Real military veterans

Recommended Posts

Just wondering who here is a veteran or currently serving in the military. Let me know what service you're in, what country, what you do, where you've been, how long you've been in, etc.

I've been in the US Army for 7 years now (1 left before I get out). I was initially in PsyOps (Psychological Operations). I was in Quartermaster, where I was the armorer. I repaired the unit's small arms. Fun job. Then I switched to field artillery. Pretty cool. They switch us around every year, so we get to know all positions within the battery. Now I'm on the ammo team and I'm a SAW gunner. It's pretty cool. We're hoping to upgrade from the M109-A4s and 5s (self-propelled) to the Paladins (A6's), then someday we'll be MLRS, but not for a while. In my hitch, I've been to military posts in South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Panama. I'm currently a sergeant.

So for me, OFP is a really great game. I love the realism, and I like being able to drive/fly everything. smile.gif I like being able to get into combat without actually running around with 50lbs of gear on and getting eaten by mosquitos.

What about the rest of you?

My military resume is in my sig with the patches of the units I have been in (well, except for the peace sign wink.gif ):

It is the Swedish military, I might add smile.gif

1. Kustjägarna (Costal Rangers), Första pluton "1:a Fanatiska" (First platoon "1:st Fanatical"), Squad leader. I held the rank of "Furir" - Corporal.

2. Then I was selected for A-dyk (attack divers), First Amphibious Batallion, Platoon leader. Rank: "Sergeant" (Staff Sergeant (E6) ).

3. Then I was transferred kicking and screaming against my will to MUST (Military Intelligence) where I remained until the end of my service.

4. Last year I re-enlisted for a six month tour with KFOR where I was an intelligence specialist part of a group that did a KSIE (KFOR Special Intelligence Estimate) report on the Serbian military capabilities before and after operation Allied Force. I wasn't part of SWEBAT but in a group directly under COMKFOR.

5. Right now I'm a "värnpliktig fänrik" (second lieutenant) in the reserves. My last military experience was a couple of weeks ago when I commanded a company during an excersise. The excersise ended with a total disaster, but that's another story wink.gif

Hi <!--emo&smile.gif

a crs compagny

F.u.c.k.i.n.g. funny (sorry when I enjoy myself I fall back into my gettho-language)

Lets try another one.

Was fuer ne Schnapsidee. So ein blutiger anfaenger, man sollte sie im hohen bogen rauswerfen.

the hit-vene ran blue on when the boatguider me about it reminded: an oakhorn shines more sparkling wine in the bones to have than a cod-liver-oil-bag!" Well, look you once to that you land win you. No, not there long! what of a Schnaps-idea!  biggrin.gif So a bloody oncatcher, one should you in high bow out-throw!

Active duty USMC Staff Sergeant, 1994-present

1st MOS was 0311 (Rifleman); served as CQB team member and DM (designated marksman) with FAST Company in Norfolk, VA.  Current MOS of 3441 (Nonappropriated Fund Auditor) is slightly less exhilarating.

That sounds suspiciously like an accountant biggrin.gif

And if it is, good lord can the Marines make ANYTHING sound tough wink.gif

I was all signed up to join the Canadian Forces when I turned 18...then I decided that I dont respond well to discipline.

Who knows..if I ever manage to whip my pudgy ass into shape, mebbe I'll join the Reserves and be a weekend warrior smile.gif

Let's just say it's not what I imagined doing when I signed up.  Then again, to paraphrase Dirk Gently, I may not end up where I plan to go, but I usually end up where I need to be.  wink.gif
