WIP - M4A1 with Block II Components

Recommended Posts

Nice model,

One tip, make render with ambient occlusion so that all details bump up, because right now it gives the feeling of begin flat! (even bake it once finished)

keep it up

To add to that, render with a grey or bluish/grey background with dark objects to give it more contrast.

Looks great! You're making awesome progress.

Constructive criticism/nit picking:

1. MBUS sights are not the "official" block 2 BUIS. It should be a Knight's Armament Micro front sight and 300m or 600m sight in the rear. The MBUS you have on there are also a little out of scale.

2. The CTR/MOE on there is also not "official". The LMT SOPMOD stock is what you see on most rifles, but I've seen pictures of plenty of guys who have swapped for other stocks; CTR/MOE being very common.

3. The Magazine appears to be a bit too large and it might be canted a little too much forward. It looks like it needs to be a little more vertical.

4. Vertical foregrips are becoming less and less common these days. It might be a little out of place for every guy to have one. Perhaps two models might be good? Or maybe A3's accessory system will allow us to mount them? Also it's scale seems to be little off, you might want to enlarge it.

5. The suppressor you have on there is pretty bad ass. However to be accurate Standard Block 2 suppressors seem be Knight's NT4.

For accuracy's sake I think it would be good for the basic model to be as generic as possible. I've noticed in the past when multiple guys run around in Arma with highly customized rifle it seems to look weird, but I'm just a guy who notices stuff like that.

Overall, I'm very excited about this. I hope I don't sound like an asshole, I'm just a dude who drools over Block 2 rifles and has a little bit of knowledge to share. Thanks for your hardwork!

The Block II I had issued isn't just the rifle, its a full kit with a large amount of accessories and we are free to swap for other parts as long as we hold on to the original gear to turn in when we turn in the weapon. Most of the guys here have our issued Tango Down grips mounted too. IIRC there is an image floating around that has the full accessory kit pictured.

Thanks for the feedback! To answer some, if not all points. :p

1. I'm aware of the scaling, I create the pieces on a separate document and then rescale and adjust according to that. It keeps my work organized and I can use references in 3DS Max to make sure proportions on the item itself are done fine.

2. I don't think I've said the stock there is official.. so no idea about this one.

3. Yep! I've corrected it since the last picture, pretty much straight after I uploaded it but my application failed to upload images, so I left the old one on.

4. Indeed they are, I'm planning on making the Magpul Angled Foregrip (but that's for a different..something), or just the one you see on the MX-variants on ARMA 3 at the moment. I've been looking into the whole proxy thing, and I don't think foregrips are modular.

5.The suppressor is made by Astast, it's awesome. I just threw it on because we wanted to see what it would look like on a rifle. Yet again, suppressors would be modular and I'm working on a little something with others.

You didn't sound like an arsehole, I appreciate the feedback and I've noted some points down for further work. Thanks! Just like to point out that this is just a little speck of dust in the current works we have going on. ;)

For the scaling issues I made this mock up to help with the scaling. Granted this is a civilian Block 2 Clone so the parts are not 100% from the block 2 kit but the sizing is a good reference.

You can see the scaling issue with the rail pretty well here as well as the issue with the magazines position, size, and cant.

Hope that helps!
