete all the keybinds for targeting, and then I bind "Lock Zoom" and "Reveal Target" to T. I remove all the other keybinds because I find it to be annoying when you try to lock a target but it instead cycles to a different one. If you are having trouble locking, maybe try my setup, as I have never experienced problems with targeting. Oh, and the targeting cone is indeed centered around your vision. I look to the side to lock targets all the time, so that on my next pass all I have to do it fire. So make sure your view is centered before you try to lock. ave, the_Demongod
