kdk11 1 Posted July 28, 2013 Ok what I need to know is, When retexturing a helicopter if you put something for example writing on the tail it puts it on both sides, and the opposite side will be backwards. Is there anyway to change it so it looks the correct way on both sides?
SAMstudios-3Dartist 45 Posted July 28, 2013 Probably not, becus the goundmodel has mirror sides when the did they model. thats why it become backwards.

Is there anyway to change it so it looks the correct way on both sides? no, because, most likely, the UVs are overlapping for both sides. pretty bad decision if you ask me, even if the model was created using symmetry (everyone does it). Amit 17 Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) So how would someone go about placing text on a helicopter if they cannot use the texture itself? Edited July 29, 2013 by Amit
Jackal326 1182 Posted July 29, 2013 Without editing the model (which you can't as the models are Binarized and as such cannot be edited in O2), you can't.
Amit 17 Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) So you're saying that if I was to open the p3d in Oxygen 2, then I would be able to add text by adding a hidden selection area specifically for the text texture to be displayed? In this case the hidden selection would be the dimensions of the paa for the text? Btw, OP should change the title of the thread to something regarding getting text on vehicle textures. It may attract the attention of a few more people if they think they can help with this. Edited July 30, 2013 by Amit
BusStopWilly 1 Posted July 31, 2013 Dont bother with O2. Use the existing textures and edit those. Carefully choose logo design and placement. Instead of text, try using a symmetrical logo. Download my ZFG addon, contains a retexture of every heli so you can take a look where i put text and stuff. BSW

I just popped your pbo open and took a gander at your methods. Unfortunately, it appears no different than my own experiments with the Ghosthawk textures. I don't have any need or interest in adding text to vehicles currently, but I was just wondering if there was a way to do it through the p3d. I'll have to investigate this further. I'd assume that someone has at least attempted it in Arma 2, so maybe I should start there seeing as I can't seem to get Oxygen and related tools to work properly for Arma 3. max power 21 Posted August 1, 2013 Occasionally BI will use symmetry to build their helicopters but then put decal geometry for painted words and stuff. Make sure there aren't any other named selections.
