Graphical glitch. Not sure what I'm looking at?

Recommended Posts

So, this glitch has been boggling my mind. I've had a few buddies help me with no luck, so here i am. Anyway is my rig:

i7 4770k

GTX 780 3gb

Gigabyte Z87HD3

If someone can point me in the right direction i'd be very grateful. (Screenshot in the following post.)

"Normally" when I see artifacts like that I would say RAM overheating/unststable clocks. Is this happening right away or over time? If it is happening over time then I would go with my original statement. If it's happening right away then I would look at the basics like trying different drivers, making sure DX is up to the latest version available etc, basic troubleshooting stuff.

Edit: Happening right away. Thanks, yeah I've tried updating direct x, phys x, multiple drivers including beta drivers. Different resolutions, changing every single setting individually from low to ultra, from on to off. It sucks because this is the only game its doing it to. Getting pretty discouraged. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Does this happen in both dev and stable branch? Have you tried running a local file repair in Steam (in case of file corruption)?

Haven't tried the dev branch only the stable branch. Yes i have tried a local repair, and a fresh install. If i try the Dev branch will i be able to play with my buddies on the stable build?

Nope, but at least you'll be able to test if the problem exists there aswell. You can always switch back afterwards.

Btw. does the issue happen in the main menu aswell, or only when you start a mission?

Does this happen in singleplayer? If not what server/mission you're playing?

/Oh if it happens in the main menu then something is badly wrong :/

Haha, that's encouraging. It happens in singleplayer, and its worse in multiplayer.. Really stumped.

Scrub your Nvidia drivers and re-instal them. Check if your rig is over heating.

Have you tried different screen resolutions?

Hum,... probably it's because you have 3GB of Ram on you GPU and i belive arma it's only prepared to 2Gb Max. Try to start A3 with this parameter "-maxVRAM=2047" without the "" ofcourse. ;)

Reminds me of the problems that people were having in dayz when some objects, correct me if I am wrong, weren't binarized properly...

If you do a Google search, you will find what I mean.

Other than that, then it will be what is said above, a probable ram fault, most likely overheating.

Ignore the maxvram stating above, mine is set at 2800 and a3 uses it all no problem.

I suffered severely from the same issue in A2 with my old PC, and I can tell you it drives you mad – it gives you headache and usually appears during most intense combat. I also had the issue in A3 temporarily with new PC, but it disappeared in next build. Here's a video that I recorded of the issue, so you can see how horrible it looks:

If it Works with you then he can try but in the community wiki it states:

-maxVRAM=<number> ->Defines Video Memory allocation limit to number (in MegaBytes). Use to resolve e.g. Windows problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2026022/en-us?p=1 128 is hard-coded minimum (anything lower falls backs to 128). 2047 is soft-coded maximum , any value over 2GB might result into unforseen consequences!

And if it dosen't works you can try the "-noCB" parameter,...
