Sanguinius 1 Posted May 3, 2013 I know I say this a bit, but look at a game like SWAT 4. That game executed breaching, special weapons (flashbang, taser, cn gas), and CQB perfectly. It truly was a masterpiece. Now, I'm not saying that you need tasers and flashbangs (though a flashbang would be really cool.), but the system used was so easy and yet so capable. Let me give you a video. See all the stuff the player could do? If only the breaching aspect of that was introduced, it would enhance CQB so much. You are also provided with a breaching shotgun if you choose, and stun grenades. Even different types of ammmunition, such as FMJ or Hollowpoint, make it a much more... varied experience? HorbeySpector 164 Posted May 3, 2013 ^good post. Would be very good improvement to the game to add such breaching functions.
Smurf 12 Posted May 3, 2013 SWAT4 was really good but was a game build around those systems. Scale, scope and focus of Arma is a whole other thing. But, as I said previously, it would be a neat addition. PS: GasMasks were kind of confirmed, so why not flashbangs?
Sanguinius 1 Posted May 4, 2013 Yes, it would have been IMPOSSIBLE in Arma 2, absolutely ding dang diddly. But, we've already seen how much Arma 3 has improved. Wouldn't it make sense that weapon handling will be improved, and with the smoother movement system, it'll behave basically like SWAT 4 in terms of maneuvaribility. And the actual breaching section could be the same for each door of every type. I'm not suggesting that we have l33t battlefield 'micro-destruction' and epic particle effects. Just a short, small blast, and the door slams inward. If you wanted, you could even add damage from the explosive, the shotgun, or even the door. 'Scale, scope and focus of Arma is a whole other thing' I bet you would have said when presented with underwater diving as a possibility. 'Oh, but you're basically doubling the size of the BSP. THAT WOULD MURDER EVERYTHING EVER INVENTED BY MANKIND.' Well, maybe not that last sentence. But that is probably what you would have said.
chortles 263 Posted May 4, 2013 Sanguinius, are you aware of how many people were opposed to underwater diving or even complained 'why is BI adding underwater stuff instead of fixing MY priorities' before the public alpha release?
metalcraze 290 Posted May 4, 2013 The problem is SWAT4 is that every breaching bit is entirely scripted and AI there will perform same set of actions on exactly same time. Of course for a game like SWAT4 it works great because everything is made in it for that one-sided style of play if you know what I mean. And if the breaching in ArmA3 is to be done, unlike SWAT4 it has to have AI being able to do it too.
Sealife 22 Posted May 4, 2013 And if the breaching in ArmA3 is to be done, unlike SWAT4 it has to have AI being able to do it too They already Open the doors which is a series of RTm`s discrete and and the doors non discrete as would breaching be , i think people should simply be out right Honest instead of this same excus everynew iteration of Arma rv Engine. Arma3 simply isnt made for CQB with AI regardless of breaching or anything , on the other hand for PvP Beaching would be perfectly acceptable , for Bis to cater for both in Default would be too much , the compromise is SDK and BIS wiki . So i agree with all just I belive i have been clear in my thoughts not just copty and paste same old Mantra . Crowds made it clear they wanted Zombies and BIS saw the Financial sense , maybe one day someone willcome along and not just make M4s but Buidlings capable of hosting CQB and maybe this will gather a crowd enough topersuade BIS a CQB version of Arma RV is good to make :)
PN11A 2 Posted May 4, 2013 Maybe Im confused but your talking as if the buildings in ARMA3 are not fit for fighting. What kind of CQB are you thinking of?
chrisb 196 Posted May 4, 2013 I think the only way we will ever see this type of CQC is via a mod. Getting the ai to work right, that close together, is going to be really hard in this series, maybe too hard. Would be really great to see something though. old_painless 182 Posted May 5, 2013 if we could convince the AI of when they are in outdoors mode (only current mode available) or in indoors mode. Both modes would have their own FSMs etc. Indoors mode would include the entering of buildings
