Digital Maps?

Recommended Posts

I bought the standard Arma 3. I notice the digital deluxe version says it has digital maps. Could that be any more unclear? What does that mean? What exactly will I be missing and will I be able to buy the missing things separately?

I am used to when people say "maps" that they mean the actual things we play on. I guess they really mean maps aka navigational. I was worrying I would have to go buying a new island for the game or something. It wouldn't hurt to actually give details.

Yeah I had images of more details maps, aka islands (what I have always known as maps are the area you play on).

I don't understand how they can make it any clearer. Map is a map. Island is an island. (Digital) Map is of the island(s) which will come in .pdf standard.

Digital Maps* – Plan your combat operations with the highly detailed maps of Altis and Stratis. (REAL)

Digital Maps* – Play your combat operations with the highly detailed islands of Altis and Stratis. (FAKE)

See the difference? :)

Yes, now, but what I am saying is that in every other game aside from Armor has called the levels/area of play maps. They have always been called maps. So that is what first comes to my mind when I hear map with regards to gaming. I like this map, I downloaded a map pack, this expansion comes with 4 new maps..

Games like Battlefield and CoD call them maps yes, mostly because you can't call a controlled area an island. (levels/area of play maps).

They have always been called maps.

Not in the ArmA series, since the beginning the locations have been called "Islands", even in A2 where it wasn't islands at all.

Right, every game I have played has called them maps. COD series, Battlefield series, Half life, Counter Strike, Shattered Horizon, Soldier of Fortune series etc. Now you know why I was worried about potentially missing some "maps".

lol. I have played all the Armor series, although I still think of these islands as maps because I have been calling such a thing maps since the beginning of time lol.

I guess its like whether and weather. Based on the context I know what someone is saying when they say "bring the map up" vs "what map are we on". I have said "Map" more times in this thread than I have in the past 6 months I think lol.. Might as well put a quick NLP mention of "The map is not the territory" lol. (don't ask).

Either way this whole thing is cleared up, nothing to worry about.

it doesn't matter if you call it a map or island OP. for the ultimate verification

Altis and Stratis are the stock maps.

Its not your confusion of them being "maps". It's your lack of ability to put the word "maps" with the sentence and contexts in witch it was put.

These things can happen when you're dealing with users from all over the globe, with dozens of first languages that aren't English. I don't know if that's the case with morthawt, but it's a good idea to cut people some slack on forums with international users.
