L85A2 Release

Recommended Posts

Could anybody point me to a working download for the V2 source files? The link on Armaholic no longer works. Mainly I'd like to take a look at the Susat's 3D implementation.

Something interesting. Heres a SUSAT with a reflex sight. I would love to see this.

If I'm not mistaken there's already an addon that does this. Hold on a sec

Here ya go, the reflex sight seems to be a bit different though.

That sight is an LDS (SpecterDR-based) and as you say the reflex and guard is different aswell .... so there's not much likness with that mod and the SUSAT ;)

The Shield Mini Sight red-dot for the SUSAT was just something that was trialled before the ACOGs were adopted for use in Iraq and Afghanistan (the ACOGS used the exact same Shield sight). Similarly, the Brügger & Thomet RIS you see in the top photo was being trialled before the Daniel Defense one was procured for general issue instead. I don't think the SUSAT red-dots ever saw issue among troops before the new Lightweight Day Sight came and replaced SUSAT.

I think the one in the second pic is a kitbash by an airsofter or something because the metalwork on the shroud looks a bit crude, and the red-dot sight is the wrong type (it's not a Shield one - looks like it might be a Docter).

I heard some rumors that it was J-Point that got a "trial" order for the ACOGs, both sight and mount; http://www.jprifles.com/1.6.1.php

No idea if it true or not but it looks pretty much spot on to the first pic, along with these:

One thing I do know however is that it wasn't the more commonly spotted Trijicon Docter mount. ;D

JPoint is identical to the Shield Mini Sight - JPoint were given rights to market the sights in the USA by Shield, who designed and manufactured the sight in the UK originally (hence why the British armed forces chose Shield as the supplier).

The same sights were previously sold in the USA as Firepoint and Optima before JPoint got exclusivity.

It's all mentioned on Shield's website: https://shieldpsd.sharepoint.com/Pages/Minisight.aspx

You can see the UK-issued mounts (including the MNT-A1550 for SUSAT and MNT-A1150 for ACOG) in their store:

http://www.shieldfirearmssights.com/mounts

Trijicon also had rights to market them as part of their ACOGs after they'd been selling Docter's sights with their ACOG for a while. Trijicon found theirs to be more robust than the Docters in drop-tests, as Docter to build them out of thin aluminium with glass lenses, where the Shield/Trijicon ones are all polymer. IIRC the Docters also weigh more because of the glass lenses. That was until they were superseded by Trijicon's own RMR.

Then you have the Burris Fastfire, Insight MRDS etc. that are based on the same sort of concept but have a different design and various improvements over the original Mini Sight.
