pawelkpl 29 Posted August 27, 2013 Hi, We've tried Xeno domination mission on Altis and we've encountered a problem with dedicated server (even in the editor it is the same problem). 1. Playing on Altis - mission starts - server uses 900MB but after 1-2 min. it goes to 2GB and more... and more and it never stops... 1. Same missions playing on Stratis - mission starts - server uses 500MB and goes slowly up , 1-2 hours playing memory usage at 600MB and even after 4-5 days it stays around 800-900MB Is it related to memory leak ? cheers, pawel
Vixente 10 Posted August 27, 2013 I doubt it. Clientside, A3 running Altis, 2 hours just with me piloting an AH9 around: A3 RAM usage: 2GB Swap file usage: almost 4 GB. VRAM: 1.5 - 1.7 GB I'd say it's ok for a massive map like Altis. (way way bigger than Stratis)

xendance 3 Posted August 27, 2013 But he's talking about memory usage on a dedicated server, not client. Well, the server still needs the geometry to be loaded in, and maybe some textures too. And it could be the mission too.
instagoat 133 Posted August 27, 2013 Altis is causing my PC to crash within 10 minutes of starting up the map, and it appears to always be memory issues (ie, the running out thereof). So I'd say somethings fishy here. I hope this is not an actual bug but a quirk of the dev branch. Otherwise it'd be pretty major, as it also seems to tie in with the performance problems people have been reporting.
smokedog3para 365 Posted August 28, 2013 mso keeps memory leaking and crashing on altis memory foot print error for me only when running mso.
Champy_UK 1 Posted August 28, 2013 +1 yes same for us....8-10minutes then desync and never to return :( 4-5 guys on a dedi
Tankbuster 1744 Posted August 28, 2013 I can't be sure if it's a memory leak or not. Certainly I've NEVER seen a server instance use as much memory as this. I've not been able to look at CPU activity during these desyncs yet. That might help.
SavageCDN 231 Posted August 28, 2013 mso keeps memory leaking and crashing on altis memory foot print error for me only when running mso. MSO does this sometimes.. if you have NOMAAD turned on try disabling it to see if the error goes away.
windies 11 Posted August 28, 2013 I've gotten over 1.2gb's in I/O reads while just driving around the map with no other entities on it in 5 minutes. That seems like an awful lot of data to be streaming in realtime in such a small frame of time. It seems by today's latest dev branch that they may/are exhausting the 32 bit addressing space on a 32bit OS? As far as it being a memory leak, I think it's just streaming in all of this data and especially on a DS, it needs to keep that data in memory and doesn't want to release it, possibly causing the issue. I hope they can fix it, but I think the only real way to fix it would be with a 64 bit binary.
Alcano 11 Posted August 28, 2013 I have played for 20 minutes and there is a clear memory overflow. I have a G15 keyboard and monitors the memory % used. as long as time passed the memory increased. once I got a heli, things happened much faster. Once the percentage reached 86% game crashed to 1FPS and glitches.... (as always) What is clear is that all people with 32bits and the poor real 3gb of memory are doomed. I'm going to buy more memory and migrate to 64bits, but honestly, sounds very disappointing and I still wonder why this is not happening in Stratis.

Hold your horses... sounds like some at least people have solved it in the 1-2 thread.
pawelkpl 29 Posted August 29, 2013 Here is video: http://www.twitch.tv/xvandeikenx/b/452900915 It shows what happanes on altis. So there are two arma 3 servers running. 1. First is Altis Xeno domination mission on altis. 2. Second is Xeno domination mission on stratis (exactly the same scripts, etc.) - 2 days running shows about 700MB of memory usage, When mission starts on altis map it loads lots of data, up to 1.1GB and it is normal, skip to 2:55 minutes to see how suddenly game loads 1GB data into server. and stops about 2.1GB, when loading, server stops and server monitor command does not work. Any clue about that issue ?

It might be clear to you but doing what you propose will have no effect whatever. The server application is 32 bit regardless of the operating system it runs on. thr0tt 12 Posted August 30, 2013 This issue has been hampering my online gaming for ages and not just Altis but Stratis too, aftre 1-2 hours the game just slows to a snails pace, nothing else appears to be a problem, no heat issues, memory issue, cpu issues it just gets to a halt. Restarting the game and rejoining the same server fixes the issue for the same amount of time...
