Lgb bombs...

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

Ok, I got me a new question about laser designators/LGB bombs; How do I aim the LGB bomb onto a target? I made me a simple mission, with an AI Black-Ops with Laser Designator, me as player in the A-10 LGB, and some empty trucks and stuff..Now ,when I let the AI aim with the laser, and I lock onto to targeted truck, when do I have to release the bombs? has anyone found out? I have been trying for over 2 hours, and didnt had a single hit ,lol... I have been playing Falcon 4.0 for quite a while , and in the game were also GBU/LGB bombs, but they were much easier to handle, because of the guiding system. Now I know that Flashpoint isn't a complex flightsim as Falcon is, but I think the A-10 needs some guide of guiding system that tells u when to release the bomb, since GBU's are freefall bombs and not powered...I have used the search engine, and checked Avonlady's site with info about bombing, no succes though.

Thx

P.S.

I also found out that during testing, I saw that the AI doesnt always follows order, becuase sometimes he just won't use the Laser Designator, although it hangs on his back...and another thing, the times he does listen, why doesnt the soldier use the tripod when aiming with the Designator? When he aims with the laser, he holds it like a Law or RPG rocket on his shoulder.I tested this in Resistance, so mabye a new bug?

After the target is designated, press Tab so that your onboard system will lock on it. Wait util cursor will indicate in-range status (double diamond) and release.

This is how laser designator is implemented in OFP - you use it the same way. Using tripod seemed to be too complicated.

Yeah, but the thing is....I can't get the AI to designate targets. Even when I order them to use the LTD. Oh well, I didn't know about the Tab thing. Gonna go test it in editor.

be pretty cool if we could set it up as tripod so we could target sumwhere and leave it.

Yup, I found out the same; I tried it in the editor too, but the AI won't take the LTD when u order him too... He just keeps the weapon in his hands...all the other commands seem to work, like ordering to drop the HK or his binos, but he won't use the LTD sad.gif

Have you tried the UnitName DoTarget TargetName with a UnitName DoFire TargetName. Works for me, LBG is alot more accurate when you make your bombing run from the same direction the AI is painting from....ie soldier with designator is painting target from the north, make your run from the north.

No need for extra commands. Tell the AI to target whatever you want targeted. Then tell them to Fire. Target the laser and bombs away. No need for extra commands.

Thas exactly what I did; no scripts or anything, just ordering the AI Black-Ops to aim the LTD, but he just won't do it.. He just keeps his HK armed , and the LTD on his back..

Harnu you cant get a AI soldier to fire the LTD that way. He will sit there wondering just how many licks with his M16 it will take to get to the center of that tootsie pop.

The only way I have made it work is with DoFire and DoTarget. Im sure someone could go and make a 72Kb script that will give the same results but that is to much work when 2 commands do the same.

I haven't got any experience with mission-editing, but isn't it a bit weird that u need to add commands in the editor first to the AI soldier , to get the LTD to work properly ? It sounds to me more like a bug , because why can he pick/drop his HK , or drop or use his binoculars, but why can't he just weapon the LTD he is carrying on his back??

Dont add the commands above to the soldier, add them to a couple waypoints attached to the soldier. And I am thinking that it will only work like that because of the way it was coded into the game, maybe Suma can elaborate a little further.

For me it seems they start using the LTD when you just place them next to a target. (they will target all targets they normally would engage with a LAW)

That is exactly how it should be - and in my test it behaves this way.

Some notes:

AI will automatically paint only active enemy tanks, not empty enemy tanks. To force it to paint empty tank you can use "Target" ingame command or you can include it in the mission design - you can use doTarget/doFire combination or you can use waypoint Destroy for the soldier.

Yes, this is correct. This explanation is:

Plane systems must be able to see the laser dot to lock onto it. If there is any obstacle between the dot and the plane (including the target itselft), it cannot be detected and it cannot be locked.

problem is he wont target it for long hell point at it for a wee bit then move and do it again and the laser seems to woolbe in their hands so it sumtimes gose off the target. Alot of the time i would be locked on in my a10 all lined up only to have laser dissapear cause hes going for a walk.

That's what I tried to do; letting the AI aim at an empty enemy tank, but when ordering him too, he won't take the LTD from his back, he just stands there, doing nothing.

Isnt Suma the greatest....

I just tried the "Destroy" waypoint way, works good but the AI soldier dosent really keep the target painted all the time. I wish I would have known that earlier, alittle easier that way.

I just went back an did it again. Same results. The most you sohuld have to do is select actions and have him take out his LTD. Then he aims, you can order him to fire. I can then lock it and blow it to bits.

Well, for me that simply just doesn't work...I tried it a million times now, but with no success. As I already said before, when I order my AI Black-Ops teammate to take his LTD ,(Action) then he just keeps standing with the HK still in his hands. When I again press the Action menu, I also see the Option "arm HK" or something like that, so u would say he got his LTD weaponed but he aint...I have this all tested in Resistance new island, and on an empty vehicle... As Suma already mentioned it works fine on an enemy vehicle this has soldiers in it, but on the emtpy ones, it just won't work, for me at least...

Do not use Action menu, use Target menu instead. Black Op knows he has to use Laser Designators on armored targets.

Ok, I tried that just now (again) , but sorry to say, still no succes .It works fine when I let the AI target an enemy vehicle wich isn't empty (via the Target menu), but on the empty ones it just doesn't work sad.gif I tried it via both menu's now (Target & Action ) .Also, after I gave the AI the command "Target Shilka at 8 o'clock" he didnt replied with " Roger " via the radio, but just keeps looking at the Shilka..When that didn't worked , I tried it via the "Action" menu again, but the option #6 "Weapon LTD "or something like that wasn't there anymore...

For this test I used the Black-Ops Laser guy , so I didnt add a LTD to any of the other Black-Ops. Just to let u know I didn't something wrong .I didnt saved the mission either, I just putted some object in the map and tested all via preview, dunno if this makes any difference..And I didn't put any commands in the init field of the AI either. Hope my explanation helps a bit, lol smile.gif

Go into your mission editor. And do exactly this:

1. Place you as an A10LGB. Set yourself to Flying. (For simplicity)

2. Place an AI Black Ops (LASER) into your command and near your target. Set him to flying as well to make him start near the tank.

3. Place an empty tank. I'll just refer to it as an M1A1, although you can choose any you want.

4. Press "Preview"

5. While flying select your Black Op. Select target. Press "0" until you find the M1A1 Abrams. Select whatever number it corresponds with.

6. After that, select your black op, and press (default) F2-3-3. That orders him to fire.

7. Fly around for a few moments. Autotarget by pressing (default) Tab.

8. You will have the target targeted by now. As soon as you have that, distance yourself by 1km+. Double back and head right for the tank. Be sure you stay above 100 altitude.

9. Once you get a lock, fire away.

10. Wait for the bombs to hit the target, and waaalaaa. Target down!

That's the procedure I follow. And I did this on Everon.
