Urgent, need hotfix: 4x 3d scopes allows TrackIR users to look around freely in 4x

Recommended Posts

The problem is balance. We're not talking about the kind of balance that means Army A has to have all the same weapons and vehicles as Army B. We're talking about myself a non-TrackIR user, cannot be in scoped view and hold alt to look around. It doesn't work that way. Buying a hardware device shouldn't break past game code to give you an unfair advantage. It should have the same restrictions as what can be done with Keyboard + Mouse. Otherwise this game turns into pay to win.

Stop spending all your money on bitches and buy hardware. :P

I dont particularly like being dictated to just because I like to spend money on my hobby. I work hard and play hard.

For the record it isnt much of an advantage and is actually quite awkward on the eyes, this is over three monitors as well.

Yeah, I pay to win, now stop crying and get a better job. All I see in here are people QQing about their lifes circumstances.

You can do it with your numpad as well BTW, or are you too poor to buy a keyboard with one?

Hey, lets make the game incompatable with three monitors too, if you feel that way buy an Xbox.

It isn't possible to alter track IR sensitivity based on zoom settings. The simplest answer is the system in place on the SOS scope. Head movement not available when looking though a zoom scope.

If you want to turn your head switch to the secondary red dot/iron sight on top of the scope.

No but there is a Precision key which slows down movement, F7 i think by default. No one shoots with an eyeball on the scope. the floating optics works well, wish the long range scopes used it too.

Hello there

Hmmm, can't say I like posts such as these that assume lack of funds equals lazyness, but I do agree with liquidpinky that users that do have the disposable means shouldn't be penalised.

All games are "pay to win" in the sense that better hardware peripherals give one an advantage.

As a non Track IR user, I would rather have the new scopes and give the minority of TrackIR users an "unfair" advantage rather than revert to the old scopes to level the field.

I also find the rear lens often uber reflective, but *if* that's a real life effect then I'm happy to see it stay in.

I will clarify that it was tongue in cheek and I dont actually pay to win, I pay to improve my enjoyment or experience.

I do tire of being hammered by people who for whatever reason cannot or will not in some cases upgrade and think I should be penalised because I do.

Like I said in my earlier post though, it isnt much of an advantage as it is certainly a pain in the ass with triple monitors.

I prefer running around on the collaminated sights as you get a better overall picture for spotting enemy units and the four times zoom is pointless for it.

this does not get rid of the hunting for the scope problem that occurs when the track IR is not perfectly central. It is a real pain in the ass and your solution does not address that.

The only system that works in practice is to lock scope view to centre. Otherwise track IR users are at a significant disadvantage with these scope as too tricky to handle.

:)

Apologies, if I was grumpy.

I cannot test it as I dont have TIR, but to me (as you say) 4x zoom seems like a limitation on the whole rather than an advantage.

There's a definite issue "bugwise" here, but is it one that's worth addressing at this stage? Thoughts?

not sure if your a new user of the TrackIR or not but setting up a deadzone using F7 and F12 combat all your issues.

You can also put the TrackIR on standby by pressing F9, locking your view to normal... the issues not with the game its with how you choose to configure the TrackIR.

i wish they'd go one further and have the reticle dance in the tube like they do if your eye isn't centered like they do IRL. but i like what we've got.

Actually I have been using trackIR for a while with a dead zone and turning it on and off with a key is an unnecessary fudge to a problem which need not exist if the scopes behaves like the SOS.

Yeah, it just doesn't work out. With the dirty and flared scopes, you're better off looking to the side of the scope if you want to observe, which is a lot of what I do with the scopes. And it's a pain to keep your head still enough for any longer period of time viewing down the scope as well. 4x magnification = 4x sensitivity.

wow I honestly cannot believe that this is an issue ... I just purchased my trackIR5 and i have to say being able to glance around while "scoped" is Super nice... I really hope that they don't change that...

The ONLY thing i agree with in this thread is that the rear lens is to reflective and near impossible to see threw sometimes..

Hmm , you cant line up your NVG's with a scope in real life? I donno I am asking.. I figured it could be done.. you wear your NVG's and line up with a scope i imagine you can see threw the scope .. i dont see how thats impossible.. but whatever

and the sensitivity issue is EASILY SOLVED. TURN ON "PRECISION".... LOL

You can set the amount of smoothing.. effectively slowing down the head movement.. I have my precision smoothing on default 100.. and that's a noticeable slow down in head movement.. when i go scoped i keep my head still or i enable "precision" capture with my hotkey.. instead of ruining it for others why don't you learn how to use the technology you have.. If you have a problem with your head moving when your scoped ... Set up a convenient hot key to disable TrackIR.... Its THAT EASY.. you go scoped, hit the hotkey and turn off TrackIR for a few seconds..

no need to ruin it for everyone else that knows how to use it...

I am the author of this thread, and I agree with you that it's rather convenient to be able to look around in 4x zoom... However, it's stupid because it gives you a superhero power. No person is able to look around in 4x view in real life, thus it shouldn't be possible in ARMA. I really understand the concerns of non-trackIR users, even though I rarely play PvP myself. The thing with this is, using this is an exploit... It should be rather obvious that it's not intended... It's not simulating anything from the real world, it's simply something the developers forgot about.

I don't have a problem using the new scopes, I simply hate the fact that I can have superhuman abilities, since it breaks the immersion as hell. As some people say, using PiP is a possible solution, and then I would be fine with being able to look around, as long as it's not zoomed in, but it's not a necessity.

Surely the PiP solution isn't that bad on performance? The PiP settings for monitors etc. that we have now seem to have little to no effect on framerates, even on one of my friends' rigs, which is a complete potato.

PiP is very bad on performance as the whole scene has to be rendered twice. The game already has major fps issues for many people and any further big drops would be totally unacceptable.

As Almanzo said above 4x human vision is not possible and is an exploit. The developers have simply forgotten to fix it so far. It is something that will be sorted out soon and all zoom scopes will behave like the SOS.

I am more annoyed by the insane sensitivity of TrackIR when using the scope. Sensitivity seems to be magnified by 4x, too. This makes it actually hard to just keep that *@% sight in sight.

(And, no, thats neither realistic nor immersive nor fun nor anything else one could consider positively.)

Much agree. There's a very limited angular box that you can look around in while viewing the RCO. There's no reason to have TrackIR this sensitive where a tiny flick of my head moves my view so much and I hit the angular wall quickly anyway. If the zoom goes up by 4x the TrackIR sensitivity should go down by 4x. Some kind of blur filter (mild) so that you don't gain (or lose) any feature resolution outside the glass boundary would be very neutral and proper.

I don't see how this is a problem, it's as much a part of the game mechanics as how people use third person, is it not?

Am I the only one noticing lag when I zoom in with the 3d scopes and zoom out? It's hard to notice but there is a slight lag from my point of view.

That's probably because it's loading new LODs/whole new objects in general as your zoom changes. I get a short burst of frame lag when objects are loading and I'm on an SSD, can't imagine what it's like on an HDD.

this is also possible to reproduce without Track IR. just sprint and scope in, you'll get zoomed in without the weapon coming up. very handy in some situations :D

No possible withging current implementation. Scope zoom is defined in the scope config, and as you know, there is no way to alter a config on the fly.

That's not required. There's no need to alter the config. What should happen is it should kick you out of (or suspend) the optic view if you look beyond some angular limits. That combined with a filter would assure that view beyond the optic is 1x or equivalent. The benefit of suspending the optic temporarily while side looking is that looking around at 1x is possible (as per reality) without the unreasonable benefit of the magnification provided by the device.

Muahahahahahahaha with my TIR hooked up and my trusty TrackClip hat I now have super sight! Going to be useful on those long range Altis engagements :)
