oxmox 73 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) Some decaces ago in Afghanistan, images show the daily life in the late 60ies . Of course you would see also veiled woman in this time and people who live with their traditions and religious believes. But, I did choose some images which you would probably not expect in this country. A Bus Trip from Kabul to Peschawar Big Sister Istafil, Province Kabul Demonstration in Kabul Garden in Phegman (2 female Tourists) Students of the Higher Teachers College in Kabul "In this time girls and boys went to school. They did wear school uniforms." Lamb Skewers Peaceful Region around Kabul. Around a decade later the Sovjet Invasion did start, which was just the beginning of their next 30 years of war. maturin 12 Posted May 24, 2013 It was a modernizing country cutting a nice path between east and west, socialism and capitalism, before the Soviets fucked everything up. But invading other leftists tends to be what communist countries are best at... Nevermind Vietnam, Iran is a good parallel for the U.S. here. Theocracy was nowhere in the cards until the CIA started meddling. The Ayatollahs and their supporters were nothing until the political struggle became a game for martyrs, with the credit going to the crazies willing to let themselves be gunned down by the Shah's security forces. kernriver 4 Posted May 25, 2013 It's not good to post at 2 AM, I guess, but I have to say this: And all of a sudden they became muslim fundamentalists, over night. Right. Leave those people alone, for GOD sake.
Tonci87 163 Posted May 25, 2013 All those pictures only show the life like it was in the big cities (Kabul) The life in the rural areas was still like in medieval times. A few pics from cities are not representative of the whole country.
mr burns 131 Posted May 25, 2013 Citys however can be seen as catalyst for overall development. See amazon native tribes merging with city-life. Some 10 years from now those tribes will be fully migrated. Quite irritating to see how quickly an atmosphere of growth and open-mindedness could shift back to archaic structures in afghanistan. oxmox 73 Posted May 25, 2013 All those pictures only show the life like it was in the big cities (Kabul) The life in the rural areas was still like in medieval times. A few pics from cities are not representative of the whole country. I think this is correct. These are selected images and the life in rural areas were and are very traditional. Neverless, it shows partly the westernization in Kabul and the tolerance about it before fundamentalists did reign the country. I hope not people believe the whole country did look like this. Rovka 14 Posted May 29, 2013 Afghanistan has always been an Afghan matter, regardless of who steps in to boss them around, they ultimately will have to shape their own country and their own future all by themselves along the ways they deem best.. Only time will tell really; Perhaps peace in Afghanistan won't come in our own lifetimes, we don't know yet. Nobody knows, but ultimately the Afghan population as a whole for, and by themselves. But not before the imminent bloodshed, wholesale slaughter, power-games, more warfare, and scores to be settled have passed by. Sad but true.. However I hope the Afghans will revisit the state of the 1960's sooner then later, that or even better.
